Arsenal among top seeds for Champions League
Arsenal will be among the eight top seeds when the draw is made for the Group Stage of the Champions League.
UEFA have confirmed the club coefficients which are used to calculate each side’s seeding in Europe’s elite club competition, and Arsenal’s record in the competition puts them among the elite.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are also among the top seeds. Liverpool, Manchester United and Internazionale will join that group if they qualify for the Group Stage.
Chelsea and Everton - if the latter come through the qualifying round - are not among the top seeds. However, Arsenal cannot face another English club in the Group Stage of the competition.

Im sure if Henry & co retire without winning the champions league they will look at that top 8 and tell their grandchildren how they were in the “elite”.

You’ll surely get backlash for the facts Curt.
We are among the elite of Europe. We haven’t been as bad as our critics say in Europe, but we need to make a magical run in the CL. You only need one run, one year, one moment of glory. Liverpool are so far from an elite European team its crazy. So are Porto. But they had their years.

There’s no point being labelled elite if you don’t win anything is there? Losing finalists are not remembered, so what of losuing Quarter Finalists?
I think the very fact that you are championing this statement from Arsenal.com shows how insecure you are about Arsenal’s standing in Europe. I mean to say, if you thought Arsenal really were an elite European team, you wouldn’t even be posting this.

I know, I just saw the wording of the article & thought, “Oh, I gotta stir the pot with this!”
Don’t forget mighty Steaua Bucharest! Or galactically superior Red Star Belgrade! They’ve both made a final! Obviously, in the elite of European football as well…
Remember, Stag, Man U’s CL glory & elite status came from 2 crazy minutes.

Ah yes, the old reverse psychology ploy. I don’t talk loud enough when we lose, I’m insecure about our success. I point a fact, I am insecure about our success. I don’t think I am incapable of being insecure about our success when I’ve stated on numerous occasions that my happiness is not based on the results of Arsenal’s matches.
Using your own logic, if the comment has such irrelevancy, you shouldn’t have posted at all yourself.
I posted it strictly to get a rise out of people & you took the bait, Danny, just like I knew you would, thanks. So my psychological analysis is just as good as yours. But as I’m insecure about myself, I had to post a reply to your remark as you were insecure enough to reply to my idiotic news submission.

Not to mention if we were to win the CL & do it on penalties or winning 1-0 while looking like crapola or some other lucky occurrence, then we’d get lambasted about ‘lucky Arsenal’ blah blah blah. ‘Are they truly elite champions?’ & whatever else drivel the media would conjure up.

Except that losing in the quarters seems to keep giving us a good seed for the group stages, so there’s something in it don’t you think?

Whatever the people who replied back to you said, we are one of the best teams in Eroup. CL is never the only indicator.
As Curtisimo pointed, Red Star, they are not any more a big team. Marselle , I rememeber the 91/92 CL win, Where are they now … Nottingham forest , Hamburg .. Where are they now ? Some where trying to make it to Uefa CUP.
Note that Juventus is in the second seed, even they have won it many times.
At least we are there every year in the CL, and we pass the Group stages. Some time we will win it, we will be remembred as the team who desereved it, not as a a team who stole it with luck ….
If UEFA recognize Arsenal, we as fans should also be proud of our team

Faresk, that’s the only point I’m trying to make. The ‘underachievers’ label is just something placed on us by the media.
Would I like to win the CL? Of course.
Will it define some historical definition of greatness if we win it? Who cares?
I’m offering/have offered a couple of pieces of hard, factual evidence:
1. Arsenal are one of the only teams, if not the only team to progress past the group stages during Wewnger’s tenure.
2. The fact that we are consistently a high seed by UEFA proves we are in the elite.
Others on here who dismiss Arsenal’s European performances or Wenger’s tactical “naivete” have only offered opinion. However secure or insecure an opinion is, it is just that- an opinion.

Wow. Me too. So I had to post. But to counteract the insecurity, a brought a security guard to watch me post, so I figure with the area secure, I’ll be scure both physically & mentally.
And I prayed, so I’m secure spiritually too. For now. At least until the teasing mites return with the next textile shipment from Hong Kong.

Leeds United and Chelsea have been as far as the Semi-Final but are not in the Elites because they have not been in the competition year after year and been a consistent factor.

Ummm, ok. Bu twho said anything about useful.
However, to be “elite,” you would be quite “useful” are have “useful” qualities. So I would say that being “useful” is not literally the same as “elite” but that being both is possible.

No, nearly everyone I speak to, including many many Arsenal fans, believe we are perennial underacheivers in Europe. And not all of the media is to be neglected either, they are not ‘all’ tabloids, maybe in America - but not in normal countries like Britain.
