As long as we are paying respects to the players that have departed the mighty Arsenal recently… I’d like to give a shout out to Kanu.

None of us will ever forget his performance at Stamford Bridge a few years back…. it was truly amazing!! He had alot of great goals for us, and some important ones too! He showed sublime skills at times, but really has not had the chance to get on the pitch enough in the last few years to get the rust off… and old form back.

I hope he proves the critics wrong and has an excellent year for WBA. They are getting a class player...

Ed. Note - Nothing is official yet…

So it is to be?…Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting that terms have been reached between Real Madrid and Patrick Vieira. I have been watching this unfold over the past few weeks and have been surprised by my reaction to it all…ambivalence. Now it appears Paddy’s exit is a foregone conclusion and we’ll all be forced to take a position on where we stand. I for one believe that no man is bigger than the club. Paddy is a huge asset to any side, no doubt, but I find it hard to believe that with $30 million give or take and...

Ed. Note - I don’t always agree with Andez, though I often do. The members don’t always agree with him either. But you have to say this - he always offers a thoughtful opinion and original content, not just a “hey did you see this story (link).” I encourage more members to put forth their opinions as Andez does…

The new player-loaning system (clubs are allowed to loan in and out players within the Premiership) will benefit Arsenal’s cause a great deal in my opinion. Jermaine Pennant is a good example.

To loan out a young player to a Premiership...

After winning the Premiership in remarkable fashion last season Arsenal must surely set their sites this season on winning?the Premiership.

That’s right you heard me, the focus of the club should be on defending their spot as the best team in England. I often read stories saying how Arsenal must now set their sites on Champions League glory ? this is often sited as a way to keep players like Vieira at Arsenal. I think trying to focus on a tournament is risky at best. There are absolutely no guarantees in the Champions League, ask Real Madrid. They slipped farther away from winning...

Razor Ray, the Pele of Romford, was never one of my favorite players. As the Wenger era progressed it became increasingly clear that Ray didn’t fit the mold of a Wenger player.

Nevertheless, it should be noted that Ray served with great loyalty and at times distinction. No one can question his work ethic, desire, effort or love of the Arsenal. I certainly wish him all the best and thank him for his efforts.

Ed. Note - Andez, well said…

During the whole Vieira saga, I admit some of the fans, including myself, may have overreacted, and appeared to have “jumped on Paddy’s back” prematurely without any clear evidence that he’s leaving. But I would also like to add a few words just to defend us, the fans, here.

Yesterday morning I had a sense that things had changed. It seemed that for most of the week things continued to heat up and they reached a boiling point on Thursday.

Then Friday came and the speculation seemed to have died down a bit. Now arsenal.com report that Vieira has arrived for training camp. It’s still possible that Paddy will move on, but now I feel it is more likely that he won’t. I still think he acted in a manner unbecoming for a captain, but I think now that he will stay. Stay tuned over the weekend…

Ed. Note - When I wrote this (and posted it), Vieira was still a Gunner. As you read this that may or may not still be the case…

When Tony Adams retired from Arsenal the captaincy of the club went to Patrick Vieira. In several respects this made sense. As a central midfielder he has to take control of the game and links the forwards and back lines. Also, Patrick is a heck of a player who certainly has the respect of his teammates and other professionals. I?ve never been in the dressing room, but it?s also possible he?s a team leader there as well.

I?ve always felt that part...

Absolute insanity. Here’s the latest rumours:

Vieira - Gone to Madrid
Edu - Wants to go to Barca

Emerson - In
Trabelsi - In
Jeremies -In (loan)

Fact (I think): Arsenal signed French U-21 midfielder Mathieu Flamini.

All/None of these could happen in the next 24-36 hours. Go to BigSoccer for up to the minute speculation and come here for insightful, hard-hitting and well written commentary. Or maybe I’ll write something.
