May 24

I’ll be out of town this week, so updates will be limited. For those of you who inquired about the Season Review DVD, I’ll try to get some pricing from the club shortly.

Cheers.

Okay, I’ll say it. I’m suffering from serious withdrawl here. I can’t stand the off-season, although I’ll be enjoying following our lads as they clash in the Euros. More good news is they’ve announced a friendly as early as July. The 12th, I think. Vs. Barnet. It should be a nice little day in the park for the reserves as well as Antonio who will probably be reeling from being omitted from the Spanish squad although he is probably better off where he is. Here’s hoping he takes it out on them without injury.

Other news? Anyone? I hear The Moaners are at it again. Horsey and Drivel are both crying. Ruud wants a pat on the back from Wenger. Kind of answers the question, “Who’s your daddy?” Drivel is having a problem on the playground cause the all the other kids are calling him a loser. “We didn’t fail!” he keeps saying. Arsenal just excelled. Well which is it people, are we great, or did everyone else just suck? Both want Wenger to take back his feelings on who was the best team in 2002-2003. Okay, girls. We blew a ten point lead two season ago, back when you still didn’t care about the FA Cup. That makes you better. Better?

Before you know it, our Champions Trophy will be old news. Let’s hope that we go three more straight at the start to tag Norwich’s record. And then its 19 to catch Milan. I wonder how far we’ll have to go to shut up the nay-bobs?

Keeping the streak alive in Jersey,

    Scotty

Yeah, I’m suffering from withdrawal as well. Who are people supporting in the euros - France, England, Sweden, Latvia, in that order? i.e. according to how many of our players they’ve got? I think I’ll be cheering for France but as I live in north London I’ll probably be lynched. Anyone know a France-supporting pub in Islington?

  3. stag133 Says:

    FRANCE!
I hope Henry and Pires score a hat-full against England!!!

  4. arsenalfootballclub Says:

    Anyone here going to Portugal?

  5. arsenalfootballclub Says:

Not in Islington but if you take the tube over to Waterloo, jump on the Eurostar and three hours later you should be able to find it. J/K Cheers.

  6. BarnetFCGunner Says:

If England gets into the Semis.. I said if just to keep some folks happy.

  7. BarnetFCGunner Says:

    Nice one. Enough said.

Hey Miranda, you are a very funny chap but do you support the French or an individual? I guess you will end up supporting Man U if the french players in Arsenal end up there.

  8. ScottyUS Says:

I want to see France do well, or more accurately, Henry, Pires and Vieira. But I also want to see England hold their own. Special place in my heart for those lads. And I always love to see the underdog pull it together and shock the world.

I’ll be following our guys, and some key English League competition as well (yes, that means Horseface, Prettyboy and their ilk). The better reps from the EPL do, the better The Arsenal are going to look.

France take on England in the opener of Group B. Anyone want to guess who scores first?

  9. love_Gunners Says:

    Sol to score first..

    3 - 1 to England.

  10. love_Gunners Says:

dont start any troubles if you do go. enjoy the place..
    and a big IF

  11. stag133 Says:

I’d love to see Sol score…
but it “ain’t gonna happen”… and England is not beating France… unless Paddy gets a red-card.

  12. ScottyUS Says:

    Imagine the scenario:

Paddy decides to execute another one of his brilliant, albeit rare, runs into the box bolstered by his fresh memory of the winner he netted in the final game vs. Liecester. He does this just as Henry wiggles past falling marker Lampard into the 18, drawing the double-team of Terry and an anxious Cole coming out of position to make up for his clumsy teammate. The only one left to cut him off his Sol, who crosses the box and slides in. He’s a little late, and in an effort to pull his foot out at the last so as not to hurt his captain, barely nips Paddy on his trailing foot. Paddy goes down, and a penalty is awarded.

Visibly apologetic, Sol approaches Paddy and they shake hands and smile. Henry joins the fray, and Cole follows. The view of them all in a huddle sets the crowd afire. Of course, Henry is chosen to take the spot kick. He drills it low, to the left. James guesses right and gets a touch, but it hits the inside of the post and finds the net.

Moments later, Sol receives the pass from James and sends it downfield and finds space in front of Rooney on a perfectly timed break through the back line. He’s caught, however, by Gallas and just as he gets to the ball he collides with Silvestre who turned his head to see Ashley expertly time the nick and chip it, comically (as he is the clown) over Barthez to tie it up.

So, Paddy gets an assist, Henry scores, Sol and Ashley immediately redeem themselves with an assist and score respectively as Chelski and Manky are humiliated in the process.

    Could happen.

belongs to Nottingham Forest back when they were a powerhouse in the 1970s.

  14. miranda Says:

You don’t have to go that far! There’s a pub in Battersea that has French tv - I went there for the last world cup - much better than English for Arsenal fans - endless lingering playbacks of Thierry’s wonderous sprints. But I’m too lazy to go south of the river this time.

