1. I feel there has been too much emphasis on the role of Rio Ferdinand. Last season, whenever you heard people talking about the reasons of Man Utd’s failure, the word “Rio” was always mentioned. Ironically, I don’t believe there ever was a time Rio had been valued so high as when he was serving the ban. The bottom line is - if Man Utd really relies on one single player THAT much, they are in bigger trouble…

In addition to the terrific submissions we get here at Arsenal America Headquarters, we also get a ton of email. Quite frankly we can?t answer it all so we?ve enlisted the services of some of the greats from the game. Please know that these are actual letters, no editing, that I have received.

With reference to Pennant, I am not doubting his ability and I am sure if he played at White Shite Lane he would be in their team every week because their expectations are that much lower than ours, but as the song goes ?We are the Arsenal and we are the best?.? So we expect better.

I know on a personal note that his attitude is not what it should be for a top flight player in today?s game. It?s common knowledge in North London clubs that he acts like a Big Time Charlie Bananas, giving it the big ?I am?. He and Ashley are often seen out together and whereas Ashley will be standing near...

One weekend does not a season make. So much can happen between August and May, but yet some trends do emerge from the first weekend.

While the man who writes off Manchester United does so at his own peril, this could be a tough year for them. By the time they get everyone healthy and playing together it?s possible that Arsenal and Chelsea will have put too much space between them and United. I?m not sure if Man U has the quality of depth right now to fight on multiple fronts. Oh, they?ll still win far more than they lose, but I think they might be looking at third again rather than first,...

Having just watched the Everton game I can say that the man Arsene has done it again in unearthing a gem in Fabregas, how does he keep on doing it? This kid is 17 years old but he looked like a man on that pitch. He has a great first touch, his passing is excellent and he is not afraid to take people on. I know that Everton were no great shakes but they had a midfield of seasoned professionals like Gravesen and Carsley and Fabregas did not look out of place. I think we have potentially a great midfielder and this could have been the reason why Arsene was willing to take the gamble and let PV4...

It’s been quite an eventful couple of days in the EPL. First came the news that Patrick Vieira was staying, quickly followed by the news that Michael Owen was leaving. The first weekend of the season meant it was finally time to get down to business. A lot to discuss, so lets’ get right down to it.

Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool. Who won, who lost? Arsenal certainly were winners, they kept an influential member of the core that has produced what could go down as one of the great teams in English (not European) football. As for Real Madrid, did they win or lose? They got Michael...

I was going to post an open letter to our captain this morning, a little light hearted dig at his foolishness this summer. So I get up, make coffee, and sit down with a fag (Ed. Note - That’s a cigarette, not a former New Jersey Gov.) in front of NewsNow - this has become an unwelcome morning ritual for the last month or so, strange that, cos I kind of remember doing the same last year, and the year before that, and? ho hum? So, anyway, expecting to read that he?s left us for a superstar circus of a football club, I scan the top stories only to read absolutely nothing new what so ever....

So Paddy is staying afterall. I believe the majority of Arsenal fans would share a mix reaction to his staying - we would all (or most of us) love to have him staying (as Stag put it, I too got no complain to have the world’s BEST midfielder staying with our club); yet at the same time we feel being let down by his half heart loyality towards the club we love.

Either way, the FACT that he’s staying, in my opinion, will go on to prove as a significant turning point of Arsenal’s short term, most importantly, long term future.

Alright, PV’s been monopolizing ArseAm ad nauseum. His “deciding” to stay isn’t the only interesting thing happening at our club, or in the World Football arena, either.

So in the interest of a break here, it may be fun to jump off the Gunnerwagon and talk about football in general. In particular, Portugal’s defeat by the Iraqui’s in the Olympics, and the Dallas Burn changing their name to Dallas FC.

First of all, the Iraqui people really need this right now. There is an unbelievable story here, with these ad hoc athletes managing to scrape...

Everton FC were one of the bigwigs of English football and helped to create the Premiership in the early 90’s. Now, it would seem, that they have become one of the minnows of the league and maybe set for relegation. Inner turmoil in the offices, as underlings try to force out management, has related to poor decisions around the pitch. Season 2003-04 saw the campaign end with 4 straight defeats, including a 5-1 beating at the hands of Man City. The club secured 17th place and survived another year but will this be the season we see the mighty Toffees relegated to the first division?
