Big match this weekend, eh? If that’s not the understatement of the year. Not only the ability to make up ground in the table but to sound a cannon across the bow of the league. Chelsea now appear to have the same arrogance as their manager and as soon as the Gunners put themselves in second, it’s as if we’ve disappeared. So here’s the chance to make a big step in re-establishing the Arsenal where they belong….. the top of the table.

Convincing wins against Birmingham City and Rosenborg are just what the team needed - solid, confidence building performances. This weekend will be a much sterner test. If both sides were at full strength I would certainly fancy Arsenal’s chances, but with a depleted midfield it’s going to take something special for Arsenal to win this one.

If only the Gunners had a special player… wait, Arsenal has about half a dozen special players who are capable of being match winners. Raise your hand if you’ve seen Bergkamp, Henry or Pires almost singlehandedly win games,...

Well the first stage of the Champions League is over with us making what was hard of an easy group. The draw for the knock-out phase is next Friday, and it looks like we’ll either be drawn against a Spanish or German side in the next round as they have between them four of the possible five second place teams we can face…………

Real Madrid
Bayern Munich
Barcelona
Werder Bremen

The other side we could face is Porto formerly managed by Mourinho.

I’d be quite happy with either Werder Bremen or Porto myself, but as the saying...

I am usually a Wenger-believer, but something he has said lately I beg to be different.

“I am a great believer in Manuel Almunia’s potential. I just feel that he’s playing under such a big pressure that he’s not really himself. It’s very difficult for him”. Said Wenger when being asked if he would stick with Almunia for the Chelsea match.

But wait a minute here… isn’t handling PRESSURE supposed to be the bread and butter of a goalkeeper’s game? And playing Man Utd at the Carling Cup [nick named Worthless Cup] I wouldn’t...

Ok, let’s not get too carried away. Rosenborg is by no means a first-class European opponent, and they had nothing to play for in the game. But, I still draw a great satisfaction from the match, not just the result, but also the WORKRATE and DESIRE we had showed.

Henry was top class in this particular match, he was really up for it, working hard for the team’s cause. Something I had long been hoping for from our ace striker. For once, he truely rose to the occassion when it mattered.

This is your correspondent reporting live (well, almost) from the suburbs of North West London. I told the Rosenburg lad at the Tbird that we’d win 3-0. I had the right idea, but 5-1′ll do nicely. Not only the win, but as Rick said, top of the group. Not sure what that buys us though, since some pretty decent teams finished second in their groups. But at this stage of the competition there are no easy games.

A terrific display by the lads tonight and goals from Reyes (at last!), Henry, Fabregas, Pires and van Persie and solid performances from everyone. Van Persie caught...

A 5-1 thrashing of Rosenborg sees Arsenal advance (and win the Group!). For all the hand-wringing, Arsenal didn’t lose one game in this Stage, the same can’t be said for Chelsea or Liverpool.

The first squad seems to be clicking (welcome back Sol) with eight goals in the last two games.

The win concludes a successful trip for the ArseAmers who went undefeated. Stay over there guys!

Now it’s to the weekend and a titanic match-up with Chelsea.

2-1 to the Arsenal (thanks to a “not paying attention” goal in the 90th minute) after a bad back pass from Simek, Wright in Goal kicked it upfield only to see it bounce off some Sp*rs git and back into the net. 10 of us from AA standing on the opposite side from the Main Stand watching a match on a pitch that’s on a grade (probably 20 feet higher on one end than the other) fortunately we won the toss so got run downhill in the second half. Jill Smith was her usual magic lady and arranged to have us hang around long enough (and believe me they wanted to boot us out) to meet...

Greetings all. This is Dave Connick reporting from an unusually gray and slightly foggy London. We have a good representaion of arsenalamericans over here from the USA and Canada and we’ve even got one punter named Andrew coming in on Tuesday from Hong Kong!

Many of the road trippers, like myself, arrived on Friday and a number of the gang were treated to the tour of THOF on Friday afternoon followed by a trip round the corner to our adopted liquid refreshment purveyors at the T Bird pub on Blackstock Road. A great way to start the proceedings.

On Saturday morning Bob...
