Thanks to stag133 for point out this story.
It’s official what we’ve heard and expected. Arsenal has released Americans Frank Simek and Danny Karbassiyoon when their contracts expire this Summer. Frank and Danny have been great to ArsenalAmerica and we’ll be sad to see them depart. Frank will likely sign with another club in England, and we haven’t heard from Danny but he has been plying his trade while on loan recently so perhaps he will stay over as well.
gleas3 asks:
“Any new Americans we can recommend to replace Karbassiyoon and Simek?”
rwharvey also notes:
“According to the BBC, Arsenal have released 5 youngsters, including Danny Karbassiyoon and Frankie Simek. Having met both of them on the ArseAm tour last year, I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing them both well wherever their future footballing career takes them. The full story is at:”
DANNY KARBASSIYOON
Karbassiyoon arrived at Highbury as a striker but was soon plying his trade on the left flank and is now making steady progress as a full-back. He made his mark in the Carling Cup last season, coming on as a substitute to score in a 2-1 win against Manchester City and making further appearances against Everton and Manchester United. He then enjoyed a productive loan spell at Ipswich.
FRANKIE SIMEK
Simek is another young defender who has featured in the Carling Cup for Arsenal. He played a full 90 minutes in the 5-1 win over Wolves during the 2003/04 campaign. Simek went out on loan twice last season. He played five games for Queen’s Park Rangers and then spent the final weeks of the season at Bournemouth.

More News:
Edu has signed for Valencia.
And something to brighten our days: Nike are considering withdrawing their sponsorship from Manu if the team’s performance doesn’t improve. Will they qualify for the CL next season? Probably, but not definitely - they nearly bottled it a couple of times in recent years. Oh what a joy that would be.

Last time I talked with Danny’s Dad in Ranok he mentioned that his son might be going to Nottingham Forest. This was back in March when he said this.
You can check Danny’s blog at : http://www.dannyk.us .. I am sure he will update it sometime soon !

any truth to this?
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is launching a mega bid for Atletico Madrid star striker Fernando Torres.
The People says Torres will move to Highbury if the Gunners can reach an agreement with cash-strapped Atletico Madrid.
Torres is valued at around ?20million, but Arsenal want to use players as part of a deal to bring the young striker, known to his adoring fans as El Nino, to London.
Midfielders Edu and Robert Pires could enter the equation. Both are surplus to requirements at Highbury and want to play in La Liga.
Highbury chief Arsene Wenger sees Torres, capped 12 times by Spain, as the perfect foil for Thierry Henry, who has demanded reinforcements up front.
He would also help Arsenal’s homesick Spaniard Jose Antonio Reyes, his international team-mate, to settle in London.
Torres, 21, broke into the Atletico first team as a raw 17-year-old and has been the club’s top scorer ever since.
Chelsea showed an interest during the January transfer window, using Adrian Mutu as bait, and Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer. But Arsenal are at the front of the queue and the prospect of playing with Henry and his Spanish pal Reyes is hugely tempting for Torres.

While I have seen the stories of Arsenal being interested in Torres circulating, I am not sure how the “cash strapped” Athletico Madrid get help financially if we send Robert Pires for the striker?
Pires makes alot of money, probably more than Torres. Edu is GONE. He has no ties to Arsenal, and is already close to signing with Valencia, as Miranda pointed out!
So I’d like to see him arrive at Highbury!, but its not likely to be for a player swap, we’d have to splash out the $20 million. That would set VanPersie back in the rotation… not to mention the other kids like Lupoli, Quincy, & Aliadiare. Bergy is still here…
its a TOUGH call for Arsenal.
Yes, we need re-inforcements, but we will have to decide which young players to sell, because they can’t sit and watch forever.
With that happening, you will have all the FELLOWSHIP of the MISERABLE ripping Arsenal for letting kids go, and the lack of a youth program. Can’t have it both ways, plain and simple.
This Summer is crucial for us, and the signings we make or don’t are VERY important. It should be an interesting silly season, to say the least.
A Name to chew on…
Cudicini? (would Chelsea even sell him to us?)
The rumor is out there…
along with MANY others…

Heard that Arsenal is looking at Robinho at Santos. Any thoughts about this rumour you guys?
Is he good? Has anyone watch this guy played?
May 30th, 2005 at 11:38 pm
I read that one as well, as we have been linked with a “BUNCH” of players.
Robinho at Santos is supposed to be a fantastic talent. However, he said he doesn’t want to go anywhere. He wants to win the Copa de Liberatores. He’s not doing that at Arsenal. On the wish list, but I don’t think he’s a likely candidate.

I thought Le Boss looking for players in the age bracket of 23-27. All of a sudden, Arsenal is link with younger players. Anyway if we manage to get Torres and Robinho, that will be really a young strike force if you take out TH.

Dear Rick,
Remember where you heard it first.

Robinho’s the new Pele- according to himself he still needs to play more games to get anywhere near the king’s record- He is constantly making defenders look foolish with stepovers and tricks- somehow plays like christiano ronaldo but with DB10’s vision and passing and flick-ons.
Definitely a player to have– but then there’s South American Striker’s and the Premiership- Forlan anyone???

Robinho is hailed as the new “big thing” of Brazil. The R legacy continues (Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and now Robinho). Of cos, part of the hype coming from the fact he’s playing for Santos - club of the great Pele. So the comparision is inevitably.
No doubt he’s skillful, but he’s too lightweight at the moment (aged 21). I don’t think he can cut it in the Premiership’s physical style. Besides, he has already stated his desire to stay with Santos at least till the World Cup to boost his chance of being picked to the World Cup. U can understand where he’s coming from.. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano, Kaka.. it’s not easy to break into this team even though u are remarkably skillful!

This site is repetitive! Don’t you read earlier posts? Arsene-knows and I have been discussing the Torres/Robinho rumours for days - look back and you’ll see! Yes, there’s something in the speculation - for once - but problems with both (possible) signings as well.
May 31st, 2005 at 1:38 pm
I thought he was going to Real Madrid. I think they are in the running for him. I think Robinho would be a flashy player, but he’s very lightweight and would be knocked around with ease in the EPL. Torres would be a better fit IMO.

Yes, Madrid want him, and - naturally - their press and radio are saying they’ve got him. However, we have had high-level representatives watching him at Santos over the last couple of weeks. As to whether he’d do better in Spain - sure, most well-informed people in Brazil are saying he would, and I dare say they’re right. If you want to know about what they’re thinking in Brazil, there’s a good discussion on South American football with a man called Tim Vicary on BBC 5 Live on Friday night/Saturday morning - 2.30 a.m. English time (!) but early to mid- evening in the US.
May I suggest a useful rule of thumb?
If you read a rumour in a tabloid over the next three months there’s a 99.9 percent chance it is wrong. Put yourself in their shoes - they’ve got to write something sensational at least twice a week. If, however, you read it on arseblog - which is where I learned about our interest in Robinho - there’s a 99.9 percent chance it is right. He has an inside source at the club and is responsible and very, very reliiable. But don’t bother looking for transfer news over the next two to three weeks as he’s on holiday.
