A couple of days ago I placed on here a post regarding the negativity that some Arsenal supporters feel right now after we dropped a couple of points at Everton the other day. Here are my rebuttals to those of you who answered my post…….

Rick…..I have to disagree with you on saying that being UNBEATEN in a season is meaningless! I don’t know how long you’ve been following Arsenal or English football in general, but there are not many sides who can go through over half a season and still remain UNBEATEN! In fact I remember the last time Arsenal made such a start. Back in 1990/91 we went 24 games UNBEATEN from winning 3-0 at Wimbledon on the opening day in August till losing 2-1 at Chelsea in February ‘91 (a game that we should’ve won). That was when we had unearthed a Swedish gem by the name of Anders Limpar who was the Robert Pires of the team at that time. Anyhow, we were second in the table behind Liverpool for much of that season….yet we went on to win the old first division title that year. A feat achieved by losing only 1 GAME all season. The only other time we lost that season was when those t0ssers from the FA deducted 2 points from us for the first Battle of Old Trafford. That Rick was an achievement!
You never see any American teams go UNBEATEN…be it NFL, NBA, NHL, baseball or MLS.
Even some of top soccer teams from around the world have failed to go through a season UNBEATEN!
At the end of the day Rick, you as a supporter of Arsenal Football Club should be proud that team are still the only UNBEATEN team in English football this season!

Geoff Wessel….I can understand frustration if we were 10 points behind United and drew with Everton, but the plain fact is that we’re only 3 POINTS behind = one victory behind the northern scum.
And like George Graham once said… it’s where you are in May that counts
And I’m pretty sure that United are going to drop points along the way between now and May!

American Gooner….you’re right mate. I don’t follow the NHL. I’d rather watch paint dry than watch that garbage.
How you can compare hockey which is just the WWF on ice to football is just beyond me.
At the end of the day, there is still 18 games left to play = 54 points. We’ll probably drop a few more points along the way…….but I bet you anything that both the Manure and Chelsea will also drop points as well.

PV4ever………..Some teams have one team that are their nemesis. In our case it’s been Everton away. A few years ago it was Wimbledon who was our bogey side. But United are the same….for some reason they can never beat Chelsea. Think they’ve only beaten them at OT 4 times in the last 30 years or so.
So at the end of the day, any team can beat any other team in the EPL….that’s what makes English football so great.

I think it’s great that we’re undefeated this season, and I’m not too worried (although I am quite frustrated) by all the draws so far. Remember last season - being a goal ahead and letting teams come back to draw the match was a big part of what lost us the championship. We certainly haven’t been doing that with the same kind of regularity this season, but it’s still something I think about.

Also, undefeated is an amazing accomplishment, but at the end of the day if you give me a choice between winning the premiership or going undefeated, there’s no question what I’d choose.

Fact is Arsenal are going to drop more points this season… and, as we saw today, so will Manure. But, with the mancs having to come to Highbury in a month and a half, I’d say being just one point adrift is a pretty good spot to be.

Plus, the Arsenal are the ONLY team in England that still has the chance to bag four trophies this year! I know some of the matches have been frustrating, but with a solid run we could see some SERIOUS history this year. Let’s kick back, try to relax, and enjoy the ride a bit, no?

I’d have to agree with both the comments before mine…. we are in a very solid position… now just ONE point back of United after their draw the Newcy’s…
Our fate is in our own hands… we have a match against ManU… at Highbury…

I believe being undefeated at this point in the season is simply AMAZING… it is a great accomplishment and testament to our fantastic team… it means ALOT to me…. and I am sure it means alot to the players and coaches… they surely would trade it for the title at years end, but it is nothing to sneeze at…

I think we should go for it a bit more… try a bit harder when its late … and we are tied… to go for the win. With all the fire-power we have, we should push forward a bit more and go for the win.

Arsene knows…. so can’t really question him, or anything we have done this season. Alive in 4 competitions. One point off the top.

and as a side note… the NHL is very entertaining.
the NHL playoffs are the best American sports has to offer, in my humble opinion. Being at an NHL game is 100 times better than watching it on TV.

Good Article and Good points but I dont think anyone in their right mind thinks the League is won in Dec/Jan but the last of the day against Leicester.

