Tottenham-Arsenal Preview: A Spurs Fan’s Perspective Sp*rs 1 - 1 Arsenal
Oct 29

Today’s match against Spurs is one of those games. Very similar to last weekend’s Bengals-Steelers match. The Bengals, who have sucked for years got off to a hot start this season. They jumped out ahead of their bitter, and better, rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gametime and the Bengals fans are hyped, biggest crowd in years. Result? The Steelers stuffed the ball down their throats for 60 minutes and said, “come on back when you are ready to play big boy football.”

That is how you respond to a challenge from a bunch of punks like Spurs. I don’t want to win 1-0 today, I want to win 4-0. Show them what real football is, show them what a real footballer looks like. Let them know in no uncertain terms that they’ve got a LONG way to go before they can even hold our jockstraps.

A win against Spurs, and then it’s games against Sunderland, Wigan and Blackburn. 12 points and things are going to look a lot different. We need a big commitment from the players and the fans. Especially against those humps from White Hart Lane.

Up the Arse!

Your absolutely right Rick, all the talk is of spurs becoming something of a force. That may or may not be so they have certainly signed plenty of promising talent but now it is still Arsenal who should respond in a quiet and calculated manner and come out emphatic winners!

I do think that it will be an absolute cracker of a game and Arsenal will win but the scoreline may be close. I doubt a repeat of last seasons 5-4 will be repeated. Henry is out but compensated somewhat by the returning Reyes, Campbell, and importantly for this game I feel Ljungberg. I also hope that Wenger starts with Van Persie upfront.

    3-1 or 2-1 to Arsenal!

It’s only when the scum are playing well that I realise how much I really do hate them and their scummy fans.

ManUre and Chavski may be closer to us in football terms but ther’s nothing like a real derby game to bring out the passion.

I’ll be watching the game in a pub that will have a few scummers in it. If it’s anything like last year we’ll probably be barred from there as well.

On a different note, if Saddadm gets the death penalty he wants Pires to take it.

KEEP THE FAITH, HATE THE SCUM

  3. Mazza Says:

Why doesn’t he **AYE CARUMBA**(censored) start with Van Persie?!

Our away EPL poor form continues. Down at half time to a King’s goal. Too many stray passes. Giving away the ball too easily. Spuds came with a gameplan and pack the midfield and middle of defence - Arsenal’s preferred route to goal. No width. First touch is awful - nerves? Could have been 2 down at half-time. Lehmann made a great save from Jenas. Spuds are shooting on sight. And going hard and fast on tackles. No time for Arsenal to settle down. Bergkamp was largely anonymous - van Persie shud have started. Lauren is shaky - unnecessary talking to a cheating Mido. Let the ref do his job.

Hoping for van Persie to come on in the 2nd half and score the equalizer. It looks like a confidence thing with the boys. Unfortunately Spuds currently have lots of it. Come on, Arsene, talk to the boys.

    Come on boys! 1-1 draw.

    Happy 32nd birthday Bobby!

A much much better performance overall in the 2nd half. Defence was more stable and confident. Pires really made the differences in the 2nd half by providing width. Why does Wenger persist with Fabregas on the right when it does not work? van Persie also came on to very good effect and allowed Bergkamp to be more iinvolved playing in a deeper role. Spuds were on their backs without much of a meaningful attack except for a strong run from Defoe resulting in a good save from Lehmann’s leg.

Finally a point from an away EPL game. I’ll take it. My man of the match gotta be Pires. The way he took his goal was pure class. Can the boys build their season on their play of the 2nd half?

  6. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

What makes you so sure we’ll beat Wigan? Or even Blackburn.

We nicked 1-1 draw with Spurs which really does nothing for us.

  7. stag133 Says:

Really poor first half in which the Totts pushed us around … scored UNMARKED on a header from King… and really controlled the run of play. We created f-all in the first half. We’ve seen this a lot from our team this season. I’m sorry all you Cesc lovers… but he doesn’t do much for so far this season. Cesc / Flamini / Gilberto in the same midfield? PATHETIC.
Cesc on the right is non-existant…

2nd half… with Pires on… much better… we looked more confident… moved the ball around better… Cesc in the middle was a “bit” better… and when VanPersie came on for the injured again Freddie… we took control of the game…
Nice goal from Pires… we had a few good chances to score in the 2nd half… and were much better defensively in this half as well. Different game.
We played well in the last 45… and definitely deserved the draw.

We still give the ball away needlessly from midfield… we still had the screw-up against the set-piece. Our set-pieces sucked…
but we got a draw at WHL.
Not great… but certainly not a bad result against a pretty good Spurtz team.

