Top Ten Signs You’re Going Through Arsenal Withdrawal CALLING WASHINGTON DC AREA GOONERS
Jun 01

Arsenal America members have spoken and Goal-scoring God Thierry Henry has been named as the Arsenal America Player of the Year.

Apparently you lot think scoring for fun, embarrassing defenses, providing tons of assists and playing with tremendous spirit, pride and passion is worth honouring. Can’t really argue with that.

Henry was pretty great last year and then just took it to another level.

To simply classify Henry as a goal-scorer would be unfair. RvN is a goalscorer, that is what he does, and it’s pretty much all he does. Henry is different, he can dribble, pass, take on defenders, shoot from long distance, take ridiculous free kicks and I’ve seen him track back inside his own half to pick up the ball.

He quite simply has no peer at this time.

When celebrating the talents of Thierry Henry it reminds me how absolutely spoiled we are as Arsenal fans. How many fans of other teams, IN THEIR LIFETIMES, will see a player of his quality? Not many. Oh, did I mention we also have been watching DB10, Pires and Vieira?

Now fast forward five years - Reyes, Van Persie, Bentley, Cesc. That sound you just heard was fans across England crapping their pants.

I wonder how long it will be before Roman’s new ace Mourinho lays out an offer for him?

I see potential problems for Chelsea. The Porto overachiever is used to getting gutsy performances from “unfancied” sides. And now he’s working under the Czar and dealing with an all-star squad.

I can’t wait to see his stone-faced expression turn to bewilderment when he watches TH14 and DB10 and JR9 monkey with his defensive wizardry. This should be good.

Is it too early to say GO GUNNERS!!!!!!!

The way I see it - Chelsea is heading into the wrong direction. Spending 20 millions for a 31-year-old left back while u already have a promising young left back in the squad is by no mean a “right” direction. I don’t know how anyone could build a team chemistry with purchasing policy like that. And make no mistake, this will not be the last time Chelsea spending money like that. Investment wise, it doesn’t make any sense apart from trying to take the shortcut to the glory. Is there really a “shortcut” to success?

As I said sometime a ago this will be the end of Chelsea. How Stupid can they be.

But Please Ranieri dont go to Spurs. You have lots of friends and fans and joining Spurs will kill our friendship.

    Long Live Arsenal.

    All Hail Henry!
another magnificent season by our star…

    Why downplay Chelsea?
Let’s face FACT… they have a tremendous amount of talent… and will have a core group of players that are together for another season. They can get better. Their new coach did a FANTASTIC job
at FC Porto. They will be a team to be reckoned with… to think otherwise is just silly.

United scooped up Alan Smith. A shrewd buy… and are looking at a defender from PSG. They surely won’t stand pat after what they consider a very dissapointing season. United will be back.

It will prove a very interesting season in 2004-05. We will have to play great football ALL the way THRU yet again.

I’m just curious as to how things will go without a whipping boy to push around. I agree that Chelsea may very well purchase themselves a title if personalities don’t interrupt an otherwise powerful group of players.

Andez is wise to the chemistry thing too, and I agree 100%. For instance, Duff. His shoulder has made him a “disappointment”. I predict bye-bye and buy-buy. How do you generate loyalty that way? When do the players start getting too worried about their disposability to kiss the badge?
Alan Smith, as good as he is, has already begun to show how that means nothing.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I, for one, will be depressed if Chelsea dominate in the league and Europe. Not just because of my devotion to The Arsenal, and I’m not predicting another power shift by any means, but football will forever be changed. Instead of shopping for young talent with heart, it is feasible to imagine that everyone will be looking for billlionaires to bankroll these huge, scarecrow teams. Boring.

C’mon, Gunners! Show them again what it means to groom a Champion and preserve the integrity of a beautiful league!

Chelsea will be a very good team. They can only get better with the majority of the team playing together for a 2nd year. Chemistry. Hmmm… winning = chemistry = winning. You can have all the chemistry you like, if you lose, nobody cares and it means nothing.

Why/How does Alan Smith mean nothing?
Because he left a relegated Leeds team for a chance to win trophies, play in the CL, and play with world class players on a world stage????
Should he have signed with Birmingham?
Sol LEFT the TOTTS to play for their arch nemesis. Does that show he means nothing???? I don’t understand the point on Smith.

I sincerely believe Arsenal will focus a great deal more on the Champions League next season. We have won the league… we have won the Cup… we have failed in Europe. I will be curious to see how we try and rectify this. I think alot of TOP players will be rotated and rested in the League & Cup… and the focus will be on winning the CL.

What Chelsea is doing is nothing less than what United does… to some degree. (and what we have some capability to do) Spend their money!! … because we have lots of money as well. But we choose to spend wisely, not spend crazy money trying to buy trophies.

The season should be very interesting and intense, with more than 2 teams with a chance!

Yah, good points. Its still a merry-go-round over there in Chelsea town. Reeks of desperation. True, they’re into a new year without, I’m guessing, the tinkering to contend with. I guess it makes sense. Still think Roman should offer the Arsenal 200 million just to have the Cup sit in his office.

Sol actually is a boyhood West Ham fan, and cites leaving Totts for Arsenal as a great business move for him at the time. They can hang as many signs as they want, but its silly. Smith went on record saying he “would never play for United”, and that he’s been in the Leed’s family since he was 12 and so forth. Then, even with other teams offering him more money, he chose United. For me, its just a sign of a new era. As far as I’m concerned, you go where you’re wanted and where you want to play. But don’t expect the fans to accept you carte blanche. Again, business is business, but then one should be careful what they say?as Sol has been.
