“Kits, Bhoys and Big Tone “

“What would a week be around here without a missive from the EINY:

I for one couldn’t agree more with Lawrence Emmanuel’s take on the new kit. Just mentioning the old “”Wimbledon tennis boys”" kit jogs the memory as well as those insipid blue things in the early ’90′s also. But this new kit has to take the cake! The home kit looks like a red version of Ajax’ home shirt and the away one well I can’t even fathom if the club was trying to show Ken Bates what a blue kit should look like or what. Then of course the cherry on the cake- the “”Bob the Builder Lego Crest”". Not one word has been issued by the club after many fans voiced their disgust with the new crest but there on the new kits you can see it being used to hock merchandise. Well if the fans aren’t being considered then there’s one way to really make a point just like in the early ’90′s- DON’T BUY IT!!!! Then maybe the fan’s voice will be heard. And yet this season’s gold away jersey (it’s actually grown a bit on me I must admit) will now be considered a 3rd option durinmg European matches. So I guess we just take away the “”SEGA”" and pu an 02 there and we have next season’s 3rd shirt, right? Go figure. And I for one have had a few manc mates take the proverbial mickey out of me on the new kits but I’ll just take it all in until Nike unveils their new kit this summer as United will be in the Nike fold after this season too and have the last laugh on them!;)

The question was asked about follwing other leagues and I do pay a little attention to what’s going on around, but for me I must admit I have an allegiance to the Bhoys who play up in Scotland at “”Paradise”" (Parkhead Stadium)-Celtic! And they’ve just retainedtheir league title and face the dreaded enemy Rangers (the huns) on May 4th in an Old Firm cup final so hopefully my 2 teams will win their respective cup finals on this day. And if there’s some Rangers supporters in Arsenal America reading this I say “”expletive off huns!”" ;)

To end this on a more serene note, I’d like to take the time to recognise probably the MOST influential player at Arsenal who will be calling it a career at the end of this season-Tony Adams. Words can’t really express all that I have to say about “”Mr. Arsenal”" (but I think that just said it) but I’ll just say “”thanks for EVERYTHING”" you’ve contributed to the Arsenal in your past 19 years at Highbury and may you have the perfect end to your career in May.

Oh! Did anyone hear that the bloo-scum have already planned an open-air bus parade after the cup final? I hope it rains and they LOSE! Bloody cheeky muppets…

It’s Arsenal or nothing for one member

“Rick Liebling’s recent editorial about enjoying football beyond Arsenal elicited this response from Philly area Gooner, Yvonne Teh:

For me, it’s pretty much Arsenal or nothing. I mean, even when I do watch other (Premier League, international, etc.) matches, I end up feeling support for a team that contains current or ex-Arsenal players, disliking those teams that pose a threat to Arsenal (notably, in recent seasons, Manchester United) and/or thinking like an Arsenal scout in terms of which players would be great in an Arsenal shirt.

Iron Balls Honourable Mentions

“Though Freddie was the star of the show, three other players deserve mention for individual efforts last night:

Ashley Cole: Rather than just watch Kanoute’s shot roll to the back of the net, Ashley made a play to clear it off the line. Did the ball cross the line? Yes it did. But Cole’s hustle earned us a break. When you play all out, you end up making some breaks.

Dennis Bergkamp: Not his best game, but sometimes with Dennis, 90 minutes on the pitch may produce just one moment of brilliance. That’s what happened yesterday as he slotted a pass through about four defenders to spring Ljungberg for the goal. Freddie doesn’t get that goal without the pass.

Kanu: From cult hero to goat. It would be easy for Kanu to pout or mail in the end of the season (as Petit and Overmars did some years back). But he’s stayed positive and last night he got himself in position and banged home a terrific goal. Yes, we’ve all been disappointed in his performances this year, but you have to be happy for the big Nigerian to finally grab a goal.”
