FA CUP IN MEXICO Together We Stand!
May 02

During the last few months we have all heard reports of players leaving the club. That does not mean that we have not been linked with other players.

But I want to mention three players in question: Edu, Reyes and Cole.

I just saw the report, that Mourinho does not want cole anymore. Though I am relieved to hear that, I would rather much more prefer cole saying that he doesn’t want to leave arsenal. We may have a world class player but he is no good if his heart lies somewhere else.

The two interesting cases are reyes and edu.I have seen that we have resigned ourselves to the fact that edu is leaving. But i think edu is underrated.I really do.Yes,fabregas has come along brilliantly with flamini, but i do think edu’s game has that extra thing as compared to flamini.

But in midfield what we need is someone to control the game someone who can step into viera’s shoes, when he might have a lengthy absence.I do think fabregas is not ready for that yet.The question is Edu the person who can marshall the midfield?? I think he has not been given sufficent time to prove himself.Besides,he brings that continental approach which might help us in Champions league.

And reyes,i just think he needs time to sort out his finishing and confidence. How many times Le Boss has been correct?Countless….so let’s trust his judjement on this one.

Frankly, I would rather we keep Edu.He plays well alongside Gilberto, and that was the future partnership that I’ve hoped to see post-Vieira.

Edu has the ability to read the game and hold the ball in midfield well, a skill would come in handy in European games.

I don’t suppose that both of them play alongside each other for Brasil right..

  2. DannyT Says:

It is obvious that the penny STILL has not dropped with some of you. The fact is that no matter how much you want Edu & Reyes to stay, and no matter what they can and cannot do for Arsenal, the situation is totally out of Arsenal’s control.

Both players want to leave and WILL leave at the end of the season, there is nothing more to be said other than who can replace them. So why not talk about that, rather than pointless posts about what they might to do next season?

  3. USMartin Says:

Have to agree with DannyT that the club is powerless if players WANT to go nowadays unless they decide to forgo money in favor of principle….*Yawn*……*SIGH*…….oh, sorry, then but maybe the Beckham thing makes sense if you consider Reyes best position was wide left behind Henry. I felt he would only be up-front next year when Henry was out or rested on the bench….*YAWN*……oh, sorry, again, but if Reyes is determined to go perhaps then you use Freddie both left and right with Pires, Beckham, and David Bentley. Still if Reyes does stay - either way I think a new more potent aerial and box striker is needed and will arrive, we will be tremendously deep and versatile in our attack, so as much as Jose has frustrated and disappointed of late if he is willing he is more than welcome to stay…

Reyes is not a sure thing yet, I don’t think. Everyone is so cocksure he’s gone, but I won’t start talking replacing him until we’ve heard something definitive. Wenger’s already covering his a** by saying it was the cold, the lack of sunshine, edgey fashion and double decker buses, blah, blah, blah, etc. Besides, he needs to net today and if he leads the charge for us taking the second spot and the Cup, a whole lot may change. No Henry, hurray Jose.

And Cole’s trial will make things interesting this month. With his case being Bosmanesque in scale, he may just eff off to Juve or something. I think how we finish will have a lot to do with how the whole thing tastes in our mouths and any decisions by our manager. And that’s what’s important to me, that regardless of how happy these guys profess to be, Wenger holds the gavel. The good news is we’ll recoup enough for them to be replaced if that’s the case. One can’t take it, one wants it all. Sigh.

Edu is gone. Again, if Flamini plays like a man possessed in the next few weeks, our manager may think we’re good there. Something tells me he already thinks that, and is making comments to the good. He won’t ask them to save our season and then put them in the stands when they do.

All in all, we need to win the remainder of our games and without Freddie and Henry there’s plenty of opportunity for the likes of Reyes, Flamini, and DB10 to dictate where they’ll be next season and in what capacity.

Incidentally, Pennant is tearing it up at B. City. I blame Cole if he hurts us down the road. Why? Cause both of ‘em are spiteful, selfish twits, that’s why.

  5. ScottyUS Says:

I agree that Wenger may go with a good crosser and a guy with springs in the box. S’what tees me off so much about Pennant. Maybe he didn’t get enough time, but when the laundry’s laid out he deserved what he got. Seems he’s playing like a man with a new lease on life, which in a way he is. Time will tell if he’s got the character to hold it.

And the idea of having another crossing, free kick, set-piece specialist is the only thing that makes me take a second look at this Beckham noise. But he’s playing the game that every big name is playing with a few mortgages to think about: “I love it here and want to see my career out with my current club. Of course its flattering…”

A lot is in the balance in the next couple of weeks. Every tick of the clock marks the ebb and flow of a few AFC careers. Step up Bobby, Dennis, Sol(?), Flamini, Cole, Reyes, RvP…

Would love Edu to stay…he came on and was great during the Tiny Totts match but he seems to want to leave, maybe he hankers after the sunshine. Don’t think we can do anything on this one as Arsene obviously won’t pay him what he wants. Perhaps his family may also feel that a sunnier clime would be more fun.

Reyes seems to be playing a little better but is still tentative when near the goal.
His mother seems to be the stumbling block according to rumours over here. Maybe if she and father and brother cleared off back to Spain he and Miss Remedios could work something out. Possibly they could buy her an umbrella and a furlined macintosh ( raincoat ). Who knows.

  7. DannyT Says:

Let’s be honest, Edu is too good to be sitting on the bench behind Vieira & Gilberto, whilst Fabregas is the future. I don’t blame him for wanting to leave.

The suggestions about Beckham are somewhat doubtful. He has clearly stated that he does not want to leave Real Madrid and Real Madrid have not suggested they want to get rid of him, in fact they’re probably quite pleased with Beckham.

Besides, why have a superb dead-ball specialist when none of our players can head a ball or even attempt to head a ball. It’s obvously not something Wenger works on in training, so why Wenger is even suggesting he is interested in Beckham is baffling. As someone mentioned previously ,maybe it’s a half-arsed attempt to rattle Madrid, unless Wenger is trying to sound out a “Reyes for Beckham” deal, but he would still have to reconfigure Arsenal’s style of play to accomodate him, and I can’t see Wenger doing that.

It’s been the same system for 7 years, and all that’s ever changed is the players.

I’m wondering about the Udinese/Juve keeper mentioned by Scotty last week, who allegedly wants to come to the EPL. This isn’t to hide his red face by any chance, is it? Udinese are joint fourth in the table - almost a miracle for them, so, depending on remaining fixtures, they could be in the CL - but their defensive record is awful: 37 goals conceded in 34 games, which is actually worse than ours. Was he their keeper the whole season? Is their back four exceptionally bad? I don’t know anything about him but the stats aren’t exactly encouraging? I’m also wondering why Juve/Udinese are letting him go? Is he out of contract or potentially expensive? Has anyone here actually seen him?

  9. miranda Says:

Agree. I’d almost prefer Owen but I don’t want either, and I guess Wenger wouldn’t ever fall for that sort of deal. He does seem to make polite noises about English players - remember last August - but I suspect this is purely diplomacy because when it comes to the crunch we don’ t actually buy them. I suspect the polite noises about Gerrard aren’t to be believed either, unless we could buy him for almost nothing, which we won’t.

Shame to see Edu going in the summer, startin to think we might need a central midfielder to replace him as Parlour left last season and now Edu…

Reyes, now thats a tough one, think he’ll go. Dont see him ever building a partnership with Henry and our team is built around him.

Somethin tells me Cole WILL stay. Fingers crossed he will, best left back in the prem.
