Currently, Birmingham City fans feel they have little to cheer about. One win in seven matches, it wasn’t supposed to be this way. Forssell was back and Heskey had proved he could score goals. The two were going to bring this club into European competition. The results have just not been there and the the competition has been some of the softest in the league. City look to be a ready target for the Gunners and a sure way to get on track.
As the competition looks to bring out the old 4-5-1 against the Gunners, I don’t see City being much different. The back four will stay flat...

At the moment members of this forum seem to sit in one of two camps; 1. the eternal optimists who refuse to see the danger signs, 2. the doom mongers who think that this time next year Arsenal will only have 3 players left.
Lets try and get some perspective. I foresaw the current state in this team a long time ago. In fact, I was probably the first person on this site to warn that Arsenal were a dead duck in Europe, Wenger was not progressing the team and certain elements of his management left a lot to be desired. Of course, it was about 6 months after Arsenal had their magnificent unbeaten...

I made my second pilgrimage to Highbury this summer (I also got to see the new stadium . . . . very nice!).
Unfortunately, I lived in West London (Chelsea territory). You can imagine how I felt on the way back on the train after the game against Chelsea. I had people making fun of me at every stop!
Anyway, while in London, I saw several intersting custom names that people had on the backs of their Arsenal Jerseys.

Patrick Vieira saw the writing on the ‘Marble halls of Highbury’ a few years ago when in his opinion Arsenal failed to bring in enough world class players to maintain their dominance in the premiership, Real Madrid kept calling but he chose to stay in the belief that Arsenal would become the attractive force in World football. Eventually he realized it would not happen while he was at his peek and so he had no choice but to move to a team that sets no limitations when it comes to buying stars to win trophys and satisfy his personal ambition.
Thiery Henry was aware of Vieira`s...

I recently read an article in a reputable newspaper describing Henry as a big game bottler (after scoring the winning the goal against Ireland) and to some extent the FIFpro awards are backing this up…what does Henry have to do to get the respect he deserves as the worlds most potent attacker?
It is widely accepted that Titi is a big game bottler, even by some of our own fans, but his record is more or less incredible. From Euro 2000, when in the best international football tournament I have ever seen, he was top scorer for France. Since then he has topped the EPL scoring charts,...

[ed. note: Sorry this is a bit late - major pc troubles the last three days!]
I’m not going to try to fool you and act as if I know alot about Ajax. Since FSC took the Eredivisie off the air, two or three years ago, I have not seen Ajax. What I do know is that they are one Europe’s most famous and storied clubs. The history alone is enough to respect this team.
Formed in 1900, Ajax was elevated to the top of Dutch football in 1911. As far as I know, they have continued a run in the top flite for nearly 100 years. Winners of 27 Eredivisie titles and 25 European trophies,...

in a london derby….I did think we would have enough to beat West Ham if they were trying to attack, but instead they showed some sense and defended against us. To read some of the papers today, you would think Wenger should commit suicide - according to the Telegraph, Arsenal’s inability to beat West Ham points to the ‘end for Arsenal’. Obviously our form is not great, but I wouldn’t say it’s a disaster to draw away without Henry, Bergkamp and Pires. We could have lost at home to Blackburn. Chelsea are just making everyone else look bad by being so good (they...

Welcome to Matchday 6 (At least for these teams) as we have a good one for you this week. The 5th place Hammers take on the 6th place Gunners in a battle to see who moves up the table. The Hammers sit higher in the table than the Gunners? Surely you jest. No, I don’t (and don’t call me Shirley.) West Ham have been the surprise of the new campaign. They present an interesting battle for Arsenal and look to be far better and far more entertaining than in the years past.
In the preseason table I wrote that West Ham had the potential to be as far up as 9th and as far back as 19th....

I’m not sure if people are interested in this one, but over the years, I like to follow the progress of the former-Arsenal players since their departure. For the bigger names, it’s relatively easy. The flinge players though, it’s not an easy task. Their lower reputation do not generate as much public interest, so information about them are hard to come by, be it on the net, or the football magazines.
Anyway, here are the progress of a few former-Arsenal youth team products. I cannot guarantee they are the most up-to-date info. I did what I could.

Playing 4-5-1 is fashionable in today’s football world, playing 4-5-1 is efficient, playing 4-5-1 is easy (just pack your midfield and try to STOP your opponent play), and playing 4-5-1 will help to put the arrogrant strikers out of job! What more can we ask for?! So WHY don’t we go with the tide, and play with 4-5-1?
Only, there is one question… WHY should we play the 4-5-1 when we CAN play a more attractive free-flowing style of football?
