Most would have seen the post match interview where TH14 sung the praises of DB10 and his words have been well publicized in the press since, but not all of them and it?s what hasn?t been mentioned since that I am intrigued about.
If you have taped the match and you have the full interview play it back again and see what Thierry says about Dennis and the captains? armband. After saying how well he played and being more like a 20 year old than 35, he points to the armband and says ?maybe this is why he is playing so good. Maybe he will keep it for a long time?. Now this part of the interview has not been mentioned since, why.
Could cracks be appearing in the Thierry/Patrick relationship? Is this a sideways swipe by Henry at Veira for what he did in the summer and maybe he feels that he does not deserve the armband back because he has lost the respect of some of the team? Were the rumors about Patrick falling out with Thierry and Bobby during Euro 2004 true? Or is my reading of this way off the mark? I hope it?s the last because I have this very lovely picture of all our players really getting on well, especially the French boys. I have this image of them meeting up every morning in Hampstead for a Coffee and reading the French papers together before going of to training (but I also have this image that they are my mates and they come round my house every Friday to watch DVD?s?..don?t ask).
I would be interested to know if anyone else heard the remark and what they think?

Tea?!?!!
Why do we need to get this debate raging again…
You’re gonna get the PV haters all up in a lather about how he is an evil cancer to the team and all the other rubbish…
If Arsene wants him here, what else do you need to know?? Vieira will be wearing the captain’s band, and even if he isn’t… who cares.
Let’s concentrate on all the positives that are going on … like 43 consecutive without a defeat…. and a clean sheet for the Arsenal.
Invincible.

I did watch the interview as well (with full content). But I guess it’s just a tribute Titi paid to Dennis. Right after such a thrilling match, when everyone’s emotion was in such a high, I don’t think Henry would careful plan and imply anything in a routine post-match interview. Frankly, I don’t believe all 20+ members of the squad would love each other like brothers, but what it matters is when they step onto the pitch, they work hard towards one common goal - to win. So far i haven’t seen anything it suggests otherwise.
Let’s don’t get the press reports fooling us again. Henry and Pires had a brust up during training? Well, when we play the street soccer/basketball pick up game, wouldn’t we sometimes have a little brust up even with our best buddies?… Henry and Reyes did not like playing with each other? Umm.. then why would Titi supplied an easy tap in for Reyes to score against Blackburn when Henry himself was also in a scoring position?…

I watch part of the interview but I have to agree with you that it has to do more with the heighten emotion of coming from behind to beat Boro more than anything else. In anycase, Bergkamp deserved the accolades as he was the prime mover behind Arsenal’s recovery and Henry recognized that.
Don’t forget that it was reported that when Viera decided against going to Real Madrid, he called Henry first to tell him of his late decision before going over to Le Boss home (Dein was there as well having dinner) to break the news. Pires is absolutely delighted with Viera staying on and I think we know Henry and Pires are very close off the pitch. Don’t forget last season in the game against ManU when Henry scored that scorcher of a goal after getting a return pass from Reyes, he was shown on TV pushing off Reyes hand during the celebrations - and suddenly, there were reports of unease between Reyes and Henry. Well guess what, Reyes considers Henry to be one of his best pals away from the game in London.
If anything else, I think this entire Viera episode will make Viera a much more determined and stronger performer for Arsenal as he would want to prove to his teammates, to Wenger and most importantly, to the fans that he is a loyal Arsenal man. When he holds the EPL and Euro Championship trophies at the end of the season, all his summer distractions will be forgotten and forgiven!!

Agreed guys, I just wanted some reassurances that I wasn?t hearing something else in his comments.
I had my doubts but I can already feel the love for PV coming back. His name was sung last night during the game at least 3 times (which it wasn?t on Sunday), but not as load as the new song we have.
(sung to the Vieira tune)
Fabrigas wooooooo,
Fabrigas wooooooo,
He?s only 17
He?s better than Roy Keane

I strongly agree with u on the last point - Paddy is a determined boy, now with an extra incentive to win over the fans, like u, i expect he’s going to get even better!

Great song…
I think it was sharp to point out the comment. I find it hard to believe that Henry would tip his hand to the evil media, but perhaps in his joy he let loose something that may be in the back of his mind. In the end, I think they’ll all be in the business of winning. One thing is for sure more than ever right now…The Arsenal is bigger than any one player, captain or no captain. With the possible exception of DB10, but we won’t get into that.
Now if he had his arm around Cesc, saying he hopes to see more of him this year…

What that is really about is who gets the Captain’s armband when Dennis the captain gets subbed after 70 minutes like he did last night
August 26th, 2004 at 11:46 am
Because Henry is already a leader in his own right, I’d say Ashley. He’s not going anywhere.
I was also wondering if DB10 would be out of contention for the arm band come the Panithanaikos away fixture. I assume he has methods of getting to PSV. Forgive my ignorance if there’s a chunnel, bridge or ferry I don’t know about.

Dennis gave the armband to Henry when he went off and the smile of his face filled the stadium. He spent about 5 minuets adjusting it and making sure it looked right, he seemed very proud.

Sorry I forgot to add that it?s the channel tunnel, so DB can get to the PSV game but not the others, as the distance is too far and AW has often said in the past that he would not be in the right physical shape to play after traveling so many hours by road.

You know, during the whole Vieira transfer saga, I got to the point where I no longer cared whether he stayed or left. But even at that ultimate stage of disinterest, I never gave him stick. I was really annoyed when Santini, in order to play up to his new Tottenham fans, said that Henry and Pires fought during training, thus costing France their chance cos they could no longer train as they wanted to. I was further flabbergasted when press reports said that the Arsenal players in the French team had ganged up on Zidane in order to force him out as Captain. Now I have to put up with the same crap from Arsenal fans?!! Bergkamp is the Captain now because Vieira is injured. When Paddy returns, he will collect his armband back. I’m surprised teabag didnt suggest we break out the tar and feathers!!
