The Arsenal: In a League of Their Own?

Ed. Note – This is now a tad old, but ScottyUS took the time to put together a well reasoned submission, so here’s some Sunday reading for you…

Arsenal 0 ? 2 Old Style English Football.

We were never going to get it together on Sunday. I had that feeling from kickoff. I knew we were going to be beaten and bruised, and fail to live up to our brand of spirited and beautiful football because, for the most part, we don’t have Plan B: kick ‘em back.

Why? Wenger refuses to “lower his standards” and endanger his players by allowing them to resort to what he sees as distasteful thuggery. But I think only he, DD, and a few others see it that way. His major complaint? ManU and Riley failed to support and maintain the “correct spirit” of the game. If you ask me, he’s right. But I’m a Gooner.

Arsenal 2 -2 Soton

Down 2-1 to Southampton with 5 minutes to go, it didn’t look good. R. van Persie gets the equaliser with about 20 seconds left.

Cesc was brought on at the 6-5 minute mark, score 0-0. Arsenal score two goals once he is on the pitch. Loyal readers have heard me say it before, I’ll say it again: Cesc = Goals. He is quickly making himself one of the most influential, important players on this team.

Arsenal missed a penalty and once again could have scored several goals late, but let the opportunities slip away.

The Saints or the “ain’ts” ?

I don’t know how prevalent the slang “ain’t” is in the conversations around the world but it’s part of Kentucky’s everyday vernacular. Used for the contraction, isn’t, it was also the new nickname of the New Orlean Saints. The Saints of the American NFL were so bad in the 1980′s that their fans began to wear paper bags on their heads and referred to their club as the “New Orlean Aints”. Southampton is so bad that I can see the practice being ressurected across the pond.

The ArseAm content has been intense so for the members lack of time I will keep it short. Ormerod was the spark and general of this squad but injury has kept him from his game. Fernandes, I thought, would be the creative genius that would keep the Saints in the top 10, but he has failed to come through. The midfield is so disorganized that not even James Beattie is given opportunities to score, he has just 2 goals. I really thought that Kevin Philips would make a difference but he has just disappeared when he’s needed.
