Happy Anniversary Tottenham!

Member Lawrence Emanuel notes that today’s an important day for our friends at White Hart Lane…
Today is the 41st anniversary of Spurs’ failure to win the league. It was on this very date back in 1961 when our ‘illustrious’ (excuse me while I hold back the laughter) neighbours from the other end of the Seven Sisters Road last won the league…in the days of black and white television. Poor Tottenham…they think they are a big club yet always struggle to finish halfway in the table.

Spurs sign (yawn) Jamie Redknapp (zzzzzz)
April 17, 2002 | Leave a Comment
“Look out everybody, Spurs have got Jamie Redknapp! My comments in ALL CAPS:
Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle considers he has saved the club a fortune by signing midfielder Jamie Redknapp on a free transfer from Liverpool (OF COURSE, WITH ALL THE MEDICAL BILLS THEY’LL PROBABLY JUST BREAK EVEN).
“”In today’s market you are talking ?6 or ?7 million because he can pass the ball and he can play (ASSUMING CENTER HOSPITAL BED IS A POSITION, YEAH, HE CAN PLAY),”" he said.
“”Let’s see what happens in 12 months (IN 12 MONTHS HE’LL PROBABLY BE OUT OF FOOTBALL) – he could be the steal of the decade.”" (I CAN THINK OF ABOUT HALF A DOZEN ARSENAL PLAYERS WHO I WOULD RANK ABOVE REDKNAPP ON THE ‘STEAL OF THE DECADE SCALE’. A FORMER SPURS CAPTAIN WE SIGNED ON A FREE COMES TO MIND).
Redknapp signed a four-year deal with Spurs on Tuesday after more than a decade at Anfield (WHERE HE DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF BY SITTING ON THE BENCH AS THEY WON TROPHIES), and Hoddle is convinced that the former England international’s passing game will be perfectly suited to Spurs style of play (I DIDN’T REALIZE ‘PISS POOR’ WAS CONSIDERED A STYLE OF PLAY).
“”He’s a Spurs player, a player in the style and traditions of the club and I’m sure the fans will enjoy watching him (COLLECT A PAYCHECK WHILE SITTING IN THE STANDS, INJURED),”" Hoddle said.
“”We’re absolutely delighted to have him on board. He’s a class player, one I had in the England squad when I was manager (AND I THINK WE ALL REMEMBER HOW WELL THAT TURNED OUT), an excellent professional and he’s joined us on a free transfer (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR SOMETIMES).
“”I’m sure Spurs fans out there (BOTH OF THEM), within four months of next season when he’s settled and playing, they’ll be saying he’s one of the best signings the club has made – especially on a free transfer (AND DOESN’T’ THAT SAY VOLUMES ABOUT SOME OF THE SIGNINGS THEY’VE MADE).
The 28-year-old Liverpool club captain, who was out of contract at the end of the season, has been plagued by injury in recent years, but Hoddle is confident Redknapp has now overcome them. (SO LIVERPOOL, A GOOD SQUAD, LET THEIR CAPTAIN GO ON A FREE. I’M GUESSING THEY KNOW SOMETHING THAT SPURS DON’T – LIKE HE’S WORTHLESS.)
“”He’s had a few injuries (A FEW?) and we had to be aware and monitor that,”" Hoddle told the club’s official website. “”I’m confident he’s over them. (A HISTORY OF INJURIES MAGICALLY DISAPPEARS? IS HODDLE BRINGING EILEEN DREWERY BACK?)
“”In many ways, I was asked the same questions about Darren [Anderton] and Les [Ferdinand] at the start of this season and I think Les has had his best season since he’s been here and Darren the same, he’s almost got himself into the World Cup squad. (AND LOOK HOW FAR LES AND DARREN HAVE TAKEN SPURS THIS YEAR!)
“”There are similar things that we will be working on with Jamie (LIKE LEARNING TO LIVE WITH DEFEAT) and we’ve already spoken about them.”"
Redknapp, meanwhile, is convinced he is over the worst after passing a medical on Tuesday. (JAMIE, THE WORST IS YET TO COME, YOU PLAY FOR SPURS NOW)
“”I’ve had a thorough medical and passed it which was a very good sign. I’m positive about things (IGNORANCE IS BLISS) – I’ve had injuries but I’m fit now and I want to come and do a good job for Tottenham,”" he told clubcall.
Meanwhile, Steffen Freund reckons the arrival of Redknapp proves the club can attract big names. (YEAH, ZIDANE, FIGO, RONALDO, REDKNAPP, I HEAR THAT ALL THE TIME)
“”It is the same as Gus Poyet said recently, with a manager like Glenn Hoddle (NUTJOB) and a club like Tottenham Hotspur (SECOND-RATERS), the name, the tradition, it is always an attracttive prospect for any player (WHO DOESN’T CARE ABOUT PLAYING FOR A TROPHY),”" said the German. “”I believe, with all that, we can sign anyone (THAT ISN’T WANTED BY A REAL CLUB) and Jamie Redknapp helps prove that (EXACTLY).”"
