Now is the time for support not whining.
So we finally lost one. Big deal, there is no joy for Man. Utd. Lest we forget Sir Alex made it very clear how low on the totem pole he rates the FA Cup when he pulled his team out for some B.S.Tourney & devalued the Cup. Hopefully they will lose.
What is more important is that we support our team, NOW. I have seen many worse defeats in my 40+ years supporting my team. We have a great team that diserves real supporters not fair weather friends. How many of the 800 members of Arsenal America would support us if in a few years we started playing like 1965 again. I love our team now but I would still support them no matter what. Now is the time to stand up & be counted

I hope we all move on and yes this is the time to show support and I dont think the real fans are going to change sides. A gunner for life.
But I also have to say your facts are totally wrong about United pulling out of the FA cup.
As we all know it was a huge political decision which did not worked. If you read the house of common reading into it the Government, FA and lots of people within the sport govern body use United to help England get the world Cup. So let get the facts right.
United did not devalued the cup and still the best cup in England.

My point was that with United not in the Cup that year, made it a hollow victory to any team remaining, ( would they have been the victors if Man. U had been playing), & in that way it devalued the Cup. I don’ t beleive that Man. U. were forced to pull out of the cup. It may (as you say have been political it was certainly financial.
What I was trying to convey is that if they do win the Cup now I hope the victory is hollow for them, as you know Sir Alex’s,team & fans included, would rather be elsewhere.
I agree that the FA. Cup is a great Cup even as you say “the best” but today is a new day & we have Chelsea in a few hour. So all iI will say for now is “Come on you reds”

Be it it was political reason, financial reason, or whatever else, the FACT is they DID pull out from the FA Cup. Worst was they were freshing off from a treble winning season, when the Champions of the Europe decided FA did not worth playing for, and rather to play in that whatever cup (sorry, can’t remember a thing about that competition), if this is not called DEVALUE, what is?
When we won the FA Cup last season, all i heard was we won something as a “consolation” as our Premiership defeat, and our season was still being viewed as a failed one. I remember back then when i first followed English football, FA Cup was HUGH. Winning it would always be seen as a MAJOR achievement, never a consolation. Had Sir Alex’s Man Utd still in the Champions League, and still in the Premiership race, let’s guess in which competition he would choose to rest his key players.
Of course, we shouldn’t place all the blame on FA Cup’s devaluation in Fergie alone. The game of football is all about money right now, with such a big difference (in terms of money making opportunity) between participation in Champions League and other competitions, it somehow devalued the FA Cup as well. But Manchester United has to shoulder part of the blame.

Unfortunately, if Manchester United has to shoulder part of the blame, so does the Arsenal.

Here’s one I’ve been waiting for that has yet to surface, and I have to say I’m surprised:
The Arsenal regarding the F.A. Cup as strictly an English honor, and therefore, unimportant to an EPL side who sports fewer than three starting English players on a semi-regular basis. While ManU’s decision to forego participation may be explained one way or the other in terms of their accomplishments, monetary rewards, and the subsequent devaluation, at least no one is trouncing us for taking a non-nationalistic approach to Saturday.
Yet. I guess they’d rather be pronouncers of doom. Sells more papers and fuels more rivalries.

Well well well.
Guys I hope we start talking about football instead of writing fiction.
Yes, Man United pull out of the FA Cup not because the want to but becacuse the British government and the whole sporting bodies were bidding for England to host the world cup and the only way to get it was using United to play in some stupid cup the players were not interested in.
It was a bad political gamble and asked the labour party member “SAF” what really happen. United were at that time seen as a good team to play in that stupid Cup hoping it might help the country.
United fans and even some of their directors were not happy about it. Money play a part but to blame United here is a joke.
As the media put it at the time United became too big that they get themselves in a political mess.
Off to Smith to watch a good game.

Andez you write good articles but please dont get into fiction. You losing it a bit here.
They did it in the name of England which as a very stupid political madness.
United did not devalue the cup and what about Arsenal. Let not get into these stories. The Mirror or some will say “the Arsenal paper” were the first people to come out with this story and the reasons behind the decision.
Any geniue fan will tell you the reasons behind it was as stupid as anything that comes out for the football body and the government. Even the London evening standard had to change their story when the facts came out.
Maybe you need a copy of Kate’s report to MP’s about what really happen.
