“Attention East Coast Arsenal America members:
As many of you know, Ajax (one of our 2nd Group Stage opponents) has a terrific US supporters’ club called Ajax USA. A fun group of guys and in many ways an inspiration for Arsenal America.
In speaking with them we thought it was a great time to re-introduce the idea of the Bergkamp Cup. What’s that you ask? An indoor soccer match between Arsenal America and Ajax USA. With the two teams playing each other in the span of a week next February we thought it would be fun for the two supporters’ clubs to get together.
With God (DB10) having played for both teams it seemed fitting that the tournament be named in his honour. I suppose the MVP could get the Overmars Trophy!
So, all you Gooners in the New York (or Philly, or New Jersey, etc.) area, what do you say? We’d be looking to hold the event either at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan or at a place in New Jersey called the RexPlex (exit 13ish off the Turnpike). I would prefer the RexPlex as it will be cheaper, larger, a better field and would be easier for any folks from Philly who might want to come up. The (very) tentative date would be the weekend of February 22/23 as that falls between the two games between these teams.
We’d probably want about a dozen players, but everyone would be welcome and we could all hit a pub afterwards.
Please contact me with your level of interest.
