I visited England for spring break a couple weeks ago. The highlight of my trip was visiting Highbury. I took the stadium tour and I attended the game against Bolton Wanderers. I managed to buy a ticket at face value outside the stadium from someone whose son was ill, and I sat in the East Stand Upper Tier, while my mother, who was traveling with me, ended up in the North Bank. I think she caught a bit of Gooner fever.
It was a great game, with two wonderful goals by Robert Pires and Dennis Bergkamp. Plus, Bolton played really well, making the ending tense. Throw in some unpredictable British weather and the game had a little bit of everything. I concluded the day with an evening out eating and drinking around the Finbury Park area.
I had a great time and I can’t wait to go again.

vs. Charlton on Feb 28, 2004. I got tickets through my employer’s London office. My girlfriend went with me, she wanted to see Highbury and further understand why I get up at 6am to watch the Gunners! I met Rick Breese from bigsoccer.com and his friends, including Judy (she says she reads this, hello Judy!) at the Arsenal Tavern for a few beers.
Walking around before the game was impressive, seeing all of the little stands and touring the Highbury area.
It was very cold and my girlfriend didn’t want to stay for the game, so I sent her to Harrod’s! We went to the game and I had an extra ticket from my employer, we sold it to a fan for face value who was about to buy from a tout. Down with touts!
We walked inside Higbury, I immediately went to the gift shop and bought the complete history book and DVD. then Judy and I went to our seats in the North Bank. When I walked up the steps it was such a great feeling!
it was also good to see the Gunners score 2 goals in the first five minutes!
it was a great time and I hope to visit Highbury again!

Always great to hear the American Supporters in Highbury club continues to grow. Hope to join it soon.
Question: Does the DVD that you purchased at Highbury work in American format equipment? I know they sell them all over the internet in PAL, and I’ve been looking for a NTSC version.

Detlef!
I was at the same match! I was also at the Arsenal Tavern pre-match. Things got a little too close at the end of the match! and the rain/snow/sleet/sun made for an interesting day… but we got the win!

Well guys I hope you all had a wicked time in and around Highbury and at the same time enjoyed the best weather. The weather makes London great cause you cant never predict what next. Like the Totts.
But my question is to Detlet, I hope you had some money left after leaving your lady at Harrods. Maybe the next time you are in London “Highbury” we can go shopping at WHL. That place is cheap. You get it.
You can buy the whole team for less than 80 cents with no trophies to buy or see

it was great hearing my fellow American and current Spurs goalkeeper Kasey Keller bash Spurs management for not having a clue.

re: the DVD.
i bought it at the Highbury gift shop. It is region “0″ whereas most DVDs in the USA are “1″ or “all.” Ironically, if you have a cheaper DVD player (like an Apex) it will play. I have a Toshiba combination DVD/VCR and it won’t play.
i had one of my friends convert the DVD into VHS format so I have the DVD on VHS.

I went to Costco and picked up a DVD player that plays all regions for $49.00. You can pick up a player at Walmart for about $40 that will play PAL. That’s probably about what it cost you for the DVD.

my friend converted the DVD to VHS format. so far i’ve watched the first part of it, through the 1950s. the old footage is neat to watch, especially the stuff on Herbert Chapman. He was truly a visionary.
