Best wishes to all the Gooners out there. Hey, if you are in the New York City area, I’m planning on coming out of the secret ArseAm headquarters to make a rare public appearance.
I’m planning on hitting Nevada Smith’s on Sunday. It’s possible (fingers crossed) that I’ll have the ArseAm banner with me! Also, I’m planning on bringing some terrific 2004 Arsenal FC Calendars, courtesy of the awesome folks at Danilo. Go check them out.
Also, I have a copy of...

It seems that during the summer a lot of people were pleading for us to get a new defender. I preached patience and said that a renewed TEAM effort would help and that Cygan would settle in. I think for the most part I have been proven right. However, I must say that even I did acknowledge that the defense would be a danger area.
At the halfway point however it has turned out to be a strong point. We have six clean sheets in our last nine games and have allowed the fewest goals in the Premiership.

Just checking out some stats. We have 45 points at the halfway point. On pace for 90 points, the most in Arsenal history I believe. We had 87 in 01/02.
Here are are recent totals:
93/94 - 71
94/95 - 51 - ugh.
95/96 - 63
96/97 - 68 - heading in the right direction.
97/98 - 78 - Bonjour, Mssr. Wenger
98/99 - 78
99/00 - 73
00/01 - 70
01/02 - 87
02/03 - 78
Unbelievably, we may need all 90 to take the title, or more.

All the papers are reporting about the “wild outburst of rage” exhibited by Lehmann at the end of the match. He threw the ball at Kevin Phillips, big deal. How about Phillips who, after being cautioned, stamped on Lehmann’s foot. No, no mention of that.

I don’t think we’ve ever had as many comments on any posting as the Spurs one below. 35 at last count.
Personally, I really don’t care about Spurs. It’s a no-win for us, so they can go down for all I care.

Ed. note - Another solid entry here by the Afrikan-Gooner. He makes some very solid points and his line to start paragraph four made me laugh out loud…
I always try to come home early to watch Arsenal?s midweek games. Watching Arsenal play is a privilege and I say this not just because I?m a Gooner. It?s like watching poetry in motion, like they?re soccer?s equivalent of the X-Men, with the players are connected by a telepathic thread.
Arsenal vs. Southampton was a good game, but I really think Henry needs a striking partner. I took some heat the last time I called Bergkamp...

I know it’s still early, but, following a 0-1 home loss to Charlton today, Sp*rs are officially in the drop zone. I’m a bit torn about this, as, while it would be tremendously funny to see them get relegated, I’d miss the North London Derby, even if it is just next year’s two meetings. Any other thoughts?

Great story in Monday’s Sun:
ROBBIE KEANE clashed with angry fans as Spurs plunged into the bottom three.
As Keane was leaving White Hart Lane in his car, he stopped to sign autographs ? and was rounded on by a mob of disgruntled supporters.
They tore into the ?7million Republic of Ireland striker, asking him why Tottenham are in the mess they are in and what he was going to do about getting them out of the relegation zone.
Keane, 23, snapped: ?What?s your problem?? before speeding off. But the group stayed on to chant protests at chairman Daniel Levy and caretaker...

While it certainly is a team effort, let’s give a round of applause to Jens Lehmann. In case you haven’t noticed, the Arsenal have allowed the fewest League goals in the EPL, and have six clean sheets in 18 games (1 in 3).
Gee, a relatively unknown foreigner comes to Arsenal — on the cheap — and performs really well, what are the chances? Oh, about 88%.
Arsene knows.

Thierry Henry grabs two as the Arsenal go top (for now) with a 3-nil win.
Charlton pull a smash and grab on Chelsea with a 4-2 win at the Valley.
Man United v. Everton later today.
