Season in Review ? Part I European Golden Boot hunt
May 25

A morning in small town of Ames Iowa, where I took the role of telling people about a great game will be shown in this College Bar. Not many people there are crazy Arsenal or Man U Fans.

You find people who like soccer, but not many who will be crazy enough like me to know all the players and watch all the games even if they play at 6:00 am.

Many of my friends like to watch soccer, not necessarily to follow the EPL, but they know my craziness about Arsenal. I was able to get around 10 people from my soccer team back in college to get up to watch the game. I told them stories about the 7-0 win over the fourth of the league, about 17 year old Spanish who plays better than Kean ( that guy in Man Utd) or Bregy who is still playing like 29 or Henry the French World cup winner. Many were excited to see some sort of show, some sort of fun Soccer show.

Well, we all showed up to that bar and there was some Chelsea fake fans (2-3 ), 2 gooners and 3 Man UTD fans.

Since the game started and we (as Arsenal fans) know that Arsenal did not get much of control on the ball. I remember one of the kids who played in my team in college (he was my Sol if I am Jens) also my roommates, has pointed out: ?where the Arsenal Show ? I thought Arsenal have the greatest football, come on let them play better, hahah?. I answered ? I wish I am AW, but I am sure he changed Arsenal Show to this way of playing in order to win. Sit and wait! ?

Many of those kids that I brought with me watch the MLS or just whatever game on TV and they play soccer in some local semi prof clubs. For a second I felt guilty, and this game is not representing the Arsenal that we all know.

The game goes on and RVP gets a shoot and Arsenal gets a Corner and I am the only one who is almost having a breakdown during the game. A friend of mine commented ? if this happens to you every weekend, I bet you would be dead by now? I shouted ? We always play great, but today I am not sure ? we will win, like Greece did?. Sometimes I like Greece for this, because they made an excuse to play bad and win.

Well after this crazy game, and I am shouting outside in the streets dressing Arsenal shirt, have flag surrounded me and wearing a gunners cap running in the town of Ames Iowa. People would stop and wonder about this crazy kids doing at this time ?is he drunk, it is noon for god sake, nothing in Iowa beside getting drunk !?.

Then I had to deal with the hard time of teasing me ?Arsenal was lucky, I am sure they are always lucky like this?. But at the end, I?d rather be a Greek fan not Check Republic fan or a Portuguese fan. I?d rather be an Arsenal fan and not Man UTD fan. I am sure that AW played like this to win !

This is just a 4 hours story of a Gooner in little town of Ames, Iowa!

Funny story, faresk82. And all too familiar, I’m afraid. Sometimes I wonder if the FBI have a file on all of us here. Be proud that you gave Ames something to talk about. Did you end up on the front page of the local paper? ;^)

I hope Gooners everywhere sung and cheered loudly enough to not be forgotten. I know I did…even if I was too drunk to remember most of it.

That’s what pictures are for Scotty. You can see them here:

Saw them, dude. Classic. Scary, but classic.

    Hey ScottyUS:

I dont think anyone was working from the local newspaper that time to take my picture :-) … I think I would have made it ..hehe. Well I am back to New Orleans now !

P.s. I Love your frequent posts ScottyUS !

L’Poll 3-0 down. The table doesn’t lie does it? Milan is PURE class. Wish we had this Kaka in our team….

  6. ScottyUS Says:

    How funny is 3-3?

  7. love_Gunners Says:

Which table.. Stop singing till the fat lady says so

  8. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

I’m wiping egg from my face. 3-3.

  9. stag133 Says:

    Apparently the table DOES lie.
When it involves a Jekyll & Hyde team like Liverpool. They can lose to Palace and beat Chelsea and Juve. They can go down 3-0 in the first half and look pitiful, and score 3 in the 2nd half to tie things up 3-3…
    AMAZING.

  10. love_Gunners Says:

    So you should.

Never sing ahead of yourself. Wait for the fat lady.

  11. ScottyUS Says:

Not looking forward to the scouse claims of being the team to fear next year, look who we beat, puttin’ ten past Arsenal, we’re never out of it, our fans to thank, blah, blah, blah…still fifth.

Imagine if they win and don’t get in now.

  12. love_Gunners Says:

I left the pub thinking the game was over not now.
    #
    Com on U Reds!!!!!!

