Champions League Draw Northfield/Minneapolis, MN
Aug 25

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he wants to sign a new goalkeeper.
However, the Arsenal boss insists Bayer Leverkusen keeper Rene Adler, who has been linked with the Gunners, was not bound for Highbury.

He confirmed: “We will sign a goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window but which one, I don’t know yet. It will not be [Adler] though.”

So Arsene is looking for a new keeper. I would much rather see a new keeper than seen Michael Owen in red. I think that finding a stronger and more consistant keeper than Jens will help make up for the lack of a strong defensive midfielder. Wenger has yet to identify a target publicly and time is running out. What does everyone think of Jens at this point? Who do you think would be a good realistic transfer?

Jens has played reasonably well since he was benched for Almunia.
We still could use some cover when Jens is suspended for 2 games… gotta get someone in here… in like… 5 days.
If its NOT a TOP CLASS number 1 keeper, it doesn’t matter much, in that Jens is Jens.

jens played well last night, couldnt do too much about the goal
keep with him but itd be nice to have a good promising youngster like all the ones we’ve had but wenger has never given the chance to

judged from the first 3 games so far, Lehmann is one of the best performaners of my choice. And i agree with stag, since he has regained his position on the second half of last season, I think he has been very solid since. This is the World Cup year, i believe it will be a very good season for Jens, don’t forget he has a personal mission to win the starting place from his old friend Kahn at the Germany national team. He’s not young, it’d be very likely his last world cup chance, can’t see anyone else in the team will be as motivated as him.

The fact is someone is needed for the first two Champs League games. Other than that, Jens is good only if he can keep his temper under control. If he is composed, then I think he will be fine.
Andez mentioned the world cup factor, and I agree. I think Jens will have to play his heart out to get Germany’s #1 spot. But at the same time, I fear indifference as well. The fact is even Kahn has bad games, he won’t be ousted because of certain political factors. Nonetheless I think that time on the bench changed Jens. I remember when the camera focussed on him sitting there watching MA, his expressions were hurtful. Not anger, but hurt. I think he is not going to take anything for granted from now on.

Regarding any transfers, I have absolutely no idea.
I don’t think it will be someone I have heard of.

You could have the best keeper in the world and with our defencive deficiences he would get peppered with shots all day and night from top class european opposition! Midfield needs strengthening more than a goalie at present, especially with such a jam Champions league draw.

  6. mobjack Says:

Keeper, per favore. Lehmann’s good, but he seems to choke in the critical situations. He looked poor during Deutschland’s Confederations Cup tourney this summer where the Brazilian offense scored on him relentlessly.

All I have to say to you is—3 games—2 goals against—1 good(Fulham)—1 questionable(Chel$ki) .Settle down and enjoy the ride.
    Gotta LOVE those GUNNERS!!!!!!

Apparently VanPersie has been cleared of the rape charges. From what I’ve read, the woman said she was NOT raped. Bodes well for RVP’s future. Now stick to football RVP, and get that head on straight and narrow. No more stupid stuff. You are too talented to waste it.

Aliadiare is BACK in London. Unfortunately, he’ll be playing for West Ham. It didn’t work out at Celtic, so he will be on loan for the year at West Ham. Somehow, I can see him being a big success there, and then wanting to stay at West Ham.
I will him ALL the best of luck at the Hammers… he can prove himself IN THE EPL, and show Wenger he is capable. Go Gettem Ali.

I`m more settled than our midfield….and I allways enjoy the ride!

Big fish in a little pool?

I think Ali is very Talented. He just had a bad luck with injuries. AW loves Ali, and thats why he let him go for a loan, cause he knows that what he needs is some confidence. I think he will be back to Arsenal with his best.

Way off thread here, but did anyone else see this article:

    http://217.204.41.132/cgi/NGoto/2/107132453?1206

The statistic in the box at the bottom regarding Reyes and assists *REALLY* opened my eyes! I was shocked. Anybody else?

  13. IceOtter Says:

I agree, barring further injury, Ali could turn out to be a very gifted striker. He looks pretty buff too, so he might turn out to be a handfull in the box.

  14. KCGooner Says:

I didnt realize the number and was also surprised. I was really excited when Reyes joined AFC and also by his early performance for the squad. I was a bit put off by the whole Real madrid bs, but I can’t deny he’s a good player. With Dennis perhaps playing his last year ( one more please!!) my hope was Reyes would take his role as a supporting Striker for Thierry. It would appear he is on his way their and lets hope it continues.

Has anybody seen this yet today?:

If Tony says so, it must BE so. I’ve never heard of the guy, but if Wenger sneaks him in, it would say to me that he’s found other ways to bring players in without the Kenyon clan noticing.

  16. ScottyUS Says:

Btw, don’t let the title of the article fool you. Read to the bottom.

    And catchy!

  18. Andez Says:

Question… Why footballers these days like to have a hair cut looked like girls?

If you think Cesc’s is bad enough, check out Woodgate’s. Having been in Spain for a year without a kick of the ball, he surely have got himself looking like a Spanish player right now! Call me old fashion, but footballer and long hair just don’t fit.. expecially when you are supposed to be tough nut central half!

  19. ScottyUS Says:

I saw him when he came in for the MLS select game and I thought the exact same thing! Not that long hair doesn’t fit, that doesn’t bother me, but that it didn’t work on him. It was like he’d been assimilated.

I’ll forgive Cesc, cause its better than the mullet, he’s young and he’s got issues with that helmet of his. At least the David Seaman look left when he did. ;^)

  20. IceOtter Says:

    Brilliant Scotty!!!!!

Thanks for catching that and sharing.

    Jay

  21. Andez Says:

actually the first time i saw it, it kinda reminded me of Norman Bates (when he cross dressing up to be his mom)…

  22. stag133 Says:

    Come on Andez!
    Get with the times!
Manu Petit with the pony tail…??

They could have hair down to their waist, if they produce, I don’t care at all!

  23. ScottyUS Says:

Good call. Still, after having seen Woodgate with a spike top thing when he was in England, and now with the “do du jour”, he looks like he’s trying too hard to get laid. Tool.

  24. connid Says:

Much too much has been made of the occasional (albeit high-profile) ewrrors Lehman has committed. I thik he’s a pretty good goalie - in fact I can’t think of too many better than him.

Not sure I feel the same way about his current back-up.
