Holiday giant Thomson signed in new deal
11 Apr 2002 10:41
We have signed a multi-million pound contract with Britain?s leading holiday company, Thomson (BECAUSE GOD KNOWS WE AREN?T GOING TO EUROPE ON BUSINESS ANYTIME SOON).
The two-year agreement will begin from July 2002, and will see the company as the football club?s major sponsor, with its new re-branded ‘smile’ logo featured on the club?s shirts (POSSIBLY THE ONLY SMILE THAT WILL BE SEEN AT WHITE HART LANE OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS).
This is the first time a holiday company has sponsored a Premiership football team. With more women and children watching football than ever before, Thomson sees the move as an opportunity to establish its new brand identity to a core family market (AND BY ALIGNING WITH SPURS THEY?VE CORNERED THE MARKET ON FAMILIES THAT ARE TOO DUMB TO KNOW ANY BETTER IF THEY?RE GIVING A CRUMMY DEAL ON A TOUR).
Daniel Levy, chairman, Tottenham Hotspur, commented: “”This deal is very significant for Tottenham Hotspur. It is one that will benefit the club, Thomson and, importantly, our fans (AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IT WILL BENEFIT MR. LEVY WHO WILL NO DOUBT BE GETTING FREE VACATIONS).
“”The new deal will not only mean a strong financial investment into the club, but also exclusive offers for Tottenham fans from Thomson’s vast range of holidays. I look forward to a very successful relationship with Thomson (BECAUSE GOD KNOWS HE?S NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO A SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS PLAYERS).”"
Chris Mottershead, managing director, TUI UK, said: “”With more women and children watching and playing football (MOSTLY FOR SPURS FIRST XI), our own research shows that it?s a sport close to the hearts of our customers.
“”Nearly every family in Britain has at least one mad-keen (I THOUGHT THEY HAVE CLEANED UP THAT PROBLEM WITH THE COWS OVER THERE?) football supporter in it and, as the fastest growing sport for women and girls, we believe this offers a real opportunity.
“”We?ve been considering various sponsorship opportunities as part of our marketing strategy for some time and, given the vast media audience, we believe Premiership football is a perfect opportunity to establish our new brand identity alongside one of the most prestigious brands in football (APPARENTLY THEIR NEW BRAND IDENTITY IS TO BE A SECOND-RATE OPERATION THAT CAN?T WIN ANYTHING). ?
He added: ?This deal is more than just a logo on shirts (THEY?RE BRANDING THEIR UNDERWEAR TOO) and we?ll see a variety of collaborative activities between the company and the club. Tottenham Hotspur is a glamorous and fashionable club (HAS THIS GUY WATCHED A FOOTBALL MATCH IN THE LAST 40 YEARS?) with an impressive new management team and we?ll be looking to maximise the partnership over the next two years (BY MAXIMISE DOES HE MEAN GET THROUGH THE TWO YEARS WITHOUT DOING PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE THOMSON BRAND?).?
The Tottenham Hotspur partnership will broaden the reach of Thomson’s marketing with a wide range of activities planned for Thomson customers, staff and industry partners (WE UNDERSTAND THEIR FIRST PROMOTION IS A FREE SPURS TICKET WHEN YOU BOOK A TOUR. HOWEVER THE PENALTY FOR CANCELLING IS TWO SPURS TICKETS).
