[ed. note: Sorry this is a bit late - major pc troubles the last three days!]
I’m not going to try to fool you and act as if I know alot about Ajax. Since FSC took the Eredivisie off the air, two or three years ago, I have not seen Ajax. What I do know is that they are one Europe’s most famous and storied clubs. The history alone is enough to respect this team.
Formed in 1900, Ajax was elevated to the top of Dutch football in 1911. As far as I know, they have continued a run in the top flite for nearly 100 years. Winners of 27 Eredivisie titles and 25 European trophies, they hail as one of the vanguards in world football.
Ajax have a Hall of Fame like no other. Many players were heads and shoulders above the world’s best, but long before my time. Perhaps their most famous name is Johan Cruijff. Their leading scorer from 1965-1972, he was an absolute magician. Very few players in history have had the command he had. I actually met him and got his autograph in the late 1970’s when he did a stint with the Washington Diplomats (After his trade from the LA Aztecs). Of course their most famous name amongst Gunner fans will be Kanu. OK, Im’ joking, it would be Dennis Bergkamp. I need to say little about “God”, but he led them in goals scored from 1990-93, averaging 25 goals per season. Other recent superstars include Patrick Kluivert and Jari Litmanen. Ajax have been known to elevate their youth to world famous players.
Ajax was a Greek warrior in Homers, “The Iliad.” Ajax was known as a powerful giant, the bulwark of the Greek Army. It is said he ascended to god status. I find it funny that Angelos Christeas, the 25 year old Greek player, is emerging as perhaps their next superstar. He has 4 goals in only 2 starts this year, including 2 this last weekend. Ajax defeated Roda JC 4-1, in what match reports stated was a 90 minute demolition. Searching the Ajax roster I only recognized one name, Tomas Galasek. The 35 year old Czech has been with the club for several years and stands as a challenge in the middle.
Ajax sit at 5th with 3 wins, 2 loses and one draw. Sounds abit familiar. They are dissappointed with their start and hope that the European campaign will increase the teams confidence to make a run at Feynoord.
Ajax 1-1 Arsenal
The Gunners hate to travel
See more of Ajax at www.ajax.nl. They have a complete English website. Just choose “English” on the front page.

I’m an old Amsterdamer myself, living there for many years. My second citizenship is Dutch after Canadian. Thus I have a very big soft spot for Ajax.
Arsenal, for reasons to complex to state here, is my Professional Club side whom I support and watch every game I can - in part because of TV geography. I’m a gunner!
It’s almost like adultery because it’s hard to please two women if you care a great deal for both. After a while you got to choose - the women make you or your alone. Can’t say I blame them either.
So here I sit torn between my first love Arsenal and my mistress of many years Ajax. Funny, just like being discovered by the wife: today I have to choose, and with Arsenal’s recent history nothing short of a win will do. The Bible is right when it says “You can’t yoke two different oxen to the same cart.”
So today I want my wife to slap my mistress, so that tomorrow when things are normal I can go back to my mistress and console her. What a wacky world sports is. Kinda funny really!
Anyway, AJAX in Greek mythology was what would be considered a Mercenary today. He was also notoriously paranoid thinking his men were always out to kill him. One night he thought he cut all their throats but the men got word of it. As per-usual back then, the men slept under sheepskins. The men placed sheep under these skins and when the dawn broke what they found was that Ajax had killed all of them, the sheep that is. Ajax was also extremely jealous fellow and scorned Agamemnon when he awarded the armor of the dead Achilles to Odysseus.
Sounds just like a good mistress to me.
See I’m being forced to choose knowing the mistress could cut my throat or face the wrath of my wife.
Coincidentally, Ajax later committed suicide because of his shame in being jealous of Odysseus
GO GUNNERS GO - who said life can’t imitate art.

Don’t forget arguably the greatest- Van Basten
September 27th, 2005 at 2:49 pm
Rykaard, Van Gullit, etc. That whole triple winning team.
September 27th, 2005 at 3:44 pm
1-0 up my heart is soaring…
freddie with an early goal (god bless him and his early goals) need a 2nd goal desperately …looked pretty good in attack just a bit shaky at the back…ajax plenty trigger happy could learn from them
September 27th, 2005 at 4:43 pm
Good performance considering the players we had out. Hleb is brilliant.
September 27th, 2005 at 4:45 pm
2-1 To Arsenal!!!!!!!!!
