Before everybody (fans, media, etc.) get completely apoplectic over the possibility of Chelsea winning, gasp!, two Premiership titles in a row, chew on this:
From 1892-1902 Aston Villa and Sunderland won nine of a possible 11 titles. They should have disbanded the league right there.
Huddersfield Town won three titles in row in the 1920s, and of course then went on to dominate English football for the next?two weeks.
Wolverhampton Wanderers won three of six titles in the ?50s.
Liverpool won a remarkable 10 of 15 titles from 1976 ? 1990. Since then Torquay United,...

Arsenal weren’t outclassed yesterday, but they were outplayed for much of the game. To my eyes Spurs wanted it just a bit more, especially in the first half…
Ledley King was completely unmarked on his goal. That’s inexcusable at this level…
Reyes seems like a nice kid and he tries real hard, but he’s useless. Things just don’t seem to happen when he’s a big part of the attack…
On the flip side, is it just me or does the Arsenal seem far more dangerous when RvP is on the pitch? He seems to be one of the few people who understand...

For those who have criticized Robert Pires as a “wash up”, they probably failed to realize a less eye-catching, but important asset of Pires’ game - the ability to hold on to the ball.
Arsenal likes to play an up-tempo attacking game, yet there are times you need to slow down. However, the midfield lineup of our current Arsenal side is too lightweighted to slow the game down. Take the starting midfield against Spurs as an example, Flamini, Cesc, Freddie are all undersized for today’s midfield players. Even they want to hold the ball up, they can’t. ...

Birthday boy Robert Pires saves the day for Arsenal as the Gunners escape Shite Hart Lane with a draw.
The first 60 minutes were the absolute worst 60 minutes of football Arsenal have played in a long, long time. It was absolutely abysmal. Sp*rs were dominating, and Arsenal couldn’t string two passes together, let alone create a scoring chance.
Thierry Henry was out injured, so it was Bergkamp and Reyes up front, but that wasn’t the problem. It was a midfield of Ljungberg,...

Today’s match against Spurs is one of those games. Very similar to last weekend’s Bengals-Steelers match. The Bengals, who have sucked for years got off to a hot start this season. They jumped out ahead of their bitter, and better, rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gametime and the Bengals fans are hyped, biggest crowd in years. Result? The Steelers stuffed the ball down their throats for 60 minutes and said, “come on back when you are ready to play big boy football.”
That is how you respond to a challenge from a bunch of punks like Spurs. I don’t want to win...

Believe it or not I associate with the occasional Spurs fan. Here’s John Thompson’s take on this weekend’s match:
With the month of November lurking around the corner, its hard to fathom that Spurs are residing in 2nd place. The derby match up on Saturday at home against the Gunners takes on even more importance as Tottenham fans are starting to believe that a spot in the Champions League can be had come next May.
Like any strong baseball team which has a solid spine consisting of a catcher, shortstop and center fielder, Spurs can claim the same with England...

If Arsene Wenger cared about the Carling Cup, then I guess I would too. But he does not, and so I won’t either. Wenger is sure to send out a group of youngsters, who need the experience. Sunderland are sure to send out their very best. So good luck to the young guns!
That said, I did watch the Newcastle-Sunderland match. If you missed it, here’s a quick note. If you see it’s on FSC don’t watch it until the 35th minute; watch for 10 minutes. That’s the match, though, Newcastle got a winner in the second half. The match was nothing but Newcastle possession....

This weekend I’ve been behind enemy lines, doing business in Manchester. Here’re the details…
Working in PR with a couple of clients who are FIFA World Cup sponsors, I do my fair share of traveling and dealing with footballing’s best and brightest. This weekend it was a trip to Manchester to do some work with Tim Howard, who is a MasterCard spokesperson.
Before leaving, I had the opportunity to get a ticket to the Spurs - ManU match. On one hand, it’s always nice to take in a match, especially when you can see two decent sides in a famous venue.
Now...

Hello all, Rick Liebling here. I’m in Manchester today and will fill you all in on my recent football-related adventures soon, but just a quick word on yesterday’s incident.
If nothing else, trying a stunt like that shows that the team (or at least Henry) is loose. A tight, nervous club wouldn’t try that. Now, you could argue that the poor execution shows they (or at least Pires) were a bit tight. But my point is that I like to see the brashness come back to Arsenal.
Now don’t ever do that again!

Arsene Wenger can celebrate his 56th birthday with a win, but it was definitely a strange one, as Arsenal barely beat Man Citeh 1-0.
Even with Thierry Henry leading the side, the Gunners seemed to be misfiring as it were. Citeh were able to match them for the majority of the match. However, Arsenal earned two penalties during the second half, one which earned them the three points, and the second which will live on in infamy.
Having already converted a spot kick in the 60th minute to give the Gunners the...