Emotions sometimes let people write stuffs without even thinking about it. And before people start writing silly points read what I said first.

We have about 18 games to go and all I hear is the Utd game. That is just one of 18 games to play.

Le Wenger is the Boss and he knows best but the feeling from the stands and people is to buy a striker and very soon… I mention on friday we need a striker before is too late…As well written in most of Sunday papers the sooner we get quality striker the better.

    Who do we have:
Henry the best is the business but cant play each game from now to the end. And what happen if we loss him for a week or two.. who next…

Aliadiere was the only hope but back to Gary Lewin’s table ..

Bentley, Papadopulos and Owusu-Abeyie are still waiting for their chance and these kids are good with more games.. Now what about the rest..

Hmmm. Kanu is not doing very well and now off to the Africa Nation Cup.

Dennis is one of my all time Gunner and very very good on this day but and big ? Mark

Wiltord is gone to the dogs and dont see him coming back simple. I can bet my season ticket on this.

The midfielders are doing very good and lift my hats off to Pires and Ljungbery but need someone in the box to pass the ball to apart from Henry.

People mention the ManUtd match because its HUGE!! it is worth 6 points! if we win / 3 pts. and United DROP 3… it is a crucial match… thats why it is often mentioned…
Yes… there are many other matches …
none as important as that one…

we just scored 4 goals… and you are moaning about the strikers???
we have 40 goals… now we have the MOST in the league… and you think its imperative we get a striker? WHO CARES what the papers say??
These are the same papers that called us a dirty team earlier in the year… with some wanting to deduct points from us after the 0-0 match at OT.
don’t care what they think we should do….

If ARSENE wants a new striker….. I am all for it….
if he doesn’t think we need one….. WE DON’T…
I believe he has the pulse of the team… and knows alot more about Arsenal that you/me/or the media…..

What has Kanu done wrong? not sure he has done anything except play well this year, when given the chance…

Wiltord….. has scored alot of big goals for us…
not counting him out yet either…

and why can’t Henry play all our matches???
is there a rule against that??? I am pretty sure if he is fit….. he will play ALL OF THE MATCHES…
thats part of what makes him the best…

Part of the reason we are successful, is that we are very much a TEAM…… not a group of individuals… virtually EVERYONE on the squad has contributed this season…. I don’t think there is any player you can point to and say……. he’s played badly… he’s gotta go…

DEEP TEAM….. ALOT OF YOUNG PLAYERS COMING… BEST COACH IN THE WORLD…
all adds up to a great current squad and a very bright future.

    I WOULDN’T CARE IF WE DIDN’T BUY ANYONE…
we’d still have a fantastic chance of winning in ALL 4 competitions…
we are the only undefeated team in any division in England….. and I am damned proud of it….

First of all I am very proud of the Arsenal this year. The bar was raised in terms of performance needed to compete for the title and we have met the challenge so far with almost the same XI as last year.
However, I guess no one got my NHL reference. Basically that too many draws have killed off some teams and it could do us in as well. Let me ask this what game took the title out of our hands and handed it to the Mancs last year? The loss v. Leeds or the DRAW BEFORE THAT AT BOLTON?

  9. stag133 Says:

    Obviously… drawing 2-2 at Bolton…
it made the Leeds match virtually irrelevant…
but there is nothing wrong with a match ending in a draw…. I don’t want some wacky shootout BS… or finding a way to get a winner at the cost of the integrity of the game….

WE need to do more to WIN… because we have the talent…. and we can GO FOR THE WIN…
as opposed to settling for the draw….
I don’t think draws are the problem…. perhaps its our style of play when we are posed with a tie match in the last 10 or 15 minutes??

  10. Hawk Says:

I’m excited about our prospects, and agree that an undefeated season would be a tremendous accomplishment. Hoevever, I’m not a big fan of bringing other sports into the discussion. There has been a perfect NFL season (Miami) and one could argue that in several of the sports named a draw is not an option. Most Americans hate a draw by the way, pity because often that is a fair result. Let’s focus on the beautiful game. I will continue to cheer my gunners and hope they never lose, but it would be a hollow accomplishment if we don’t win the league.
