Bolton 1 - 0 Arsenal Robin Van Persie deserves better!
Jan 28

I have been reading and monitoring this site for a while now but never responded. I now feel it is time to add my two cents. What is up with all of the negative, downer s**** with you guys? At first glance I thought some Man Ure, Russian Mob, or f****** Spurs fans had infiltrated the ranks. Where is the support? Wake up, lay off the pipe, and actually think for a change. Sure we are struggling now, but what transition ever goes smoothly? So what if we sacrifice one or two years to finish 3rd or 4th with the payoff being a decade of dominance! Right now we are loaded with young developing talent. Add a frontline goalie, 1-2 mean & bulky midfielders , and hopefully Torres and we have the makings to be THE team to beat for several years. And who knows what moves may be in making? No matter the sport all great teams go through this phase, swithching from one generation to the next. Now it’s our turn. So stop whining like a bunch of b*tches and support OUR team! We are Gooners and we are proud, so stop running down the players whose jerseys you will all be wearing 3-4 years from now. Give them the support they deserve and they will deliver the silverware we all cherish, AND STOP THE HATING or go back to the cow pasture you call home!

Yess. That’s what I want to hear. But, what do you expect? To hear Wenger saying: ok, we are in a transitional year, so don’t expect silverware from us this and next year (how to keep henry if you say so). The only questionable issue for now is, how to keep mature senior players which are to be model role for the yougsters? Every goal we received in a recent period is a result of a defence misunderstanding (as a partial result of Cole/Clishy absence), or not enough physical presence in midfield. I have enough patience to wait for our team to get more stability. Off course we are a proud gooners. I think this is the year in which arsenal team will resolve all long-term crucial “issues” on financial and sporting level: the situation will be more clear after stadium shift, the new signings will be involved heavily also.

  2. NorthBankGunner Says:

Now look mate, you have your opinion and I’ll have mine. This so called transition was a lot more f-ing bumpier than it should have been, Wenger blew a few major decisions that has put us in a hole. Two tough and skilled midfielders left (Vieira & Edu) and were replaced with skilled kids, along with that Ljungberg & Pires were past their best before the season started and although Lehman has played ‘not bad’ he is not totally inspiring is he. Other problems were beyond Wengers control…Ash’s & Clichy’s breaks, Sol’s & Senderos’s loss of form at the back, Reyes shooting blanks, Gilberto’s loss of form! Funny how he’s gone from ‘most missed’ to ‘most crap’ …..no wait that title belongs to Cygan. To put it blankly “Caligooner” I think we will be brilliant again, possibly next season with a few signings, but this season’s bull*hit could have been avoided! Yeah Chelsea are better equiped this season and would probably have won the league anyway, but it would have been down to the last few weeks - not by bleeding Christmas mate! Ive got no problem with you heading off down Hyde Park corner and jumping on your soap box expressing your views, but if your going to drop F-Bombs and call people bitches expect some verble back you Yanky pillock!

  3. stag133 Says:

    OK…
    another Pom - Pom waver…
Get out your yah-yah sticks and say we are wonderful or we’re “hating”?
    Get real, will you please.
We are loaded with a bunch of “POTENTIAL” that sure hasn’t come thru this season, and there is no proof to say that it definitely will…
We are more likely to continue being dominated on the road than us having your dreamworld “decade of dominance”.

What the hell makes you think Wenger would buy TORRES? When was the last proven player you remember us buying???? Do you really think thats going to happen? We needed help NOW and he bought 3 kids in the January window, geared towards 2009!!!

Its an open forum mate… so we have every right to vent our frustration and dissapointment with the team, AND the effort the players and management have made this season.
Today’s effort was much better than we’ve seen recently on the road, but the management side was PISS POOR. No sub came on and we left Bergy and Pires in the stands… we fielded a better team for a Carling Cup match than the FA Cup match…
    Thats NOT ON… sorry… thats f’n stupid.
Go back to lurking if you can’t deal with it.

Ahh!! the sweet sound of ‘fickle’ long may it continue.

  5. sidyid Says:

Yes go on argue amongst yourselves, Its what I have been experiencing for years as a Tottenham supporter.
Please allow us to gloat (it may not last long).
This is a glitch for Arsenal fans, remember that Tottenhams glitch has lasted a couple of decades and we have had to put up with a lot from gooners so please allow us the pleasure for a short while I am sure you will be back.
    Come on you Spurs.

  6. Desert_Gooner Says:

F**king spot on mate - it’s all these bloody glory hunters that have never really experienced Arsenal like this before, so instead of supporting the manager and this fantastic bunch of youngsters, all they do is bleat.