Relief, joy, happiness, relief, excitement, did I mention relief already?
Freddie and Pires. The old guard bring home 3 previous away points.
And Thun managed to beat Sparta 1-0.
September 27th, 2005 at 4:53 pm
got to follow only on soccernet gamecast still no freaking cable in college.
so plz someone come up with player ratings. but like sachin saz 1-0 joy relief
2-0 ecstacy
minutes later pain and memories of panathanikos away and bolton away come rushing back …sheer pain edge of my seat for last 20 minutes…

also cant wait to hear stags spin on this one!
September 27th, 2005 at 4:55 pm
BRILLIANT VICTORY for the Arsenal.
Ajax had as many out as we did… we’ll take it.
VERY important 3 points, as FC Thun beat Sparta…
This is HUGE… we look fanastic in terms of status in this group and advancing looks extremely likely.
Didn’t see the match, but a victory is sweeeeeeeeeeeet…
Go on Arsenal!
September 27th, 2005 at 4:55 pm
Just looking at the list of substitutes at the begining of this game made my pulse race, this squad seems to be getting younger and younger. Man!!!! I am feeling good!!!!!!
This is the perfect cure for the doldrums.
Usually we have a bad night in Europe and have to pick up our confidence by stuffing some mid-table premiership team. Today its the other way around.
YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AJAX 1 - 2 ARSENAL
September 27th, 2005 at 5:00 pm
u r so right normally we falter draw in europe and stuff some mid table prem team and feel good abt ourselves. maybe a bit early to call but who knows maybe this season better performances in europe cud be vot we are headed for.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:01 pm
You know guys winning combinations are discovered by accident ussually and I hope Arsene Wenger does not tinker with this one for a while because all these guys seemed awesome at least from the gamecast. I hope this team combination stays even if Gilberto makes a quick recovery. If this team worked today lets just run with it and see how many games we can win with it.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:04 pm
I hope so. This was a huge game, one of THE MOST DIFFICULT in this group. Now I believe we can come out on top of this group after all six games are played.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:11 pm
You answered the question I was going to ask. I was going to ask if you saw the game live or followed on the net?
I thought maybe ESPN india was showing the game live. I figured they might have been showing the Man U game instead?
September 27th, 2005 at 5:20 pm
actually no idea no espn in college normally they have one game on star and one on espn. and the others shown with a time delay. still looking for some comprehensive match report. seems like reyes did well.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:24 pm
I always confident that we would win reasonably comfortably tonight. Ajax are not the team they were two years ago and although we had alot of players out, our defence and spine was strong enough to ensure our flair players got enough of the ball to create a few phases. Turned out exactly as I thought.
I thought Hleb and all the midfield played excellently, maybe not that great offensively, but they were all worked their socks off and Hleb in particular is great at passing it in-field when others seem to freeze and take the easy way out by passing back to defence.
Was it just me or was anyone else pissed off by Quincy’s attitude when he came on at the end. He couldn’t be bothered to run for the ball or track back while people like Ljungberg were running themselves into the ground. Needs a clip around the ear ;^)
September 27th, 2005 at 5:28 pm
A lot of people seem to be complaining about his attitude, lets just wait and see what happens. I am kind of worried about the credentials of this new guy Song. Its still early but he seems dodgy so far.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:29 pm
Looks whose back, where were you when the team was losing?
You obviously didn’t watch the game. Yes it was a good result, but were’nt going to win the Champions League with those players that’s for sure.
There’s no big secret about the system, the fact is that Ajax, with a team even younger and more inexperienced than ours, dominated the midfield for large parts of the game because Flamini (especially) and Fabregas simply didn’t have the muscle.
We did well with the players we had, but against top draw opposition we would have got battered.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:31 pm
Song is a baby who has played 5 minutes for Arsenal. What the hell do you expect?
September 27th, 2005 at 5:34 pm
Well even some newcomers inspire confidence. Senderos did. So did Ashley Cole when he first played for us.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:37 pm
As I said in my post I did not watch the game, ESPN was only showing Manure vs Benefica. Followed Arsenal on the Soccernet gamecast.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:37 pm
Yeah, Senderos ‘did’. These players need more games, more years. No point criticisng them, criticise Wenger for throwing them in too early.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:40 pm
No I dont believe Wenger is to blame for throwing them in too early.