  13. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

    L’Pool says a lot for

    1. Floating into the box
    2. Kicking from out of the box

  14. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

Don’t want a fifth place team as CL winners….

  15. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

POOL ARE CL CHAMPS. Great game, incredible spirit. But a team that finished 37 points behind the league winners???

    Anyway, congrats to them!!!

    Rafa is a great tactician.

  16. love_Gunners Says:

    Sing with me folks..

You will never walk alone.. Forget whether they 10th or 2nd in the league table they have won the big cup of them all..

Well than Kops.. Better than 99

  17. stag133 Says:

This shows exactly why the CL is more luck than talent. 5th place team, a MILE behind the league winners wins the Champion’s League.

    Porto win it last season.

Congratulations to Liverpool. They fought back for an incredible win. The question now begs, will they even be allowed to defend the title. I’m not sure a 5th place team does deserve it, but what harm in putting them into the preliminary stages with United, and have them win their way into the tournament. They deserve that at least.

  18. love_Gunners Says:

Come on you can do better than that.

    What luck Pls

  19. love_Gunners Says:

    As the guy just said..

It comes down believe and Porto and Liverpool have managers who know how to win in Europe and change their tactics..

Let say well done to them instead of Excuses.

  20. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

Absolutely wasn’t luck none of the goals were lucky. A VERY astute manager who changed things when they clearly weren’t working.

  21. love_Gunners Says:

    You 100% right..

Can Wenger do that ? 3 nil down and come back and win like that. Wicked. Today we are all kops.

  22. SachinG Says:

Yes it was a great comeback for Liverpool. But no one in the media anywhere will mention a word about Dudek’s behavior during the shoot out. He was miles off his line for Pirlo’s save and a nuisance for the other kicks. But hey, the referee didn’t see anything wrong with it. If any Arsenal goalie had attempted such antics, the media would be all over the gunners.

  23. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

  24. gunner4life Says:

Well if Wenger decides to play our CL games next season using his 4-5-1 formation, we might just nick the Euro trophy on penalty kicks.

  25. Andez Says:

Love_G, how could u ask us to join u singing “we will never walk alone”?….. We are ARSENAL fans for God’s sake.

  26. stag133 Says:

    Couldn’t agree more.
Don’t care a rat’s ass about Liverpool winning. They’re still a 5th place team in the EPL.

  27. stag133 Says:

Why would I be happy or care about Liverpool winning the CL? If Chelsea had won, I’d be sick to my stomach. Good for Liverpool. They’re still 5th in the EPL.

Perhaps the CL should re-do how many teams are in the tournament, because the best teams aren’t winning it. That is FACT.

  28. faresk82 Says:

I think it tells us one thing that Rafa said before I have the 11 to beat Chelsea and to play and beat Milan.
But I dont have the squad to win every game in the EPL.

Arsenal have the Squad to win and be second at least ( for the last 7 years).

But Arsenal need the right 11 and LUCK also to win in CL.

  29. SachinG Says:

Love_G, you posted this a month or so ago..

Sorry but have to say you some of you so-called Arsenal fans are sad. What is the deal with all this anti-Chelsea post and articles?

It makes us look a silly and jealous of them with too many SG. Just got back from a good rest ?holidays? and all I can read is Chelsea this and that like Arsenal have just won the CL. Folks we not in the final to start with so move on and start thinking about how Arsenal gets into the finals and not why Chelsea did not got into the final.

People seem to care more about others than themselves. Sad

This is Arsenal America and let talk about the Arsenal not this post-by-post crap about Chelsea. Who cares about them unless you support them?

I would like to pose your last lines to you. Who cares about Liverpool so much unless you support them?

People have different way to handle their team’s loss. A lot of people felt hard done by Chelsea. You pointed out that was silly. But seriously, praising another team as much as you are might be deemed in the same light? One was negative, and this might be a bit too positive. Both sides of the same coin.

  30. love_Gunners Says:

Well the differnce is for us all to see.

Chelsea lost to Liverpool and it seems we have won that cup. All I’m saying it instead of the excuses let enjoy their win.

  31. stag133 Says:

Why would I enjoy a Liverpool win?
Nobody made ANY excuse for Arsenal from anything I read. We just don’t give a toss about Liverpool.
