The Second Annual ArsenalAmerica Roadtrip to Highbury is on the calendar!
I’ve just returned from a meeting with Arsenal and have been given permission to plan our second annual roadtrip to Highbury. The dates and games are as follows:
Wednesday, December 10 — Arsenal v. Locomotive Moscow
Sunday, December 14 — Arsenal v. Blackburn.
This could be our most important UEFA Champions League game of the season (or entirely meaningless). In addition, it will give us a chance to watch US International Brad Friedel in action at Highbury as he is Blackburn’s current #1 keeper.
There are also many side benefits to this trip, including:
* a private tour of Highbury.
* opportunity to see Arsenal Reservers play West Ham on Monday, December 15
* opportunity to see anyone of FIVE other London matches on Saturday, December 13 (or travel to any other team in England for a game), including:
– Chelsea v. Bolton (EPL)
– West Ham v. Sunderland (Div. 1)
– Crystal Palace v. Nott. Forest (Div. 1)
– Millwall v. Ipswich (Div. 1)
– QPR v. Hatlepool (Div. 2)
* a side trip to Cambridge if anyone wants a tour (one hour train).
Now for the best part–IT’S REALLY CHEAP TO GET TO LONDON ON THESE DATES!
BA.com and other are having a sale (ends October 2) with prices like this available:
$200 + taxes from JFK
$266 + taxes from Washington
There are also tons of cheap hotels from
BA.com and from
Lastminute.com
London at Christmas time is a blast. We’ll walk Regent and Oxford Street (all lit up for the holidays) and you can tell your spouse you’re there for the shopping. With Wednesday’s game starting at 7:00, you can “redeye” in on Wed. morning (saving a night in a hotel and a day off of work). Basically, you’ll need to take off W-R-F and probably M.
You have less than two weeks to get back to me with a go/no-go decision (sorry, it’s the tickets that are the problem–we have to give nine weeks notice).
If you want to go, please send an e-mail to andrew@arsenalamerica.com and cc’ to rick@arsenalamerica.com. We’ll get the list together and move on with formal details shortly (like ticket price, procedures, etc). Right now we need a head count.