September 27th, 2005 at 5:52 pm
No, didn’t think you would.
September 27th, 2005 at 6:06 pm
I’m going to keep to my words by not saying anything till we get into the semi finals.
But a quick one. Yes a win is a win but wasn’t impress one bit by the Arsenal and let me say it again yes we beat Ajax at home but damn if you think we are having problems then Ajax are not good. They had more possesion than us and more shots on or off target. We need some luck and today got it.
Let see what happens when we get into the next around. A long way to go.
September 27th, 2005 at 6:25 pm
vot exactly didnt impress u ..yes we cud have been better in the defensive third though sol was great.
and i think the makeshift pair up front did quite well.
September 27th, 2005 at 6:41 pm
You’re being a bit harsh on the performance. I think a 2-1 away win at Ajax is a positive result whichever way you look at it. There was nothing lucky about our goals, if the oppostion **AYE CARUMBA**(censored) up, that’s their problem - they should get better players. Ljungberg’s cool finish was superb.
I thought we did well, it wasn’t perfect - Lauren & Flamini were both poor, but otherwise everyone battled hard - Hleb was a gift to watch.
Yes, it was a good result, but no, there was not enough in the performance to warrant expectations of getting past the quarter finals.
September 27th, 2005 at 6:45 pm
man really loving reading all this frm u
good on u for calling it as u saw it
and not being excessively -ve…
atleast from gamecast it seemed falmini wasnt all tht bad i think he even won the ball for the first goal
i actually have a real soft spot for flamini is a real hard worker and never stops running…such players though not so talented really give it their all and never give up…refershing to watch
September 27th, 2005 at 6:58 pm
He was good for the first 20 minutes, but drifted out of the game fast. By the second half he was non-existant and Ajax were dominating midfield because of it.
September 27th, 2005 at 7:16 pm
scoring an early goal really makes it a lot easier for us
ofcourse tht is the case for all sides but esp more for us since we seem to let the pressure get to us at the back and in attack the longer we dont score. really shud look for a way to consistently score early (ofcourse easier said than done)
September 27th, 2005 at 9:45 pm
One of the best wingers we`ve had!
September 27th, 2005 at 10:11 pm
KYGunner, you forgot to mention that Marco Van Bastin came from Ajax …
Well, my whole point Arsenal beated a great team and away …
We know that Ajax is one of the most inconsistent teams … after they won in the CL in 95 and they stopped doing good. Well, of course, they sell their players every year.
Thune won, this prooves that Thune is not an easy team. Anyone made fun of us should shut up.
It sounds comfortable for us, we can book our ticket to the second round very soon.
— but the most important thing, we played another U21 team ..mmm so our young kids are good, they just need expereince. By the way, U21 team of Ajax (excpet their goal socorer) would be future stars as always …example: Kanu and Bergy , Babel and Maduro. So we beated the likes of Kanu and Bergy (10 and 15 years ago).. So in 2-3 years we will have better player than Bergy and Kanu in Arsenal … (JUST an anology)
September 27th, 2005 at 10:30 pm
ARSENAL TOTALLY DOMINATED AJAX
September 27th, 2005 at 11:27 pm
Well folks, you have to LOVE a win any day…
a win on the road is even better… and a win on the road in the CL… fantastic.
Didn’t see the match, and even freaking FoxSoccer didn’t show a damned highlight of our match either.
It didn’t sound as if we were overly impressive or dominant in any sense of the word… and Ajax had injuries and are very young, just like us… so let’s not get CRAZY with this win…
BUT… its great to win a match without Henry, Gilberto, and Bergy… thats impressive.
ANY win in the Champion’s League is both BIG and IMPORTANT… we have 6 points and are easily top… so things look really good for us to advance.
FC Thun BEAT Sparta. Thats fantastic. It means that our last gasp victory v. Thun looks a bit better!… and it means if we can get points v. Sparta in the next match, we’ll be sitting pretty in the group.
VERY positive result. I am very proud of the players for a good performance and a good win. We don’t pick the opponents, so you beat who they put out there against you.
I wish I saw the match… or even highlights… but in reading reports… you have to be happy with the win.
September 27th, 2005 at 11:30 pm
mars blackmon?
is that you Spike??!
September 27th, 2005 at 11:32 pm
Come on LoveG… I know it wasn’t exactly a win at Barcelona!! But a road win in the CL is cause for a smile! Its positive man!!!
