A Plea for the Masses! Bayern Preview
Feb 20

This is why they play the games. On paper, Arsenal v. Sheffield United isn’t that much of a match. But when Arsenal field two players over 25, and one of them, DB10 is shown a red card, things can get crazy.

Arsenal should have held on for a 1-nil win, but Senderos was somewhat unfortunate to get called for a handball in the box - in the 89th minute.

1-1 and we are looking at a replay.

Could be worse, we could have lost like Chelsea did on Sunday. The quadruple dream ended when Mourinho’s tactical wizardry bit him in the arse. Newcastle won 1-0 over a 9-man Chelsea side. Down 1-0 at half, Mourinho threw in 3 subs at the break. Two minutes into the 2nd half Wayne Bridge picked up an injury, but they had no subs left. Cudicini got sent off at the end.

The only reason for the youth in the squad is the crucial game in Munich on Tuesday.I think Mourinho had the same idea but their players couldn’t get anything going for them. I think Wenger will probably field a stronger side next time.

Sometimes it turns out worse when you’re drawn against a lower division team. You have to expect things to get chippy. What do SUFC (I’m sure there should be a ‘K’ in there somewhere) have to lose. We lose DB10 & might lose JAR9 for the face slap that wasn’t seen. We were lucky none of our players got hurt (word is Bridge might have a broken ankle).

It’s not so much the fact we have to play another game, but I don’t want to give them another chance to ‘Wayne Bridge’ TH14 or work on PV4’s temperment.

Wenger did the right thing by resting key players for the BM game. I thought the boys did enough to win the game. Tons of possession and goal attempts only to be thwarted by an in-form Sheffield keeper. Other than the disallowed goal, Sheffield could only threaten from set-pieces. It is going to be tougher against Sheffield at their home ground - Wenger may decide to field a stronger team. Other than the unlucky hand-ball, I thot Sendoros played well. He recovers very quickly but can do with more upper body mass to handle the more physical strikers.

Chel$ki’s exit from FA cup could affect their confidence in the EPL. Manure are the in-form team to take advantage of that. With Bridge hit by a suspected broken ankle, does this mean Cole will *really* be heading to Chel$ki in the summer?!

What concerns me is the way we gave the goal away at the end when the bald headed brainless wonder (Cygan) decided to play a short ball to Fabregas who had a Sheff Utd player right on him instead of playing the ball deep into the corner! From this nimrod’s act of stupidity we gave away a needless corner that resulted in them getting a penalty!
I for one will be glad to see the back of this bald headed jerk when he gets kicked out of N5 come the end of the season!

Danny Karbassiyoon has a really nice article on soccernet.

I read a comment from Tony Adams after he left Arsenal that Wenger prefers his defenders to pass the ball than to try and boot it into oblivion. It is the finesse vs brute-force thing. I believe that was one reason why Upson never got the nod over Cygan.

Thanks for the info. Thank god there’s not a ‘Stupid Idiot’ feature because that last message I left merrits the label!

Not unusual to trace a conceded goal back to Cygan, but to his defense he has been pretty adept at passing out lately and rarely gets it wrong. Of course, when he does, its at absolutely the worst time with the worst results. I would say he was unlucky if he wasn’t still playing for AFC.

Speaking of replacing him, did you happen to see the Fox segment on Vincent Kompany of Anderlecht? He’s the Belgian player of the year originally from Africa, and is a tremendous defender who can play anywhere. I think he’s 18. Sounds like Wenger bait to me.

Read about Kompany but had not seen him in action. With Campbell becoming more injury prone, it is time to invest for the future. Sendoros with a bit more big game experience should be in Wenger’s long term plan. Edelmann has said there are funds for Wenger to bring in new players so lets see how he spends it in the off-season. I would prefer to go for King as Campbell’s eventual replacement even though I believe he will cost alot more than Kompany.

So Cesc gives the ball away and you want to blame Cygan? Did Cygan pull Senderos’ hand up too? Cygan actually played a good match. Rewatch the game.
Yes, and I suppose it was Vieira’s fault that Bergkamp got sent off.

Forget the match. Forget scapegoating the same players over and over. Cesc didn’t exactly have a good match.

Folks just keep scapegoating the same players.
