Why Henry Decided To Stay The signings that will satisfy King Henry
Jan 11

The ArsenalAmerica spring roadtrip is:

April 1, Aston Villa.

Yup, that’s it. One game. We’ve gotten clearance from Arsenal to take over a good group to see Arsenal v. Aston Villa. We are looking for fans to join us on our Spring roadtrip who are interested, and willing, to see JUST ONE GAME. And even then, we have to remember that fixture congestion could result in some games being moved, rescheduled, etc. If you are that type of fan, you’ll need to let Andrew know as soon as you can. He will reply to emails and seek deposits on tickets (yea, you are going to have to pay for your place).

Now, here comes the fun part.

The week prior to that we are away at Portsmouth. We’ve been told by our beloved Rick B that he thinks he can swing a number of tickets for us for that match.

The T/W before (and after) Villa is a Champions League semi-final match. Arsenal and Rick B. will do “what they can” to help us find tickets if we are still in that tournament, though it might require some of us to fly to Europe to see a game (maybe–no promises). However, if it is Chelsea or Barcelona, we’ve been told to basically “forget it” as those will be tough tickets.

Oh, the week after Villa, we are away at Old Trafford to face Manchester United. Again Rick B. is going to look for tickets for that, but really–don’t hold your breath. It will be a tough one.

So, what are we looking for: rabid fans who want to see Highbury one last time and are willing to fly over to see just one game (Villa) which may or may not be reschedule. More flexible travellers may get lucky and see a second–but we CANNOT make any promises on this at this time (don’t buy airline tickets to those matches)

Priority will be given to those who haven’t been to Highbury before, and then those who haven’t been this year. Wives, kids, significant others, business colleagues and anyone else who would “take a seat” from a real fans are NOT invited (they’re taking a seat from someone who really wants to go–remember that). If they are fanatics that is another story, but we’ll be watching. In addition–no expats living or studying or working in the UK. Only Americans (and a few Canadians for flavor) coming over for these games.

EXTREME FLEXIBILITY REQUIRED. If you are a “buy 10 weeks in advance airline ticket” type you might end up eating your airfare if the game is moved.

REPEAT: EXTREMELY FLEXIBILITY REQUIRED!

I’m out to lunch so I won’t get back to you until later.

    Andrew,

I like your commitment. All that way for one game.
Wow. How about mid March for Liverpool and Charlton, with perhaps a FA Cup game a few days later? Hopefully the football will pick up when you come over.

I am a London lad and enjoy my football but you should try and take in a couple of games.

The games we pick are given to us by the Club, otherwise we’d go for Real Madrid and Liverpool. But it’s just no possible to do that. So Villa it is. Pompey I will be able to get enough tickets for those who want to go, and for Man U I hope to get 10. We’ll have to hope and see about Champions League.

    One game’s all I need.

    Unfortunately,
I had to plan ahead of this announcement…
I will be in London for the Liverpool & Charlton.
    March 12th & March 18th.
I am PRAYING that those dates don’t change.

Surely, the trip, even for one game will be worth it for those going… to see Highbury one last time.
You should try and see a match at another stadium while in London… Fulham? Charlton? QPR? Crystal Palace? Squeeze some football into your time here.
I’d recommend the Stadium tour if its available as well… its great to see Highbury from the INSIDE out!

As “my dates in London” approach… I hope to organize a meet pre-match with any London based Arsenal Americans who are interested.
I think LoveG is going to beat me up or something? so it should be interesting!!!!!!

Thanks to Andrew, Jill, Katie and Rick for making these arrangements. Since I’ve already made arrangements with Rick, and others, I think I’ll still be going over for the WBA and Spurs matches two weeks later.

  6. stag133 Says:

    Hear Hear…
Andrew Jill Katie Rick… and probably others do a BRILLIANT job of organizing this stuff, all for us.
    THANK YOU.

Your welcome to join my mini-trip Scotty!
I had to give my time-off notice before the trip was announced… I’ll be in london / paris for 8 days… sort of a wedding anniversary / goodbye to Highbury trip, all rolled into one! (Shhhhhh… don’t tell the wife!)
I’ll be there for Liverpool & Charlton.