Don’t get all down because Chad’s done for the season, and the Jets are going down without him!! Grandpa Vinny Testaverde is back for the Jets! Good Luck!!!!!!!!
September 28th, 2005 at 12:48 am
stag, if you don’t have directv then i suggest you get it now.
pay the extra $12 a month for setanta sport and you will see many champs league games, as well as standard euro faire (including the english championship), and some good old tussles from the past.
i’ve seen both arse games so far, and tivo’d juve-rapid vienna to see paddy. but i guess he was suspended? the delle alpi was absolutely empty. those fickle italians…
some may not have thought flamini played well, but his steal that led to reyes setting up freddy for the delightful scoop over the keeper, set the tone for the game. and, dare i say it, we took a page out of chelsea’s game and let THEM bring the game to us (you would have been proud!). their passing was crisp, and they had periods of control, but our defense was solid. cole marked babel out of the game. funny ajax played with him on the right when he tortured lauren in the pre-season. sol and kolo were strong and decisive.
we did not look like our normal selves going forward, but we damn got the job done and took the 3 points. nuff said.
as you say, it was an away win, so i don’t care who played how. we coalesced on the field and now lead the group by 3 points. six points out of six.
now to the weekend…
September 28th, 2005 at 1:12 am
I am satisfied with the result but not the performance. I don’t think there was any improvement over the West Ham game but we were missing more players. The first goal was very well taken. The penalty was a bit fortunate (I think). Reyes is gaining a bit of a reputation as a diver. The Sky Sports commentator kept saying that Reyes’ antics can make a Spanish referee in the CL give free-kicks and penalties but not in the premiership. I wish Reyes had the confidence to just go around the keeper and score like he did against Boro rather than “look” for a penalty. Other than the two goals, I don’t think we created much. Campbell and Toure were solid in defence and were a bit unfortunate to conceed a goal.
Ajax looked very much like an Arsenal team. Lots of passing and dribbling, but very little end product. At times, their kids were passing the ball much better than us and we are supposed to be the best passing team in the world. I wouldn’t worry about that because right now, all that matters is the result. In terms of that, this is a great one. It’s just the kind of result that could kick-start our season. An away win in the CL at Ajax without six first team players. We are sitting pretty in the CL. It’s time to translate such results into the premiership. Go Arsenal, Go!!!
September 28th, 2005 at 1:14 am
2-1 to Arsenal away - what more can you ask for…perhaps this is the best start in a CL season we have had for a while! The Ajax goal was more down to a great Galasek shot and fortunate rebound for rosenberg….
Great game - it seemed like a game between the stars of the future…whoever Arsenal had on subs bench Ajax had younger…this game proved that Almunia is a great shot stopper but has no command of the box area. He does not communicate very well with the defenders and that’s where Lehmann is head and shoulders above him by far!
My ratings for starting Arsenal:
Almunia - 6.5 (never soli but couple of good saves)
Campbell - 7.5 (Solid - two great last ditch tackles)
Toure - 7 (very brave and solid tonight)
Lauren - 6.5 (Hard working)
Cole - 7.5 (Great battle with Babel al night)
Cesc - 6.5 (Withdrawn roles in the side recently)
Flamini - 7 (Very hard working covered all pitch)
Pires - 7 (Glimpses of old Pires but great penalty)
Ljungberg - 7.5 (Tireless workhorse great chip goal)
Helb - 7.5 (Dribbled all night ball glued to his feet)
Reyes - 7 (Not his best game but solid)
By the way AW should consider buying Babel (this guy will be a star!) and De Jong….
September 28th, 2005 at 1:25 am
Actually, oddly enough, I can vouch for that he isn’t Spike… but he’s pretty cool anyway.
September 28th, 2005 at 5:25 am
Being the freaking nature of the Champions League, we got a better side last season yet ended up struggling early on. Our squad were stretched to the limit lately yet we ended up getting 6 points out of 6.
LoveG, if i have to be honest, i agree with what u said. The team’s performance is still far from convicing. And we did have a little luck going our way.
Nevertheless, giving that the depth of our squad has been stretched to the bare bone, we actually lost only ONCE (to Boro) since the absence of Henry, I’m satisified with the team’s performance and effort so far.
