Here?s a question: Does Arsenal have a coach that works with the defense? Here in the States, pro football teams have head coaches and offensive and defensive coordinators. Is there something similar in European football?

I think Arsene Wenger is a great ?head coach? and has a good ?offensive? mind, but clearly we need help with the defense.

Ed. Note - Sorry this should have gone up earlier, but it was a nice effort by a member who put a lot of time into his thoughts. Discuss…

Its got to be one of the cups, its our only chance to get some salvation this season. As much as i hate to admit it, i dont share the optimism of some of the other members on this site about finishing 2nd in the EPL. This is end of season, this is Manure’s bread and butter, they hardly ever drop points towards the end of the season and chelsea are too far ahead for anything to happen (would have been very different were they still just 5...

After an abysmal performance in Munich is everything gloom and doom? Well, yes certainly, if we play like this again.

But let’s keep in mind the fact that we need to win the second leg by the same score, 2-0, as we would have needed if we had lost only 1-0. Which is another way of looking at how crucial was the away goal.

In 1970 we lost 3-1 away to Anderlecht in the first leg of the final of the Fairs (now UEFA) cup. It was 3-0 before Ray Kennedy got a very late goal for us. At Highbury, in one of those unforgettable evenings, we won 3-0 with goals from Kelly, Radford...

Just heard from Kelvin who’s with the other 3600 Gooners in Munich for the CL match. They’re in a Beer Keller conducting a mullet search. So far they’ve seen 15, all wearing jean jackets complete with Status Quo badges!

Keep the faith.

ESPN.com’s Soccernet features a nice piece on one of Arsenal’s Americans, 19-year-old Danny Karbassiyoon…

“That’s a big jump for a kid who, admittedly, was in awe of his teammates after moving to Highbury, where Arsenal brought him straight into training with the likes of Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole. “I just got there the day before preseason. The preseason - everyone’s together. They don’t break up really until the season starts. So we’re all together, and it’s a really, really...

Bayern are the Chelsea of the Bundesliga, a monstrous vacuum cleaner that every summer goes around the league scooping up everyone else’s best players - Lucio from Bayer being a typical recent example. Fortunately this tactic doesn’t always secure them the title (though mostly it does). Domestically so far this season they’ve done well: won 13, drawn 5, lost 4, with 44 goals scored and 23 conceded. Particularly impressive in defence. Currently they’re top of the league, having just thrashed Dortmund - I’m sorry to tell you - 5-0 (Makaay 3, Salihamidzic 1, Pizarro...

This is why they play the games. On paper, Arsenal v. Sheffield United isn’t that much of a match. But when Arsenal field two players over 25, and one of them, DB10 is shown a red card, things can get crazy.

Arsenal should have held on for a 1-nil win, but Senderos was somewhat unfortunate to get called for a handball in the box - in the 89th minute.

1-1 and we are looking at a replay.

Could be worse, we could have lost like Chelsea did on Sunday. The quadruple dream ended when Mourinho’s tactical wizardry bit him in the arse. Newcastle won 1-0 over a 9-man...

The UEFA Champion’s League knock-out stages are upon us. I can’t remember this many mouth-watering match-ups… in one round. Alas, most of us won’t get to see these fantastic ambassadors for the game we love. Its a damned shame.

ESPN Deportes.
Is there anyone out there that has this channel?
Does anyone know about it… if its on a certain cable network? If its available on some satellite package? I can’t seem to get info on it.
On the ESPN site…. they show TV LISTINGS buried somewhere down the page.

As all our jealous rivals try to defame the club it may be a good time to remember the kind of standards Arsenal set under Arsene Wenger and the current directors.

I guess it would be easy to just thrust a 4-0 or 5-1 scoreline on you and look to the next round. After watching Arsenal dismantle Palace and United squeek by West Ham it would be tempting to do so. Add to the mix that it’s a match at Highbury and it’s easy to look ahead. These matches are played on the weekend though and not on the pages of the internet, so here’s to the Gunners playing hard and taking care of business.

United are a South Yorkshire club who play their home matches at Bremmel Lane (I hope I spelled that right.) They currently sit 8th in the Championship...
