Jens Lehmann In Trouble The Defense Rests Its Case
Dec 30

Just checking out some stats. We have 45 points at the halfway point. On pace for 90 points, the most in Arsenal history I believe. We had 87 in 01/02.

Here are are recent totals:
93/94 - 71
94/95 - 51 - ugh.
95/96 - 63
96/97 - 68 - heading in the right direction.
97/98 - 78 - Bonjour, Mssr. Wenger
98/99 - 78
99/00 - 73
00/01 - 70
01/02 - 87
02/03 - 78

Unbelievably, we may need all 90 to take the title, or more.

    Hey Rick,
Like I always say….the title is won in May…..NOT DECEMBER or any other month in the football season. We’re only halfway through the season, and anything can happen between now and May. I definitely think that Chelsea will drop out of the race come February/March time. And as for the manure, I think they are more focussed on winning the Champions League (that’s if they are still in it should they decide to take the Riogate affair to court and piss off FIFA by doing so). As for us, I think we’ve passed our dodgy spell. Vieira is back and looking like the Vieira we all know and love. Henry looks like the complete player. Pires is getting back the form he had before the horrific injury he suffered a couple of years ago. Add Freddie, K-Lo, Sol, DB10, Cole, Ray and Lens to the mix and you have one lethal football machine.

This is my first post. First of all, we are stacking up too many draws. We may not have lost a match yet, but dropping that many points equal losses.

2nd of all, it is still very early. One of the big clubs could get a major injury(God, please not us).

Finally, Thank you Rick and all of the GREAT Arsenal supporters that I have chatted, posted, drink, cheered, and gotten to know. I knew I was a Gunner and I’m damn proud to be a part of the awesome force of supporters around the globe.
Happy New Year and Go Gunners!

The record is 92 points and I think it will take more than 92 points.
Man Utd are used to focusing on both PL and CL. They did both last year. The draws are killing us. I still think we’ll have to sacrifice the FA cup again this year. We got lucky last year.
Man Utd are on a 5 game run and with a big buy up front or at the back or both they’ll be tougher.
I think we’ll need a run of games like in ‘02. Maybe not 13 straight but definitely of the 19 games left, we need to win at least 16 of them. Maybe draw v. Chelsea and Man Utd and someone else.

personally, this feels like our year again- I think we will win the league if we don’t suffer any injuries. thats not arrogance- just common sense and the predictable nature of the league.

I don’t think ’sacrifcing’ the fa cup or any other cup will help us- more matches keeps you sharp, and we could be the first club ever to reach 4 straight fa cup finals, and the first club since blackburn to win a hat-trick of titles…

We did sacrifice the FA Cup last year when we didn’t start Henry, Bergkamp or Silva away at OT. Playing Wiltord and Jeffers up front at old trafford IS saying we are willing to sacrafice the cup. We got lucky and played a great game.
There are 57 points available for the 2nd half. Winning 15 of the 19 games is 45 points. 90 points total when added to our total now. Do you think Man Utd will not win 15 of their 19 games? They will and we’ll have to as well. I think we’ll need to win 16 or 17 probably.

I have to agree with you regarding the draws Catfish….those late goals we gave up against Bolton and Leicester absolutely killed us! But I know that we have in it us to go the distance this season…4 points in the fixtures against Chelsea and Man U would be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry nice as well!