  15. ScottyUS Says:

Yes, thanks. I made a mistake.

Also, the friendly is on the 17th, not the 12th. Man, just a few short weeks and I’m already slipping.

  16. miranda Says:

Good question. I’m English but nationalism isn’t my thing - I loathe the chauvinism of some England fans - so I’m supporting Arsenal, my neighbourhood, not a country.
Oh I guess when the time comes I’ll probably find myself cheering for England, but the football won’t exactly set me alight - those long balls to poor Heskey, who’ll probably fall on his bum. And if that irritating little gingernut puts in one of his two-footed tackles on Vieira and injures him … I’m already having nightmares about it.

And another thing, I’m having nightmares about: how on god’s green earth are we going to persuade anyone to buy Jeffers?

  17. ScottyUS Says:

I forgot to include Henry’s DB10-like ball to Vieria on the run which drwas Sol. But you get my drift.

  18. stag133 Says:

Surely someone will post the story on here…
but its been confirmed that ALAN SMITH has been transferred to MAN UTD. for 7 Million Pounds.

I think they got a real good one here. I would have liked to see Smith at the Arsenal… He will definitely help their cause.

  19. Canadian_Gooner Says:

    I’m sure you do. *coughbandwagonjumpercough*

  20. Canadian_Gooner Says:

Hey sorry bout that mate, for some reason the next line I wrote wasn’t posted. Anyway I just wanted to say I was only engaging in some end-of-season piss taking. No harm meant :)

  21. stag133 Says:

Well… seeing as the USA is not involved in Euro2004… I think its obvious I would like to see the team with the most Arsenal players WIN!
I am not a fan of England… me thinks they are HIGHLY over-rated… and look forward to seeing GREAT football from the likes of France, Holland, Spain…etc…
No offense taken… I’ll gladly jump on the French bandwagon…!

  22. ScottyUS Says:

I read that this AM. He’s a good one?very emotional and a hard worker. The only business left for Sir Alex to do is to steal him from his agent and transfer the business to his son, a la Fortune. Have you read about that bit of sneaky biz yet?

More news on the stacking competion:

Mourinho is poised to take over Chelsea (although they’re still jerking Ranieri around) if he doesn’t end up at Juventus. From what I could see, he couldn’t rip off the medal and get off the pitch last night fast enough after Porto took a blast of confetti up their shorts. What’s more, he’ll probably have Morientes, previously linked to us, to push around. As far as his link to @FC, Fernando is probably about 8 yrs. too senior to excite AW anyway.

  23. love_Gunners Says:

    Nice to know,
England over-rated and who said so???Foxsportsworld or soccernet - the guys with no cure about football. they call it soccer.

Whether is England, Germany or French etc the national press hype up the national team and dont see anything wrong with that. Because soccernet or Foxsportsworld is part English all you hear is England. Turn to Eurosports or any other national press and you will notice they do the same.. If the USA is there they will do the same. Was at Nevada saturday for the FA cup and was glad to know the guys were ready to support their country now that season is ended. All I say is good luck and the best team will win.

    So!!!!!!!!!!Off our back.

England United …Come On England !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m with Scotty here - would love to see the “underdogs” doing well, remember Denmark at 92?!

The coming Euro 2004 would like to see France doing well, for obvious reasons!

The Reds finally axed GH. I was actually glad when seeing Liverpool won the 4th spot to qualify for CL, thought that it would ensure Houllier to stay for a longer time, and it would mean - we have one less team to worry about next season! But now… well, who knows? If there is a team shall be called “sleeping giants”, Liverpool got to be that team. Watch out, let’s hope they are not waking up…

I feel for the Elland Road faithfuls. One day they saw their favour son crying on the pitch after they had got relegated, the next moment their loyal home grown star opted to joined their most hated rivals…

  26. miranda Says:

Rumour heard on the radio this morning: we’re trying to sign Kaka for 15 million - pounds? euros? - anyway sounds like more than we’ve got to splash out on another striker, but wouldn’t it be brilliant if it’s true? Maybe it’s true, a miracle. I read somewhere that Kaka and Gilberto are close mates and religious - they have weekly hour-long prayer sessions by phone. This would cut down on their phone bills.

  27. stag133 Says:

    I don’t think we need another striker… don’t care who it is…
United have signed Alan Smith for just 7 million…
they are lining up a defender from PSG for 6 million… and these seem to be very shrewd buys!

I’d have preferred Alan Smith over Kaka or any other striker on the market… I’d like to see us find a defender for cover at the back… we are loaded in midfield with young players there trying to push thru… and Pennant coming back?

Reyes, Bergy,Aliadaire, Henry at the front…!!!
not sure 15 Mill on a striker is the best move at the moment.
