Back in December during the Road Trip, a group of us were at the Gunners Pub with Kelvin when the topic of songs and chants came up. Kelvin mentioned to us that he and a friend were working on coming up with an American Gooner song using “Yankee Doodle Dandy” as a model. I’ve been thinking about that off and on since I got back and, after some trial and error, I think I’ve come up with one. Again, thanks to Kelvin for giving me the idea, and if anybody else has different verses to add or even new songs, definitely post them. We have the ArseAm flag, so I think a song is the next logical step:
(Sung to tune of “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy”)
I’m a Yankee Doodle Gooner,
A Yankee Gooner, win or lose.
I came to London to see Arsenal,
Not Spurs, West Ham, or the Blues.
I’ve got a Dennis Bergkamp kit,
It’s my Yankee Gooner joy.
Yankee Gooner came to Highbury,
Watched the Arsenal lift the Cup,
Every Yank should be a Gooner too.

mmmm. Maybe it should be with, apologies to the Canadians.
I’m a Yankee Doodle Gooner,
A Yankee Gooner, ’til I die.
Went to London, saw The Arsenal,
Not the scum, they’re pony*.
I am Gooner ’till I die.
Pony stands for “pony and trap - crap” cockney rhyming slang.

We’ll just have to find a Canadian with lyric talent. Does anybody have Shania’s new number in Switzerland?
The Arsenal, will do, what must, be done!!

Good tune,

sounds better with the scums from Spurs in.

I have thought of a Canadian Tune - sung to the Canadian National Anthem. The Americans should be familiar with it but some still think we live in igloos
Oh Arsenal, we come to Highbury
True Gunners love, Denis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry
With Glorious Hearts, We see Vieria rise
To lift the Champion’s Cup
From far and wide, Oh Arsenal, we cheer and shout for thee!
God keep our home, free of scum like Spurs
Oh Arsenal, we cheer and shout for thee!
Oh Arsenal, we cheer and shout for thee!
I did think of a tune sung to “I’m a Lumberjack” - you know from Monty Python but it’s late and I’m tired to try to remember it . . .

Bob, you heading back to London already!?! I’m so envious!!!!
I’m thinking you could change the second line - something that doesn’t tie your tongue like
True Gunners Love, Arsene, Bergkamp, Henry! . . . you can mix up the names a bit there - you know e.g. Adams, Pires, Toure . . . etc etc etc. It’s flexible!
It will bring a tear to my eye when this is sung at Highbury!!!
Go Gunners Go!
