Prior to the start of Euro 2004 Finals, I were very confidenced France would be the eventual winners - their quality simply went head and shoulders about the rest.
Yet after their first two matches of the Finals, I can only think of two words to describe their performance so far - “Lucky” and “Wasteful (of talent)”.

Now we turn our attention to the men up front.
Let’s start with…
Forward Dennis Bergkamp - Tough to be objective about DB10. For starters he’s my favorite active player and second favorite of all time. He’s probably the single reason many ArseAmers are Gooners. After a tough time last season he came back to have a very successful campaign. His role and playing time have been limited, but he is still capable of things few others in the world can do (recall “that” pass to Patrick Vieira). It will be a said day when he hangs them up.
ArseAm...

Ok, today we turn our attention to the midfield.
Let’s start it off with…
Leftwinger Robert Pires - Two seasons ago SuperBob was just on another level prior to his injury. This year he came just about all the way back. 14 goals in the Premiership (just one less than M. Owen), 19 overall. He also had a number of assists. Did you happen to notice how many times Pires was there to bang home a rebound, or ready to slot home a cross from the back post that was just a bit too far for somebody in front of him. The guy just has great instincts.

Now that the season has come to an end and we’ve all had time to take a breath, let’s reflect on the performances that shaped the season. Hopefully the distance of a couple weeks has lent us some objectivity.
Clearly it’s going to be hard to really be critical, the team went undefeated in League for Christ’s sake. But there are always areas to improve or potential problems to be on the lookout for. So, let’s start with the ‘keeper and the defense:

So Arsenal have decided that Sylvain Wiltord and Nwankwo Kanu are surplus to requirements. While I can’t really argue too much with the decisions I must say that I am sorry to see both of them go.
Kanu was certainly a remarkable figure at Highbury. From his first appearance which led to a controversial goal (he didn’t know to kick it back to the opponents after an injury) to his ridiculous hat trick against Chelsea (in the final 17 minutes of the match) Kanu was without doubt one of the most entertaining players of the last several years. You could easily make a 40 minute...

Couple quick items ~ Look for Kanu and Wiltord (to Spurs) to get snatched up soon.
Jill Smith from Arsenal asked me to pass the following information along:
Following a fantastic end to the season, Arsenal FC is coordinating a photography exhibition to run in the North Bank concourse from 16th June for seven weeks.

Ed. Note - This has the potential to be a really fun show. Or the worst 30 minutes in television history. Either way, I’ll certainly be tuning in for the first show…
Those of you who tune into Nick Geiber and Steven Cohen on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings on the radio to hear their views on football or in Steven’s case why Chelsea are inferior to the unbeatable Arsenal will now be able to see this dynamic duo on Fox Sports World from Friday 4th August on a weekly basis as they will be hosting “Fox Football Friday”. From what they’ve told me...
