Ok, if I understand correctly, Patrick Kluivert can be had for a song (1.5 mil). I’m sure his personal terms are quite high though.
Now, in the interest of full disclosure I’ll say that he is one of my top 3 favorite players so I’m biased, but I think we should try to nab this guy. He’s a different player than Henry and we desperately need a proven goal-scorer to partner with Titi.
Thoughts?

I agree with you 100%.. Denis is not flying which is somehow understandable but dont shot me cause Wiltord is Sh..!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He signs or leaves as simple as that.
I cant see us going further in the Camp. League so we have to focused on the Pre. League after the tough run and beat teams like Charton, Leeds etc or our season will end before it starts..Remember last Season…
Peace

I’d take Pat in a second. Although I’m not convinced that his form hasn’t declined substantially, for 1.5 I would give Henry the partner that he’s in dire need of. Kluivert’s only 27, I’m sure he’s got some good years left.

Kluivert is outstanding, despite some rumoured personality problems which could upset the chemistry. Still he’s worth taking a chance on for sure and tactics-wise he’s be the “fox” that Titi talks about. But his asking price hasn’t gone up since the summer and Arsenal didn’t look like they could afford him then, so I’m not sure what could have changed. Boy would it perk the team and the fans.
Is the rule still in place that allows CL “flops” to enter the Uefa Cup? If so, that could entice him should we fail to qualify for the CL second stage.

He may have the talent, but he also comes along with baggage, and I think he could be major trouble in the dressing room and disrupt the marvellous team spirit Arsenal possess right now. Remember this is a person who split the black players away from the white players in the Dutch team at the 1998 World Cup in France. I vividly remember watching him and Van der Sar coming to blows with one another when VDS wanted to join in the end of match celebrations amongst the Dutch black players after one game in that tournament. Also PK has a criminal record for a hit and run accident a few years ago. Add this to the fact that if he isn’t picked for the first team, he’ll slag the club off in thr papers. Do we really need that??? I don’t think so. I’d rather give one of our promising youngesters like David Bentley a chance than have the possibilty of a prima donna ruin what the club has achieved in the last seven years under AW!

I’ve always thought Patrick would be a good fit for Arsenal.
It would be a risk no doubt, but I think PK understands that certain things won’t fly at Highbury (either that or he would have to be made to understand).
I suppose it’s a wait and see what happens scenario…

I certainly wouldn’t be against him playing for us…
but apparently his weekly wage is VERY high…
and he definitely has alot of baggage… not sure if Arsene would want to sort thru it…
I’d like to see Kanu get some REAL playing time…
not 15 minutes every 5th match…
and I think Wiltord is a solid team player…
but hey thats just me…
I actually LIKE our CURRENT team alot… and I don’t feel we really need any “major” shake-ups…
we could use a BIG TIME solid defender… that would go a long way to solidifying the back and giving us much needed depth there…
with KOLO becoming the man… it helps alot…
and…
we haven’t had Patrick Viera throughout the year, because of injuries and suspension…. he dominates the midfield in the league and abroad…
yet…
we are undefeated in the league… and top…
I don’t see major changes …
I’d like to see Pennant come back and get playing time… and a defender…
as opposed to a HIGH PRICED Kluivert (wages are high… not the transfer fee)…
but if HE is the ONLY move we make…
then I would not be against it…
the CL is a goat-F*** for us… always is… and I don’t know why…

I HATE Kluivert! If only for the torment of the Brazil-Netherland’s game in France ‘98! He missed about 10 sitters at the end of the game to finish off Brazil before the dreaded penalty kicks…
Add that to the fact that he killed someone with his car and has never faced up to the responsibilities of that situation.
Cancerous bastard that should be taken out back and beaten with a lead pipe!

While Kluivert has proven to be a less than saintly figure, I think he’s matured a bit. His time at Barca has been humbling, but he accepted a huge wage cut to stay and has kept his complaining to a minimum. And let’s be honest, Spain is probably (besides Italy of couse) the worst place for black players to play. When they’re not on tip top form, they really get it from the home fans, and they always get it from the opposing fans. Cosmopolitan Arsenal and north London would be a welcome change from the Nou Camp. Team poltics at Arsenal are kept to a minimum, and he would be accepted with open arms. While I would rather us bring in a powerhouse like Olisadebe, Kluivert’s is a tall, skillful, creative player who is also pretty good in the air. Plus we don’t even need to pay for him. I say just give them Gio and call it even. He’s still world class, he just needs a little support from Arsene to get his game back on track. Best case scenario–strikes up great partnership w/Henry and re-kindles career. Worst case scenario–1.5 down the tubes. I think the opportunity for success vastly outweighs the downsides. Let’s do it!!

Yeah — whatever happened to needing to bolster our defense??
I mean, yeah, great, Patrick Kluivert sis boom bah, but we need defenders that are worth as much of a damn as well.