Happy Birthday Super Bob… Pires saves the day with a well taken one-timer…

i wouldn’t categorize this as “stepping up,” but at least it wasn’t a loss today. in the first half, we looked like warmed over dog sh*t, and the second started the same way. our passing was atrocious, sp*rs were getting in behind us left and right, and we barely put a shot on for 60 minutes! king’s goal was a nice one, but any of us could score from close range totally unmarked! we lacked presence and composure today, and it showed. what happened to the “kings of possesion?” we struggled to string three passes together, and we either misplayed or gave away a host of opportunities. flamini was totally transparent as usual, and gilberto was silenced by that early yellow card. why AW continues to start MF in the center of midfield is beyond me. he is an outside player, and a sub at best. fabregas should start alongside gilberto in the middle every time. why was pires benched today? could it be the “arrogant” penalty botch from last week? well whatever the case, he saved our asses today.

i thought the men of the match for us were clichy, who deputised well for cole, and van persie, who threatened many times as a late sub in front of goal. without him, we were outshot something like 10-2! bergkamp seemed shaky towards the end, and he should never be playing the full 90 anyway!

for sp*rs, defoe had a solid match and was unlucky not too score- credit to lehmann! mido is a total prat, diving and crying more than greg louganis. dawson was a second keeper, making more saves than robinson. it seems like we always have some no-name player who has a huge match against us then drops back into relative obscurity. overall, they were a tough opponent today, outmuscling us on several occasions and taking our flow of posession away from us. they clearly had more chances on goal, but part of that is due to our lack of willingness to PULL THE F*CKING TRIGGER!

of course, all of this would be moot if we had our real team leader in the side– the indomitable HENRY!! i hope AW hasn’t rushed him back too early, and above all i hope we don’t lose him in the coming months.

arsenal till i die, but that one would hurt more than we can know.

  9. Mazza Says:

Heard Reyes played like a complete prat today. No matter how “content” he is it seems he can never be relied upon to produce the goods consistently. He deserves a bit of slack after what he has done this season though.

Again Wenger’s team selction is pathetic. What is he trying to do? destroy Van Persie’s confidence. It seems the better Van Persie plays the less chance he has of being picked in the next game. Bergkamp is now officially a waste of space starting games.

Agree that Flamini/gilberto/Cesc just doesn’t work. Leave Cesc in the middle.

I would have loved to have had Hleb at our disposal today. Apparently Spurs were very tired at the end and i could just imagine him slaloming through the midfield and setting up a winner.

  10. stag133 Says:

VanPersie actually plays a lot better coming off the bench…
Reyes tries his ass off… every match, I won’t fault him for that at all…

We have too many players that go down too easily when a tackle gets near them… instead of muscling their way thru… thats called too much finesse.

We had them going in the last 30 minutes… all their bravado was gone… and they were hanging on.

  11. Afrikan-Gooner Says:

You don’t pay 10 or 17 or 20 Million or how much it was for a player to be ‘trying his ass off’. The tie has long come and gone for this player to be benched so others can be given a chance. Reyes has been a massive failure, value for money perhaps the worst signing ever at Arsenal. I doubt Quincy could do any worse. This team has too many journey men, like Flamini, Reyes, and even increasingly Gilberto who clearly is no better than those he plays with. Like I say our mid-table position is a perfect reflection of what we have become.

  12. Clarkey Says:

    Too right.

  13. joshuad Says:

Reyes has just come back from injury and considering how thin the team is, probably too soon, I really don’t know how Wenger sees our team being a team that is good enough to win anything this year or even qualify for the CL next year. I hope it works out but things are going pretty bad. If the season were to end today we’d barely make the UEFA Cup.

  14. stag133 Says:

It could easily be argued that REYES has been the best player on the Arsenal team this season.
I doubt Quincy could do much better. From what he has shown this season, he needs an attitude adjustment.

    You can’t be a “journey man”… at aged 20 or 21.
    Your terminology is not correct.

    Gilberto?
Yes, ummm, I’ll tell you what… he misses partnering with a certain someone, whom shall remain nameless… perhaps that other player made Gilberto look better than he was, instead of the other way around.

    and…
    Manchester United.
    Embarrassed today at Boro 4-1.
Chelsea have WON THE LEAGUE before November… let alone by Xmas.
United needed a LEADER today. (something we could do with) They needed a leader in midfield especially. There are those rumors out there that say they have interest in “you know who”.
    If I were them… I’d get him in January…

  15. Clarkey Says:

Jesus Stag, that’s what you’re having a go at Mazza for, incorrect terminology?

Maybe you… SHOULD… consider using more proper GRAMMAR… before you SLATE others… particularly your LOVE… of ellipsis…

    Umm, just a thought…

  16. stag133 Says:

    Actually Clarkey…
no… I wasn’t “HAVING A GO” at Mazza, or anybody else… and it certainly wasn’t SLATING.
so don’t make it more than it was.

Simply…AG called two kids, JOURNEY MEN…
thats not possible at aged 20.

    Get over it.