Just remember, we call Old Twatford fans “The Moaners”, so if that’s what you are, f**k off over there!

    Cheers,
    Desert Gooner

  7. Ozzy Says:

I tell you what stag just for the next 12 months stop watching football or just take a sabbatical from supporting Arsenal and go watch Barcelona or Real Madrid or AC Milan for the next 12 months. I know you support Arsenal otherwise why would care and get upset right?? Well we care also and if we show some positive attitude towards our beloved Arsenal it’s because we hate seeing them struggle. But we also know what AW has built and is building further yet - difference is that when Arsenal are successful again you guys will all of a sudden start to love AW and the Board of directors and the players while us positive guys will not change much but still say same things we are saying now - see the difference!

Enjoy your criticizing as much as you want while your at it try and criticize other teams also and try and cheer on Arsenal also once in a while mate!!

  8. love_Gunners Says:

What a load of crap again. So what is the solutions Mr Positive or is this another cheap shot without any solutions. Football teams are not waiting ducks.

  9. Clarkey Says:

It’s not crap mate, it’s just another way of looking at things. Mind, I don’t think they Positives Petes are right, but I can understand the sentiment.

Sometimes you just need to allow yourself a little breather, and remember things could be alot worse. Arsenal are in a serious situation, yes, but serious relative to their recent greatness. Arsenal is not in a grave situation like that of Wimbledon or Leeds.

Sometimes I think that if we had some of the really negative people here around back then, we’d have made Churchill resign days after Dunkirk.

  10. Curtisimo Says:

    Clarkey, well put.

“Arsenal are in a serious situation, yes, but serious relative to their recent greatness.”

That’s what the “Positive Pete’s” really mean. At least I know that’s what I mean b/c after the Invincibles season the only way to go was down. That’s the problem with being succesful, esp. for a lenghty period of time, as soon as the results & perofrmances take a wobble, out come the crucifiers & the naysayers.

And just a comment about yours of Churchill. I know a lot of people over in the UK do not support the war in Iraq but there’s a sizeable camp over here in the States that believes similarly of Pres. Bush to what you said about Churchill. The casualties in Iraq are miniscule at best compared to the 1st day of D-Day (if I recall correctly, U.S. forces lost 1500 men in a little more than an hour on the 1st day, couple that with British losses & all of a sudden by today’s media the operation is quickly becoming a ‘failure.’) & if the modern media conglomerates had been around to cover D-Day, they’d've been calling for the withdrawal of troops from Europe & calling what turned out to be a lengthy yet succesful operation a “quagmire” or “military & policy failure.”

YO EDITOR! Any chance you can stop posting these articles? I feel like I have deja vu every fortnight. I feel like I have deja vu every fortnight.

No offence to caligooner, but it’s been like this for over a year and it’s almost as predictable, but far less fun, than the weekly ‘Who should Arsenal sign?’

  12. CDNGooner Says:

Positive Petes and Negative Nicks . . . they are all fans of Arsenal and have their opinion. I’m more of a positive pete but I have some negative nick moments. Most of us have read Fever Pitch and totally understand what it means to be a supporter.

However, whether you are a pete or nick, I just say - get over it. If Arsenal are winning fantastically, then it’s good to be positive but not overwhelmingly smug about it; if Arsenal are losing horrifically, then don’t sound like a broken record and whine whine whine. It’s basically as bad as Wenger’s excuses. Just state your point and let it be.

  13. stag133 Says:

Yes… the wonderful arguement rears its head on cue:
    a) if you aren’t in your 40’s or 50’s and suffered thru the mediocre seasons, you aren’t a REAL supporter, your just a glory hunter.
Can’t be young or new to the Arsenal and really support them?
    b) throw in the “f-off OVER THERE” part… so that we also know that we can’t really be supporters because we are from “over there” or the States.

    Brilliant stuff.
    Keep it coming.
Try a little variety next time…

  14. stag133 Says:

I cheer and support AND criticize and complain. Its my right as a fan.
I do it with all the teams I support, be it the Boston RedSox, the Philadelphia Flyers or the Arsenal Football Club.

If the season has been poor and management is at fault and the players underperform… believe me… I am going to complain about it. I pour my heart and soul into supporting my teams, travelling to see them… and paying my hard earned money on their gear.

I’ll be here criticizing, supporting, condemning, and anything else I want to say…
You do NOT have to read it if you don’t like it. You can bypass my responses. Nobody is making you read them. Thats on YOU.