Again, patient is the key. The team’s result is bounced to have an up and down ride in the near future, giving the nature of the rather inexperienced young squad. bottom line is - i believe the team can only be getting better and better. But they won’t get better overnight, they can only get better by PLAYING.
One last note: tactical wise, i think the team showed an impressive discipline to defend as a team last night. The midfielders covered the back 4 very well. This is quite crucial in the CL ties.
September 28th, 2005 at 5:34 am
Mazza u r not alone on feeling pissed by Quincy’s attitude, i feel the same way. just look at the different approach by Clichy… who cares if Quincy is more talented than Clichy, we want players who’s committed to the clause.
September 28th, 2005 at 5:36 am
It’s worth remembering that this is by far the easiest group Arsenal have ever had in the Champions League.
Thun & Sparta are about as weak an opposition as you can get in this competition. Ajax are at their lowest ebb for many a year.
September 28th, 2005 at 6:38 am
Under the given circumstances it was a very good result.
Their goal resulted from a somewhat lucky bounce off the post from Almunia’s initial save that landed in the path of Ajax’s Rosenberg. Almunia proves that he is a great shot stopper once again but positional wise his awareness is sometimes suspect. If Ajax had gotten into the box more, Almunia could have found himself in hotter water. Credit to the back 4 as ‘Fawlty’ did not have to do too much other than 2 crucial saves and a well recovered fumble.
The sight of Toure being stretchered off with a head injury was a traumatic experience. At least the dreaded thought of Cygan coming on to face the Ajax on slaught subsided when Toure came back on and played even better. A very brave kid with a lot of character indeed.
Sol was pure class (albeit one mistake earlier in the game that could have costed us).
Cole & Lauren (fashion house merger?) were mostly solid and helped to aleviate some of the Ajax pressure by going forward.
The fact that Ajax dominated the majority of possession & play making illustrates the lack of depth in our CMs. It was not their fault though as they gave all they could. Against a better team things may have been much worse. However, Flamini’s play in the first half was quite good and his hustling helped to set up our 1st goal.
Apart from co-setting up the first goal brilliantly
and getting the call for the penalty, Reyes’ decision making was rather poor at times, though he ran his shorts off throughout.
Even Pires helped out the defense a lot (as best as he knows anyway) but wasn’t really there with the attacking. Well taken penalty.
Helb was good with the movement, passing & dribbling, but gave the ball away later in the second half when he appeared rather exhausted.
Freddy spent more time treking back and didn’t do much attacking. His goal was clinically finished; something that has been lacking from us lately.
I was quite pissed off at Quincy after he came on as he never once tried to contribute in helping out our midfielders & defenders in treking back when Ajax were constantly trying to go forward late in the game. It was illogical for him to stay upfield as there was no one there. He was the last substitute and should have had the most gas in the tank to make a run if opportunity arises for a counter attack. Wenger needs to talk to him.
September 28th, 2005 at 9:32 am
Did you watch the game?.. And if that impress you, well that is fine with me..
September 28th, 2005 at 9:39 am
You right as I said a win is a win special away to Ajax. But watching the game I did not see anything wicked about the team apart from Sol showing his experience and old heart.
He was by far the best player on the field and could not asked for more and if all the other lads were playing that hard I WOULD have out my money on us winning the league.
Oh God, As for the NY Jets what can I say. Gone from bad to worse. Might be back strong next season but that is what I said last season and they end up in the play off. New England not playing well so that is a plus.
Back to the Arsenal I hope for once we go past the 1/4’s. Long season but wait and see.
September 28th, 2005 at 9:40 am
Come back Scotty I know you got something to say.
September 28th, 2005 at 10:20 am
i agrree totally ozzy! that babel is an excellent player. i would love wenger to buy maduro, though. he is big and has presence and is young so wenger has no excuses;) . most importantly he is a central midfielder, who we currently only have 3 of. and van basten lets him starts every game for holland!
September 28th, 2005 at 10:23 am
Senderos didnt inspire much confidence in his first few games for the club. It was only when he got a decent run in the team towards the end of last season that you could sense he had great potential.
September 28th, 2005 at 4:20 pm
Bogged down with actual work today, L_G. Rest assured I’ll be replying soon to your usual cheeriness. ;^)
But I will say well done to the lads with an away win, in Europe no less, and while we still lack the cohesiveness and confidence to operate at full capacity, I believe, especially defensively, we’re getting there. We’ve set high standards for ourselves by the way we choose to play.
