I think I’ve already metioned other circumstances of how important the rivalry is but my mum reminded me of this on the phone today and I it just sums evrything up.
My dad wasn’t bothered coz he’s not really a big footy supporter, and if he was i’td be west ham. My mum’s family had been my Arsenal influence. Mum grew up in Islington and stood on north bank with my uncle, her sisters and my nan and grandad she wasnt fussed too much anymore and it was my uncle that was the real influence as he was only 13 years older than me and more like a brother than uncle I was 6 years old, and at my school I was one of the only gooners there was plenty of spuds, hammers and even millwall but thats wat happens when living in an east london/essex territory so everyday I suffered the torment of the 6 year old kids going on at me about how crap and boring arsenal were id had enough….
I asked mum if i could support another team the shock on her face but after sayin how hard I was finding it she said i could support whoever I wanted.
I told her I was going to support spurs like the rest of my mates. “NO!!!! anyone but spurs,you’ll make your uncle cry and he’ll never speak to you again!!!”
That was that. That’s how bitter the rivalry is, it divides people from that day forth i have been Arsenal thru n thru thank you mum for helping me in my decision not that I had much choice the fact that I could support anyone but the scum says it all
