After the buzz wears off and the hangover sets in, it is easy to forget about the next opponent. Especially when that club is without a manager and is mired in mediocrity, like Pompey. They have managed to improve their form over last season and are quietly poised to give the Gunners a run.
Portsmouth sit at 10th with a 6-5-6 record. Middle of the road in scoring and middle of the road in defense, they remind me of a “Seinfeld” episode where everything just evens out for Jerry. Things just even out for Pompey.
Certainly the biggest news from Portsmouth is the departure...

Yes, it is indeed holiday season. What are you going to get the Gooner in your life? Well, once again Arsenal America is here to help. You will of course recall that we’ve already suggested some great Arsenal books from our friends at Hamlyn Publishing and those high quality Arsenal calendars from Danilio.
But perhaps your tastes run more to the video end of the spectrum. Well, we’ve got two, count ‘em two, items to let you know about. The...

So Henry finished fourth for the Ballon D’Or. In fact, his all around performances and record breaking statistics in the toughest league in Europe where he has played for an UNBEATEN team has yet to land him football’s gaudiest looking trophy. And this year he is only as good as fourth behind such proven talents as Schevchenko, Deco and Ronaldinho. Hmmm…
Okay, he is in very good company. No question. And perhaps his failure to recreate his EPL form internationally has hurt him, considering that votes are cast throughout the many leagues among individuals that probably...

Ed. Note - Normally I don’t worry too much about stuff like this, but in this case it does raise an interesting point. I doubt that the club will think, or care, about this. The obvious answer is to make sure the away/change strip is yellow, as it should be…
Picture the scene, CL game at Ashburton Grove and we are required to wear the away kit (it happens sometimes). It’s the unpopular, unsuccessful blue shirt. It bears the name of our new sponsor “Fly Emirates”. Nuff said.
Do we really want the fans who support that small club in Fulham to ask “Are...

Man it was cold. That biting English wet cold you read about that gets down under your skin. As I walked around the grounds, I saw the touts shivering, the trinket passing out babes in scantily clad clothes bouncing up and down, and a large crowd gathered around the meat patty truck willing to endure the smells for just a wee bit of warmth.
But that all changed as I entered the stadium….

Within a season or so I predict Cesc will be the best central midfielder in Europe. So maybe it’s time to start planning for this.
Vieira, by contrast, is not the player he was. Partly his poor form can be explained by the absence of Gilberto: Paddy needs a holding midfielder behind him; he doesn’t thrive on having to do the lion’s share of the defensive work on his own. But I’m not convinced it’s the whole explanation. Vieira is getting older; his ambition is perhaps not as fierce as it was; maybe the decision not to move to Real has in some intangible...

The draw against Chelsea is the typical reflection of how our season gone so far - we could always manage to score in a sensational manner, yet all the attacking players’ effort were being wiped off by some sloppy defensive displays. Yet again, another two goals conceded directly or indirectly from set-pieces.
The reason I hate to see us conceding from set-pieces most of all is that it really kills the morale. Particularly, giving the way we scored our goals - most of the goals we scored this season so far were nothing short of the result of a great team play, or individual...

Wow, What a game today! Very impressed with how Arsenal played this difficult game! With Viera, Ljunberg, Edu and Silva out plus the confidence struggles since the man u match, a draw iis well taken. I also think that we could have won the match with Henry and Von Persie coming so close to scoring towards the end. Still a draw should do wonders in reestablishing the team’s confidence and we are very much in the thick of the race!

Frank Simek just dropped us a note…
It was cool to meet up with all the Arsenal America people. Danny (Karbassiyoon) and I really enjoyed it. They picked a good reserve game to come and see. I think that was the best crowd for a reserve game I’ve ever played in front of. They even started a few chants. Anyway, thanks for your guys’ support, Danny and I really appreciate it.
About QPR (Ed. Frank did a loan spell at the Div. 1 club), it was a really good experience for me. I played five games for them and it was good to get out and see what the “real...

Sunday’s Chelsea match is a CRUCIAL match for us, make no mistake of it. Surely, it’s still early. Surely, we had come back from a 12-point deficit and beat United to the title at 98. Man Utd had recoverd from an 11-point deficit to beat Newcastle a couple years early as well. But this season is different…
I never rated Chelsea as a team, be it under Vialli or Ranieri. They were always a SPENDING team, and they spent BIG. Nevertheless, even with all their big name stars, I always believed they would crack and the bubble would brust at some stages, and they DID....