I also think Sol has been exemplary as a leader. It may take too long to see the entire picture of this club to overtake Chelsea, but anything can happen and I’m confident that in due time the depth and breadth of Wenger’s vision will be realized.
That is all. Oh, and you’re a grumpy Gooner.
September 28th, 2005 at 7:27 pm
Well it wasn’t exactly a biatch fest as I thought it might. Arsenal the wife looked good and I thought that Ajax was getting a bit shovey, just like the mistress. What a great game to watch. Yes Hleb was wonderful to watch.
I only have one complaint about the game. In Canada we got the ESPN sound feed. They have this Irish prick who just drives me nuts. Not a prick because he’s Irish, just an Irish Prick - similar to a Dutch prick but usually smaller :). The stuff this guy says makes me want to strangle the TV set. I pray for the day that as well as SAP they’ll provide just the sound of the game with no commentary on another sound bandwidth. I really, find it hard to listen to this guy who can’t ever find anything good to say about Arsenal. Did anyone else notice this?
September 28th, 2005 at 8:45 pm
Who was it, Seamus Malley or Tommy Smyth?
September 28th, 2005 at 9:34 pm
Well said sir!
Dude, no one wrote me the “I miss you stuff” as in “john why won’t you write us? when I was away. I guess I’m just too weird or make too many spelling mistakse - I am and I do — it’s ok, abnormal social behaviour is tolerated from artists. That is what I am paying my shrink, a lot of money, to tell me anyway!
However, I’m not so weird that I can also join the chorus of how much I enjoy your writings on Arsenal FC here on this site.
Last week, I had the feeling that the sky was falling! Henry had left for Spain. Flying Kick Van Persie karateed his way into a major suspension. Bergkamp actually got in an airplane and damn if it didn?t crash into Holland, Ashely comes out of the closet and wants to join Girls Aloud. We?ve lost two games, tied one and won two = 2-1-2 =. We were Hammered in one game to a draw for goodness sakes. It was all over man, the sky is falling. Then I just came here to ArseUSA, read some nasty posts about ?how it was over? in other people?s perspectives, I realized that my world was much worse off. Why not join the party this is better than ?citalopram?, or a lap dance in midtown. I?ve been writing nothing but nonsense since as you can see.
You on the other hand have a gift sir; your writing is polished and thorough. I enjoy reading it and appreciate your positive spin quite apart from my having fun with words above. Kudos? to you. The Gunners are proud!
Now I?m going to wrap myself in an Arsenal Flag, go to Times Square, and get a stripper to lap dance in it for me while guzzling down a pint of bitters.
Gerard
Ps. don?t censor me - who ever you are that does that job here. I am a family person, really. The above are all just artistic metaphors.
September 28th, 2005 at 9:39 pm
If memory serves me right and I could be wrong, I seem to keep hearing Tommy in my head.
No I’m not playing the Who’s opera!
The “in the back of the oinion bag” is one of his sayings for goal. They must have bloody big onions where he comes from.
Then I laugh and think he should see our ball sacks.
September 28th, 2005 at 9:53 pm
Tommy Smyth isn’t too bad, a bit of an arse yeah but Derek Rae takes the sting off him. The old onion bag line is a British classic, heard it since I was a kid.
September 28th, 2005 at 10:43 pm
Thanks.
In my opinion he makes some insufferable gaffs.
With tongue on cheek then.
All those oinions do for me is make me cry.
September 29th, 2005 at 1:45 am
You said it Gerard, everytime I hear ‘onion bag’ I want to scream him to shup up.
I sometimes have to mute the volume to not listen to these people. 2000 UEFA Cup Final, Arsenal vs Gala, I watched the entire game without volume because I could not stand the commentary. But that game was via the Fox feed and it was Max Bretos I think. He has improved since then but back in 2000, he was just starting to announce these games I believe.
In the end, I console myself with the fact that atleast we get to see these games here. Would be great if we got real commentary for these CL games for a change.
You ever see the 1992 European Cup Final between Barca and Sampdoria? We got that on tape delay on TSN and it was UK commentary. Class man….real class….
September 30th, 2005 at 8:48 am
I do remember commenting that you hadn’t posted in awhile, gerard (john?). At least its nice to know that my passion + time wasting = lack of productivity + some worthwhile reading.
Kind words, and I thank you. May you be forever uncensored.
?S
