Breaking News!!!!!! HOW THE NEIGHBOURS IN N17 ARE VIEWING NEXT SUNDAY’S MATCH:)lol
Apr 17

Here is a hypothetical situation, it’s the last weekend of the season, we’ve already won the league and our unbeaten run continues and we are home to Leicester City. They are in the third relegation spot, one point behind the sc*m who are away to relegated Wolves.

Our game kicks-off a couple of minutes late due to crowd congestion. Arsene gives a run-out to a couple of players who need the right number of games to qualify for a winners medal.

The sc*m get a draw against Wolves and our game is goalless as Leicester win a corner in inury time. The ball flies into the area and Sol Campbell leaps.

Does he clear it and we become the first team to remain unbeaten all season, or does he score an accidental own goal which sends the sc*m down?

I know what I’d choose, what about you?

Fuck it score an own goal.. Just to send Spurs down. I can see Spurs going down if you look at their remaining games and only if Man city and Leeds can sort themselves out..

Man United did not help Man City at all knowing there was nothing to play for.

  2. Andez Says:

Interesting sceniro! But I will go for the unbeaten record. It will make HISTORY! Besides…

Who cares if Spurs staying up or going down, they aren’t going to threaten us either way are they?!

  3. Lady_Scotland Says:

Kelvin, For course there is only one answer here.
I will follow your lead and make sure we score an own goal. I will even bet on Sol scoring an own goal.

    Anyway thanks for the information.

  4. seattletom Says:

    its so hard!!!!!
but it has to be the own goal
everyone will know its on purpose which would mean we’d be seen as undefeated anyway
    sort of
but id fear for sols life if he done that
id rather we send them down next year perhaps

    up the Arse!!!!!!!

  5. Simboster Says:

A PLAYER NEEDS 10 PREMIERSHIP APPEARANCES IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A CHAMPIONS MEDAL! fyi

  6. stag133 Says:

Couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the status of Spurs. I don’t care if they are in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Div, or the freaking Vauxhall Conf…
I am in the minority … I know… but they are meaningless to me. They pose no threat. I’d DEFINITELY want to go undefeated. What Arsenal does is far more important to me that what Spurs don’t do…
An undefeated season in the league would be the one thing at this point that would set us apart as a SPECIAL TEAM, not just another league champion. This team IS something special… I want us to go undefeated badly.

  7. asfoolasiam Says:

LOL! Sol will try for the own goal, but will put it over. Or he’ll be called for fouling Toure in the box and the goal will be disallowed. Some things never change.

Winning the trophy at WHL will be enough for me.

(Anywho, if Sp*rs are relegated, i won’t have the joy of reading about “yet another loss” every week, or the players they “almost” signed. Ya know the 1st Division down’t get nearly the coverage here as the Premier League.)

  8. love_Gunners Says:

God Kelvin you dont have to asked. Sol will score a hat-trick of own goals. Sol is a Londoner with pride and Monkey head will give him the orders with the help of Cole.

And if the go down wow!!! which is possible looking at the table I will buy their grounds and hire it out to the crazy dons. Spurs away to West Ham and Millwall will be fun to watch.

  9. love_Gunners Says:

Spurs can never threaten us. But the hate for Spurs is not all about football but also PRIDE and RESPECT. Beating spurs counts as 3 points but the feeling knowing we but spurs counts as double points to the Londoners

Is in the blood. Born to hate anything from Spurs
    .

  10. love_Gunners Says:

Yes Keown needs 4, Reyes 2, Ali 3 and Kanu I guess need half a game. So I hope to see these guys in the next games esp. Keown knowing this might be his last season .

  11. GeoffWessel Says:

Um….sorry, I have a real problem with condoning any players, especially those of teams I support, with fixing games. So screw it, unbeaten record all the way.

Incidentally, off-topic, it says here I have a private message, how do I retrieve that? Anyone??

    — Geoff

  12. kelvin Says:

Go to your details on the Members list to retrieve your email.

Also, I didn’t suggest Sol threw the game I was very careful in stating ACCIDENTAL, although if it ever happened no-onw would see it that way.

  13. kelvin Says:

Was that for my information or everyone elses, cos I’m very much aware what a player needs, so is Arsene which is why he let Stuart Taylor come on for 10 minutes in the last game of the season when we won in 2002.

  14. Andez Says:

Geoff got a point here. If we won the title yet purposely send Spurs down, the media would have us as an “unsporting”, “unprofessional” team. It will cast a shadow on our wonderful season!

btw, has it crossed anyone’s mind if Spurs relegates it would give them the greatest chance of finally winning a silverware next season? The Division One title. Well… maybe NOT!!

  15. Lady_Scotland Says:

I don?t see anything unsporting or unprofessional if we help send Spurs down. You really have to understand the love/hate and also the rivalry between the two clubs. True football has change a lot and don?t care about Spurs but the media will understand it apart from maybe the foreign media.

From what I have learn in the US during my few months there, most folks don?t really understand the love and hate when it comes to local derbies. I love to play against United, AC Milan, RM, and Chelsea etc for good competition but Spurs is a different story to the traditionalist. Is not all about winning but the respect of power and the Pride of Arsenal Badge.

