Ed. Note - Well, sorry to say, it looks like the season is over. I just read the following piece and, quite frankly, Arsenal will be lucky to avoid the drop this season. The grains of truth are overwhelmed by unneeded negativity. I come out looking like Stag compared to this member…

Lots for AW to think about this Christmas, also lots to think about for fans, there have been a lot of interesting points doing the rounds at the various arsenal blogs/websites including this one, ranging from Reyes to Almunia and ofcourse, Chelsea!

Defensive midfielder is not the most enjoyable position to play. Ask any football player, if they have choice, everyone would want to be a striker who scores goal, or a wing wizard who could work magic with his footwork. Being a defensive midfielder, you would have to run your socks off chasing the loose ball, stopping the opposition. In other words - doing the “dirty work” which no one else enjoys doing. So often they come away without any credit. But it would be even worse when they are labelled as “lazy” after 90 minutes hard work.

Just been reading the matchday programme of the Boxing Day clash with Fulham where I saw the following piece about the ArseAmers who crossed over the pond last month…………

Reserve North London Derby
It was great to see supporters clubs from Arsenal Japan, Arsenal America and Arsenal Malta enjoying a visit to Barnet for the exciting Arsenal v Tottenham Reserve match earlier this month. They swelled the crowd as the Gunners second string ran out 2-1 victors.

Ed. Note - This smacks of self-indulgence, but I think it’s kind of cool that that way-too-big banner is travelling across the country…

Just wanted to let all Southern California based Gooners that the Arsenal America banner will be making appearances at The Fox and Hounds, 11100 Ventura Blvd, Studio City this coming week when Gary Richards (owner) will have it displayed during the Newcastle and Charlton games that will be televised. So come on down with your cameras and get your pix taken with the official flag of Arsenal America. For directions on how to get there and...

Ed. Note - I’m an Edu fan, but yeah, I agree with most of this post. Though I always thought GvB was talented and his play at Barca shows this. He just wasn’t a good fit for the Arsenal…

So why are we hearing nightly about the ongoing saga of Edu’s contract negotiations? I like him, he’s been a nice replacement player for the boys when they were low. He has even scored some nice goals for us. But is he nightly newsworthy? Look at the midfielders we have now. RP7, FL8, PV4, FF15, GS19, etc… When you are being replaced by a 17 year old, albeit a...

I guess I was right all along. A lot of you doubted that Almunia would be in the squad for a prolonged period of time, in favor of Lehmann. Even though Almunia hasn’t been the best goalkeeper ever, there is now a more relaxed feeling in the Arsenal squad. He has made his mistakes but has learned from them and I for one am proud of him. I think Almunia has been given a lot of stick, but he has come through and is improving every match. I suppose Wenger bought him for a reason, eh?!?!

Its been kinda depressingly quiet around here, which is kind of alarming since The Arsenal played like the Champions they are on Boxing Day. Patrick Vieira seemed to benefit, as we all did, from Wenger’s inspirational comments regarding his importance to the club. Henry tied a record for the club, and Freddie announced his return by transferring his headache to the Cottagers by getting behind their defenses and under their skin. Another clean sheet for Almunia, and things are starting to look pretty splendiforously familiar around The Home of Football.

So I will assume that we’re...

First I’d like to wish you all a Happy Festivus, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and a very merry Boxing Day. May you get those boxes to the garbage without ruining an entire bank holiday. Due to these blessed events I will be unable to write previews for both matches individually so my gift to you is a combined preview. My gift? So you don’t feel obligated to read my rubbish twice in one week. Also, I’m keeping it short.
