“This from the UK’s The Guardian…

Everton’s summer-long search for a goalkeeper should be resolved tomorrow when the Arsenal reserve Richard Wright is expected to sign for ?4.75m.

Wright, 24 and with two England caps to his name, met the manager David Moyes yesterday and is willing to move on after seeing his path blocked for club and country by the 38-year-old David Seaman, who last week agreed to spend another season at Highbury.

Derby last week turned down Moyes’ final offer of ?4.5m for Mart Poom and, with Rustu Recber opting to stay with Fenerbahce, Everton...

“Seaman signs new Arsenal deal

David Seaman has signed a one-year extension to his Arsenal contract. The new deal will keep the 38-year-old England goalkeeper at Highbury until summer 2003.

“Arsenal’s Pires confident of early return to action

Pires, who was voted Footballer of the Year last season by the Football Writers Association, suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in March and was originally ruled out until the end of October.

“”It has all gone very well and I could not be happier,”" the 29-year-old France international told Wednesday’s Evening Standard paper.

Pires had surgery in May and has been recuperating at a sports injury clinic in the south of France.

“”The treatment I have been getting is first-class...

“Sorry, no Kentucky Gunner preview for this one. Sure it’s just a pre-season match, and the first one at that, but you’re getting excited aren’t you? The World Cup was fun, but now we are really getting to the business. From now until May 2003 we are in store for around 60 games. I honestly don’t have a feel for how things will come out, and I’m going to save my official season preview until around the time of the Community Shield match.

I do have some hopes though. I hope to see some more Youth Team members make the leap. More to the point, I hope some...

“Time to get back into the swing of things isn’t it? Arsenal’s got a pre-season game this week, we’ve signed a new player (Pascal Cygan) and brought back Keown and Seaman. It looks like Tony Adams is going to call it quits and we’ve still got enough players laid up to start a spin-off of ER.

Pretty soon we can look forward to more game previews from scout extraordinaire, The Kentucky Gunner; match reports from Kali Korbis and plenty of thoughts from the EINY. Other features such as Schadenfreude of the Week, the Unmitigated Crap Index, Brass Monkey and Iron...