Oh I can?t see them winning the Div 1 title if they get relegated. That is be the end of Spurs.

  16. Canadian_Gooner Says:

I agree, Geoff. It doesn’t matter how much we want to see Spurs go down, it’s against the Corinthian and professional spirit of the game for a player to act against his own club’s best interests (going undefeated in a season and setting a modern record.)

As well, why are we talking like going undefeated is an inevitability? Did we not just learn two huge lessons in celebrating prematurely? You watch, we’re bringing some bad karma on ourselves, and Spurs might just beat us 1-nil. Stranger things have happened.

  17. GeoffWessel Says:

I’m very admittedly one of those New Jack Arsenal fans, and I couldn’t care less what happened to Tottenham. The only time I’m forced to care is when I happen to see some Spurs yob talkin smack about Arsenal. Other than that, pfft.

The idea of the “local derby” isn’t exactly an alien concept here — quite a number of states have several teams even in the same city. But for very practical reasons (namely, the geographic width of the USA!), more, say, Yankees fans are more likely to say their hated rivals are the Boston Red Sox than the New York Mets, but believe me when there’s a Yankees/Mets (or Cubs/White Sox) local derby there IS quite a bit of pride on the line!

If Spurs were actually able to constitute a threat, I’d be more inclined to care about them more beyond a few punchlines to jokes.

If you want to help send Spurs down…BEAT THEM. But don’t give a 3rd team free points just so you can see a traditional rival go down. Throwing games, even unintentionally, is complete ass. And even accusations of such WILL get you into trouble — to wit, Celtic’s Chris Sutton (or was it Neil Lennon?) getting slammed by the Scottish FA for accusing Dundee of letting goals through for Rangers on the final day of the season just so Celtic didn’t win that year.

If Spurs go down…tough. Should’ve won more. And I will agree that Spurs would have NO guarantee of winning the 1st Division title — looking at the current 1st Division table, of the 3 teams sent down last season, only West Brom has an assured place in the Premiership next year (Sunderland and West Ham both would need to get into the playoffs to even be considered)

  18. Canadian_Gooner Says:

There’s something terribly unsportsmanlike if a player *chooses* to take a course of action which would hinder or in some way damage or injure his own club in order to do harm to another club. That being said, there’s nothing unsportsmanlike if a supporter wishes to see a rival club relegated. You have to understand what I mean here. I am differentiating between the actions of a player and the wishes of the supporters.

Now, believe me, I hate Spurs more than any other club. I don’t see Man U as anything other than a competitor, not a “rival” in the same way Spurs are. Same goes for Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, anyone. I want to see Spurs relegated (but not go broke) the same as you do. But I cannot condone the actions of an Arsenal player who chooses to injure the Arsenal in order to injure Spurs. That’s not hypocritical morality on my part, either. I said I wanted to see Spurs relegated, but not at the expense of the Arsenal losing a game, even a “meaningless” game. If the relegation of Spurs is to be of any joy to me, it must occur fairly.

  19. Canadian_Gooner Says:

It was Chris Sutton who said that stuff last season, Geoff. And it was Dunfermline that played Rangers. Sutton got a two game suspension for that too, I think. I should know, I used to hang about at the local Celtic Supporters Club.

  20. Andez Says:

Agree with what Canadian_Gooner stated: as supporters we have every right to wish our arch rivals going down, but I can’t accept our players would actually be throwing a game themselves in order to achieve that.

To me, it’s simple - any soft of match-throwing is unacceptable. For any team, any player, even if it’s from my beloved team, to commit acts like that, it would deinitely got me to lose a lot of respect towards them.

  21. Gunnergav Says:

I don’t know if Sol would do that… he used to play for them and while we all hate Spurs, he probably feels some appreciation for the time he played with them…plus, it’s just not Arsenal to throw a game, that’s what Manure would do. It’s scummy and low.

  22. Canadian_Gooner Says:

Exactly. Though, fair play to Kelvin, his scenario did say the own goal was accidental, and basically asked if we, as supporters, desired an unbeaten season and the title, or the title and the relegation of Spurs. I still say though the unbeaten season and the title. Spurs might climb back up, and so we’ll only be alord their relegation over them for so long. An unbeaten season, however, is something we’ll be able to gloat about to EVERYONE for QUITE some time. In any case, lets not start dreaming already. We dreamt about the treble, and remember how painful that was to lose. Let’s not set ourselves up for another painful loss (an unbeaten season.)

  23. love_Gunners Says:

A study of two different football cultures. I don?t think anyone in their right mind what Arsenal to throw out a game but guys it had happen before and would again. Let chill and read Kelvin?s post again. The big questions here are ?Accidental & hypothetical situation?

I have been to a NY Gaints and Jets game and there is nothing compare to being at the middle of Arsenal/Spurs, United/City … etc game. The passion in England is far greater than any country in the world when it comes to sports.

