As long as we are paying respects to the players that have departed the mighty Arsenal recently… I’d like to give a shout out to Kanu.
None of us will ever forget his performance at Stamford Bridge a few years back…. it was truly amazing!! He had alot of great goals for us, and some important ones too! He showed sublime skills at times, but really has not had the chance to get on the pitch enough in the last few years to get the rust off… and old form back.
I hope he proves the critics wrong and has an excellent year for WBA. They are getting a class player and person… although I wish he were going to Charlton or Fulham. I am not sure WBA will stay up! He signed a 3 year deal… much like Ray Parlour did…
All the best KANUUUUUUUUUUUU!
Keep flashing that smile and keep that positive attitude. The league needs more players that actually show they are ENJOYING being on the pitch!

In our 2002 double winning season, there was a key match at Anfield. We never beaten Liverpool for the previous 9 years at Anfield… Vieira was injuried… Van Bronkhorst was sent off for “diving” by Paul Durkin… plus the fact we had just fleshed off from a defeat at Highbury to Newcastle due to the sent off of Parlour and a wrongly awarded penalty by Graham Poll… it made the game at Anfield more important and difficult…
Down by 10 men, Wenger pulled Kanu back to midfield, in a unfamiliar defensive midfield role. And to everyone’s surprise, perhaps sparked by the injustice feeling among our camp, the usually laid back Nigerian, rolled up his sleeves and gave us a Vieira-like committed performance in the central of pitch.
We eventually won 2-1, and it proved to be the turning point of our season that year. But Kanu’s performance that day have always left in my memory.
And of course, the first season when he joined us, the way he nutmegged Stam and scored his first goal for us against Man U. Also the stunning back heel goal Vs Boro… And who could forget the last 15 mins hat trick Vs Chelsea, it’s one of our most amazing come backs of the club’s history, and the manner of the game-winning goal… well, simply speechless!
Kanu may not be the most effiective player of Arsenal, but he will definitely be remembered as one of the most entertained players in our history! if i would give him a nickname, i would call him “Magic”! The way he pulled his tricks, with such a tall lanky figure, quite remarkable indeed!

What’s he going to do now???oooOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH Can you believe it!!! He’s flattened Chelsea!! It’s Chelsea 2, Kanu 3!!
It’ll take a long time to forget that effort. Martin Tyler summed it up perfectly.

Kanu is hugely talented. I don’t why he lost form so much, maybe he needed playing time…I dunno. It’s with mixed feelings I watch him leave, he hasn’t done enough to derserved a contract, yet he was - maybe is - SO hugely talented.
I’ll never forget how he destroyed Chelsea. I wish him well. Maybe a run of games is what he needs.

For some reason I am going to miss him a lot. He was once very outstanding (and could still be) but really lost a lot of form the past 2 seasons. Once upon a time when he came on the pitch fans were expecting something special from him, and a lot of the times he responded.
Hope he does well with WBA.

It was good to see Kanu given a leadership role for the young Nigerian team during the African Cup of Nations this year. He ended their 3rd place campaign with a thigh injury, but he was instrumental in their success..and The Arsenal’s success.
Good luck, Nwanku. See you on the pitch.

In 34 years of visiting Highbury I cannot think of many more skilful players than the big Nigerian. He was by no way near the best player we have had but there is no doubting his ball skills were breathtaking. In the first few months when AW bought him I can honestly say that some of the things he attempted, and in most cases succeeded in doing were out of this world. The drag-backs, the dumbys, it was fair to say that even his own teammates were not sure what he was going to do next and I think this was his downfall, he was never really a team player. He would always try the unexpected, sometimes not realizing or not wanting to realize he had a teammate in a better position than him. His speed was quite deceptive in fact he was a lot slower than he looked, sometimes being a good 10 yards off the pace, but we loved him all the same and the cry of Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! will live on for many a year.
Good luck big man and I hope you get the apperception from the Baggies fans that your skills deserve.
