I don’t particularly have anything against David Beckham. I bet he’s a nice enough bloke who unfortunately married a talentless, money-grubbing harpy.
I don’t particularly care about the England national team, I’m a Dutch fan (hup Holland!). But two articles appeared over the weekend that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. First, Becks says, “I didn’t get proper fitness training in Spain.” Then it’s, “the media scrutiny really makes it hard on me.”
Ok, first of all, don’t blame Real Madrid on your lack of fitness. You don’t feel they are training you hard enough at Real, then stop going shopping, or shagging your personal assistant or making commercials and get in the gym and do some work. You know what Larry Bird did after practice? He ran the bleachers for HOURS. Or Dennis Rodman, who AFTER GAMES would ride a stationary bike for HOURS.
Second, please, don’t blame the media for your problems. Few athletes in the world have whored themselves to the media more than you. Don’t like the media poking around all the time? Try not selling every single personal moment to a tabloid or writing a 16th autobiography.
I know losing is tough, but take it like a man, admit defeat and move on. You did in ‘98 after the World Cup and everyone eventually rallied around you.

Thanks for that!
I’m sick to death of Beckham, who like so many other celebrities these days, want it both ways with the media.
Media whores when it suits them, media victims when is suits them. It’s pathetic really.
Beckham is bitching about his poor kids, and his poor wife, and his poor self….it’s enough to make your eyes well up with pity.
Beckham already has untold wealth. If the media intrusion is such a burden, he should cancel all his endorsments and try to regain his form - like any professional would.
I bet Fergie ain’t complaining….

On board here with y’all. Beckham needs to quit the “lifestyling” and show some responsibility. He’s still got a few years and a bunch of singular talent, and it would be a shame to see him go down like a big, whiney, wuss.
I wanted to see the Three Lions go all the way, but its all turned into a bunch of fingerpointing and whining. Sven, Becks, even Sol has gotten in on the act. Horrible deja vu for him, of course, but at least he and the rest of the Gunners showed some class on the pitch (Santini…sigh).
Time to return to Wenger, gentlemen. Luckily no one is seriously hurt outside of their pride.

Geez…. there were folks on Arsenal America advocating that Arsenal GET David Beckham… that he was a great English player…
I wouldn’t take Beckham for Ljunberg… I don’t think his game is very good… he can cross the ball with the best of them… not sure he is among the best at anything else…

England had a tendency to make a “scapegoat” after every major tournament exit. Waddle, Pearce, Beckham (on 98 and now), Batty, Southgate… and even our very own Tony Adams on 88 and Seaman on last World Cup. Talking about taking the easy way out. When a team lose, there are more factors behind than just one single incident or error made by a single individual.
I don’t think people should blame Beckham for the England defeat. So that he missed a penalty, but i don’t remember anyone complained when he scored one against Argentina on the last World Cup. England did not lose because of Beckham missed a penalty, they lost because of their negative tactic when trying to hold on to a lead for 87 minutes.
I am no Beckham fan neither, and I do agree Beckham’s defendingless situation like he’s in right now is very much something he asked for it. You try live a high-profile life, you are going to fall down hard when things don’t go your way.
I have said for many many years - Beckham is never as great a player as people who made him of. So that he can make some great crosses, but what else?
It maybe cruel he has been made of a scapegoat once again after trying so hard to get rid of the bad memory of 98 World Cup, but that’s life I guess. As stated, the higher you climb, the harder you fall. Things could be difference… does anybody remember there is also another player who had missed a penalty kick? But why he never got mentioned?

Maybe that is why he got sold!

At Arsenal, crossing the ball would be a waste of time - we don’t have anyone who can head the damn thing.