The answer to this post can be found in Sunday?s papers and am talking about the broad sheets. The tabloids will be running more stories leading to kick off. Maybe people will come to understand why most fans within England will love to see Arsenal sending Spurs down. There are talks already about security and crowd trouble not because of Arsenal winning the title but at WHL, which is possible. Extra cops on duty with no other games in London on sunday.

We have won the league at United and Liverpool but this one would be special.

  24. GeoffWessel Says:

    > The passion in England is far greater than any country in the world when it comes to sports.

Sorry, but that’s crap. Plain and simple.

    — Geoff

  25. Canadian_Gooner Says:

Anyone who would say that hasn’t been to Toronto in hockey season. Those Leafs fans are in-feckin-sane! And you can’t say that the Toronto-Montreal rivalry is not as passionate as football rivalries in England. Actually you might be able to say that. The Leafs-Canadiens rivalry is more akin to the Old Firm rivalry, as it’s based on “culture” (Ontario English protestant vs. Quebec French catholic), rather than slight geographical differences.

  26. BarnetFCGunner Says:

J, your statement about passion in England compare to others is wrong. Sometimes the media hype up the games. What because of one game “Jet/Gaint” that you saw. Come on!! you are watching too much of foxnews again.

  27. BarnetFCGunner Says:

Do you people remember 1987/8, last game against Watford? The Gunners have done it before and will do it again. You don?t need to be told why we lost 1 nil with a team full of kids and reserve players at home. These things do happen each year and saw that in 2000/1 Champions league and 1998-world cup qualifications. Teams don?t need to explain why they lost and to whom? You have to prove it.

Oh yes Spurs counts a lot. Not to forget the back pages in 1995 European Cup Winners? Cup finals Arsenal 0 Spurs 1. The sad part was losing to a Fuc;;; freak goal but scored by a c**t Nayim. Remember that old heads?

  28. stag133 Says:

The passion of certain match-ups around the world DEFINITELY are similar to Arsenal v. Totts…
Jets v Giants? who the hell cares about those 2?
Try Yankees v RedSox… where here in Boston, a chant of “Yankees Suck” can start in a movie theater or subway train…
    Arsenal v Tottenham doesn’t have a lock on passion and meaning… Celtic/Rangers, Boca/River, Bruins/Canadiens, Lakers/Celtics, the list could go on for a while…

  29. GeoffWessel Says:

    Oh HELL yes — Steelers/Browns, Bears/Packers, Cuibs/Reds, Pacers/Knicks, Lakers/Kings…

The lack of so-called passion for intra-city rivalries is MORE than made up for, believe me. To say England holds the monopoly on sports passion is ridiculous.

  30. love_Gunners Says:

Ok Geoff, I might be very wrong here. It wasn’t meant to offend any one or country.

  31. love_Gunners Says:

Yes my friend, I was stupid to write those comments without any prove or one prove base on The Gaints/Jets. My American friends at work just inform me about some of the rivalry here. Like Wenger I lift my hands up and admits to my mistakes..lol

Also you have to bear with my here. I dont watch most of your against apart from being a glory hunter when it comes to the Devils but like America football been to 6 jets games but there was no passion there for me.

  32. love_Gunners Says:

Foxnews my as!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not that weak minded and dont lived in a world of fantasy and fiction. I might be wrong but not that stupid.

    Dont push it my friend.

  33. DaveP Says:

I’d love to see Spurs go down, but what fun would that leave knowing that Arsenal won’t have the local derby to play against the most hated team by Arsenal supporters. Personally I’d like to see them go endefeated for the year just top off a Premiership Title. That would say more about this years team than anything.

  34. ScottyUS Says:

Like Geoff, I’m a new-head, and an American to boot, so the decision here is easy: Gunners unbeaten. The Spurs might go down in the other scenario, but they’d have the bragging rights to have been the ONLY team to beat The Arsenal? a stronger argument than “we “let” them win”. Seems to me, so much more can be done to humiliate them clinching in winner’s style than any other way.

But I must say, having heard so much about the rivalry over the years, it has been a real trip reading the posts here. Having grown up in the Eagles/Cowboys era, where schoolyard fights were commonplace, I still can’t imagine hating a team so much that a fan would rather see his team lose to them than they be allowed to compete in the next season. Hatred like that is almost impressive.

My vote: Gunners 6 - 0 Spurs. DB10 and Freddy get their tricks for the year and put to rest any talk of them leaving.

  35. LAgooner Says:

Without any hesitation. OG. Filth down.

  36. 4evagunners Says:

Arsenal arnt a teamo lose on purpose as some one said thats what man u would do coz thier low little bastards..
but why would we go unbeaten through the whole season just lose a Shitehartlane id rather see us smash them. then see them relegated
baceasue then next season well do it all again.
thats what makes football so good to watch and watching Arsenal do it to the shiteheads is even betta

  37. 1-0arsenal Says:

Sol should head it clear. As much as I would like the Spuds to be relegated what about next season. I look forward to the derbies, they are great. More importantly Arsenal going undefeated for an entire season would make us a team for THE AGES! No other team in English football for over 100 years has accomplished it and I would have more ammo for the pub debates about best teams/players ever.
