Henry 1 Vieira 0 Remove the armband from PV4
Jul 21

Absolute insanity. Here’s the latest rumours:

Vieira - Gone to Madrid
Edu - Wants to go to Barca

Emerson - In
Trabelsi - In
Jeremies -In (loan)

Fact (I think): Arsenal signed French U-21 midfielder Mathieu Flamini.

All/None of these could happen in the next 24-36 hours. Go to BigSoccer for up to the minute speculation and come here for insightful, hard-hitting and well written commentary. Or maybe I’ll write something.

Why oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why? Is Arsenal gone mad or being just plain stupid? Yes and don?t tell me Wenger knows best, true that is why he is the boss. Ok, before people start blaming the media as they always do, what the hell is going on at Highbury?

How on earth can they turn down Parlour as I mentioned yesterday after 12 years service. If they can?t even look after Parlour after years of good service I’m not surprise PV4 wants to leave. Please Mr. Wenger the chap deserves better treatment. The club can pay PV4 an extra 30k a week for him to stay. With Edu I’m not even going there. Fool if you think you are playing for a good club why do you want to move.

This is not the Arsenal I joined almost 27yrs ago. Someone has lost the plot and instead of coming out with crazy statement, please Wenger the fans deserves better information. Without the fans Arsenal won?t be Arsenal period.

love_gunner, i don’t really know who Arsenal’s transfer policy exactly work, but from as far as the information i have, ever since the George Graham incident, Arsenal has handled all the transfer negotiation and contract negotiation to the upper management like David Dein. The manager would tell Mr.Dein who they are having in mind on bringing in, and who they wants to keep or let go. The finally decision is not really on the manager’s hand.

AW has publicly stated he wanted to keep Wiltord and Parlour. Wiltord left because he wanted a three year contract yet Arsenal only willing to offer one. Similiar situation as Parlour. And with our transfer budget in a minimum due to the new stadium at the moment, i think the club’s decision can be acceptable. Afterall, we can’t ask for a new stadium, and at the same time, ask for more new players, while also keeping all our existing stars. You have to give in somewhere, either by bringing in less players, or letting go more existing players to establish a balance. From Parlour’s point of view, i think it’s not a bad deal for Ray neither. He got a three years deal he wanted, with a club will play in Euro next season, and he would be more guaranteed to play first team football.

    Andez,
I’m always with you on some issues but as an old school gunner I can’t take this anymore.

    Andez,
You always right on points but today is a very sad day for any true Gooner. Where is Arsenal going??

Where is the good Arsenal tradition. Yes DD always control the transfers but letting Parlour goes is very hard to take in. In my books we have DB10 as the only true Gunner. Wears the red and white with pride and respect.

Yes I know someone talking about Henry and Co. but please 10/20 yrs old football esp. Arsenal was about pirde and these people dont have it period.

Romford Pele you will always be a True Gunner as most fans prove on talk sports/sky today and wishing all the best. Going to drink something b4 I go mad.

Im lucky enough to know Rays brother (believe me or not) and spoke to him yesterday (im living in England, Hornchurch to be precise- home of Tony Adams and Ray Parlour) in a pub called the Chequers, which if you have read Tonys Biography will register as his (ex!) local. We offered Ray a 1 year deal, where as Boro offered him a 3 year 30k a week deal. With his wife problems the Boro deal was best for him and although Ray bleeds Arsenal, it was with a heavy heart that he had decided to leave…it made sense really.

Im sad to see him go, players with as much determination and drive as he are few and far between. In my opinion we have lost one of Arsenals greatest unsung heros of the last decade.

Good luck to Ray, Fingers crossed for Arsenal right now too!

love_gooner, like u, i also have a lot of time on Parlour. He emerged around the same time as Hiller and Selley, yet he’s the only one survived.

Ray’s coming from the old school of Arsenal tradition - loyal, committed, and always fought to the end on the club’s clause. Since Keown’s early departure, he’s the last link from the George Graham era.

To me, Parlour’s best season came on our 97/98 double winning season, he had improved rapidly, and along with Paddy, Manu, Overmars, formed an arguely the best midfield in England.

I do believe this is a deal good for Parlour himself, giving the current transfer market climate, a three years contract for a 30-year-old is not a bad deal. The club needs every penny we can get right now, so 1.7 million pounds would be helpful too. The only shame is Ray couldn’t see out his testimonal season, and allowing the Highbury faithful to pay tributed to one of our most loyal servants over the years.

Good luck to u Ray, I surely would be following Boro’s progress with interest comes next season, as i do with following how Tony’s progress with Wycombe.

  7. Andez Says:

let’s look on the bright side LG, perhaps by letting go Parlour, we will be seeing more action from the young home grown products next season! As i said before, i really believe we will be seeing Pennant more next season. If Ray stays, knowing AW, i believed he would still go for experience than youngsters, Pennant may have to wait even longer…

  8. ScottyUS Says:

Its nice to have a direct line in, here. Little independent ArseAm is truly connected! Thanks for the head’s up.

Ray is one of my favorite Arsenal players of all time, period. Mostly for his loyalty, attitude and hustle. He wanted first team action and needed money badly, and did appear to leave with, as you say, with a heavy heart. There was so much stop and go with his future, I’m sure he feels a little better knowing that he’ll be able to keep his shirt…even if its not a red and white one.

I will continue to follow his career wherever he goes. Cheers to the Romford Pele!

  9. stag133 Says:

How about some cold hard reality!
If Parlour could get a 3 year deal at Boro… Good Luck to Ray. No way he would have gotten 3 years here at Arsenal… nor should he have. He was a good soldier. But, he would be taking playing time away from the young talent that we ALL want to see get some significant playing time. PERIOD.
Good Luck Ray… but its time for Pennant, VanPersie and other young players to play. The future is NOW.

  10. DaveP Says:

Parlour is on his way to M’boro for a 3 year deal, Flamini has signed and for the rest it is uncertain.

From my conversations yesterday it sounds as though Edu will be staying on and we will certainly find out when he returns from the Copa America after this weekend.

Trablesi could be the one in for a physical today as they have called in the doctor for another exame after Flamini went through his on Monday. We will probably know more tomorrow.

Emerson is supposed to be a 13 Million Pound deal and if he come in, along with Edu will keep us strong in the central mid.

    We’ll see what happens.

  11. DaveP Says:

Just wanted to share the latest from Rick B. in Slovenia. He just spoke with Arsene and asked if Vieira would be around this season and Arsene didn’t say anything but shook his head indicating no.

  12. DaveP Says:

Just wanted to correct what I said. When Rick asked Arsene if Vieira would be back this season Arsen shhok his head and told him that he could tell him anything.

This message came in a text from Rick and the first one cuts off and as I put the two together, I realized he didn’t shake his head saying no, but that he couldn’t tell him.

    Sorry for the last post.
