This may be the shortest Preview on record. Why? Well, honestly, there’s very little to say about Spurs. Problem is I swore that I would try to keep from making fun of Spurs and leave that to Rick and his ” Comments in CAPS.” If I refrain from poking fun then it leaves little to say. Tottenham is a bad team. Sloppy, uninspired and rotting from within. They come off a truly uninspired loss to Bolton in which Bolton got their first win at White Hart Lane in 44 years. They opened the season with one of the worst starts in club history. To beat all they find salvation in a caretaker boss.
I truly didn’t see this coming. Spurs bought several good and proven players. Hoddle seemed to be in control and had the lads ready for the season. The season started 1-1-4 and Hoddle was gone. Platt took over as manager and things “turned around.” Two wins and two draws and the club is afire. Then they lose to Bolton and play some of the worst football of the season. What people failed to realize was that Spurs had not improved but the teams they were playing were underachieving. Now they face the toughest contest of the year and it’s the North London Derby!
The biggest problem, coming into the season, was the Spurs midfield. Most would agree that it was a weak point last year and had gone little improved. Poyet was the difference but he has had little influence. Freddie has now thrown down the guantlet and stated he will start scoring. If I were a Spurs fan I’d be worried as Freddie was going to have free reign anyways, but now is looking to victimize Spurs.
The defense was, maybe, the strongest point of Spurs. Keller is capable in goal and the back four were aggressive enough. Ziege is injured and this will be a major blow to the squad.
Kanoute was one of the valuable off season picks that Spurs secured and he has come through for them. Postiga, the 6-million pound man, was quite the scorer in Portugal and in the off-season. Somehow he has been relegated to the bench. Keane has gotten a number of starts, but much like his other assignments, he doesnt score very often.
Spurs are in 12th place but only a point or two from swimming with the fishies. I have only seen them play once, a 3-0 win over Everton. Despite the win and 3 goals, they were less than convincing. Spurs has lost a manager and several in the top offices. What’s it they say about a ship going down…..the rats always jump ship first before the whole boat drops into the sea?
ArseAm predicts: Arsenal should beat these punks like a red-headed step child. The gulf in class between these two sides is massive. 3-1 to the Arsenal.