  15. Clarkey Says:

You totally misread that over there part, Stag. He meant OVER THERE as OVER THERE [WITH THE OTHER MAN U SUPPORTERS]

  16. NCGunner Says:

It?s hard to list all of the reasons why I disagree with that post ? but here are the top 10 ?

    10. The idea that ?real? fans ignore reality is ridiculous. A lot of posts are negative because the team has been mediocre to lousy all year ? to ignore that and pretend otherwise is foolish

    9. This is not a transition ? this ahs been a 3 year systematic sell off to save money to fund the new stadium.

    8. As a result of the sell off we are not 1 or 2 players away from reclaiming a top spot in the league ? management has left holes to fill in goal, central defense, central midfield, the wing and upfront ? and that?s just for the starting XI, forget about quality depth

    7. ?So what if we sacrifice one or two years to finish 3rd or 4th with the payoff being a decade of dominance? ????? What in the would makes you think we have a lock on 3rd or 4th ? we are well behind the top 3 and unless we start producing much better performances are not likely to catch Spurs for 4th.

    6. While we are at it ? exactly which players are going to lead us to this decade of dominance? Certainly not Sendoros or Flamini. Reyes has yet to improve. Cesc is the single most overrated player in the league. Certainly there are others that seem to have a brighter future — Van Persie, Diaby (although that?s based on one game), Gilbert, and now Walcott. Fine we have some talent but I?m not sure I see a dominant team in it.

    5. Oh and by the way, exactly where is all this cash to buy the ?few? players we need? We have concentrated on catching ?lightning in a bottle? with low cost youngster ? you think we are suddenly going to find a big bag of cash to spend on Torres???

    4. A supporter has an obligation to voice displeasure when the team is going in the wrong direction ? Professional sports are a business and management?s job is to maximize profits. If fans are sheep and refuse to protest when management screws up, management has no incentive to spend $$$ to right the ship.

    3. At what point did Arsenal go from being a big market team like the Red Sox to being a small market team like the Twins that has to suffer through years of poor teams to build up enough talent to be competitive?

    2. The approach we are taking is not ?developing? our young talent ? it?s ruining it. Sendereos has pushed too fast and now his head is so screwed up he wets his paints if he sees a picture of Drogba. Reyes? confidence is on empty. Cesc has become a frustrated whiner because he is being forced into playing against full grown men before his time.

    1. And finally, your post suggests that this is part of some well thought out plan ? I thin that?s hogwash! The pattern here seems clear ? the team has been caught flat footed by the debt associated with stadium and now has to cut, cut, cut that?s not a plan; it?s desperation.

  17. NorthBankGunner Says:

“61 AND NEVER AGAIN!”….Now I’ve already forgot about yesterday’s Tottenham like performance!!

  18. NorthBankGunner Says:

You left out the part where Wenger and Hoddle got together back in the 80’s and planned this whole thing! Clever little bastards!!

  19. stag133 Says:

I’d say your post is very much on target.
Well thought out and makes a lot of sense.

Some folks can’t deal with it. They don’t want the facts. They think we should just accept mediocrity and be happy that Arsenal have done well in recent times.

So you’ll be lambasted as negative and told to go take a break from football, or stop being negative because you’re not a real supporter.

But I appreciate your comments and find them to be very much the truth.
    Cheers

  20. love_Gunners Says:

Thanks and well said. Someone with sense and talking like a fan with common sense. As someone said in the pub today not all gunners are that naive and stupid. Most folks here don’t see the difference between right and wrong but excuses.

    Thanks again for your comments.

  21. gerard Says:

Hey remember that whether it’s good shite or bad shite is still all shite.

I think the negative perspective helps to inform my positive perspective and thus am grateful for it. So we soldier forward as fans of a club we all love.

So if were dealt shite we might as well us it as fertilizer. Now if you ask me there’s a lot of shite flying around these days from both perspectives and we might as well grow something in it.
    Respect!

  22. ScottyUS Says:

Trust me, caligooner, all fans and supporters are the same wherever you go. It called being human. We’re obsessed and we vent. If we took a day before we did, it’d smell like roses around here.

I don’t even care that you called me a **AYE CARUMBA**(censored), but how did you know I lived in a cow pasture?

  23. Clarkey Says:

Hey Stag, I notice you never apologize after you’ve misinterpreted and then pounced on someone. Why is that?

  24. stag133 Says:

Depends on who it is Clarkey.

  25. Clarkey Says:

What’s the criteria then for you to step off your high horse?
