Big victory for the Arsenal today…
    Kudos all around.
4-0 and it could have been 8-0 just as easily.
Both Real Madrid and Fulham have made the case of HOW NOT TO PLAY ARSENAL.
They didn’t pressure us much, left us loads of space and let us run rampant up the left side.
What happens… we look like Champs today.

Freddie was excellent, both going forward and tracking back all match long. Everybody played well… We didn’t give Fulham a good chance all match… and we created so many I lost track.

Didn’t start Reyes OR Cesc, and they were not missed at all. Didn’t need them in the team today.
Cesc comes on late and scores the 4th… bravo.
Because that means LOVEG … in his infinite wisdom, hits his wager of Arsenal winning by 4 goals or more… at 23-1 odds.
That means… SCOTTY and I… aren’t paying for the beers … LoveG is! yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!!!!!!
    Nice one LoveG…

    Brilliant today. Positive all around.
Bolton LOSE. West Sham Draw. We get a big solid win on the road… in a cake walk match, that wasn’t physical at all… in any sense of the word. Thats how NOT to play us.
Now its Madrid at home on Wednesday.
    COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!!!!!

Great, great effort all-around — A couple of observations

Flamini is proving homself to be a valuble utility player - may never be the next Gattuso and certainly is not a nartural left back, but he’s earning his keep.

There is no doubt we look much better without Cesc in the game — in order to let the strikers and wingers do their thing we need two physical central mnidfielders to control the center of the field. We continue to look better with Diaby partnering Gilberto

Finally, we may look back on this game as the one when the light went on for Hleb. He was more comfortable and confident with the balland played it more quickly today. He tracked back pretty well too.

    Absolutely outstanding!!!!!

Didn’t see the game yet, but read that TH got a standing ovation from Fulham fans…So, let’s lay off the criticisms of TH for while..He is allowed to brood every once in a while…The guy has to play almost every minute of every match…Human nature if he is not feeling 110% every game. Still the best player in the EPL and arguably the world.

Yes it was a great win but lets not forget Fulham did not press much when Arsenal had the ball. Quite a different game compared to against the likes of Blackburn, Bolton and Everton. Ljunberg really came alive in this game and together with Henry, tormented the right side of Fulham. Could have easily been 7-0 or 8-0. Starting Diaby instead of Cesc certainly provided more ball winning capability in the middle of the park - Gilberto had one of his better game today. That allowed Ljungberg and Helb to attack Fulham and setup chances for Henry and Adebayor. Was surprised that Henry did not come off earlier to rest for the Real Madrid game.

yeah, it was good stuff today, the fact we are suprised by winning away is a real shame though!
On to Madrid now! If you guys get a spare minute please check out http://thearseclub.blogspot.com

As those cartoon blokes in the Guiness ads (and most of Ireland) say: “BRILLIANT!”

Exhale: such a needed three points from the road.

And done in style too, with four in the net. Great to see Henry double as we head back into CL play and for Cesc to come off the bench, add someting and take his goal.

Word on the street is that Freddie is back–thank you, thank you. He is an experienced talent, capable of leading the entire team by example.

Now 10 more to go lads. Creep up that table and take Europe by storm. C’mon you Gunners!

Great win for us. But the commentator put a nice perspective on the game. He said -

“Arsenal were great, but Fulham allowed them to be.”

That’s how things are now. When we win, it’s because the opposition have allowed us to, not because we did well. It’s quite sad because it IS partly true. Our finishing was very poor. We created more chances that we might have done all season long away from home.

Only Henry finished well. Adebayor, despite his goal, leaves something to be desired. When he takes a first-time shot, it is weak. When he takes a first touch, well, the moment is gone.

Ljunberg had so many chances to score but couldn’t. He played well otherwise. Hleb and Diaby too missed gilt edged chances. Despite winning 4-0, we made a hero of the opposition goalkeeper.

Diaby’s tackles are still mis-timed. He was the only player to get a yellow card. I fear he might see red in a tight game soon. Eboue looks great going forward. He linked well with Hleb. But over-elaborate play did not help.

Away from home, I think Gilberto + Fabregas is not going to work. Fabregas is too lightweight and Gilberto can’t tackle. Only when Diaby plays, Gilberto can afford to relax. And Fabregas is not suited for right side of midfield either.

I would love to see Wenger play 4-5-1 away from home, with Gilberto and Diaby sheilding the midfield, Hleb or Fabregas or Bergkamp making the play, Henry (Reyes) on the left (like Ronaldinho), Ljunberg (Walcott) on the right and RvP (Adebayor) up front. I only hope we don’t lose out on Henry’s finishing.

A note about Henry. He has come in for a lot of stick in recent away games. I too have felt that he hasn’t been giving his best in some games. But yesterday, he was superb. I think the key is the first goal. As soon as we score it, it givs him freedom to do whatever he wants. If the opposition scores first, there is too much pressure and there isn’t enough support for him which leads to frustration (for him and us). I can only hope he stays irrespective of what happens.

    Wenger’s bizarre post-match comments continue

‘We knew we could not drop any more points’

Did we realise that just now???

Great arsenal display. I have to admit I was quite glad. Arsenal thrashed fulham as expected. Fulham isn’t a physical side and arsenal will always come out ontop against the lesser physical sides. But believe me should we play blackburn again we’ll look like the away side that has shown all season.

Diaby is proving his worth and is moreless like vieira….
Hleb should always play….as a first team regular especially against the lesser physical sides and bergkamp needs to retire.
excellent display from adebayor. this guy will soon be doing 20+ a season in goals.

    Snippet from ANR

“Journalist Martin Samuel, made a point that Arsenal now are the classic ‘Southern Softy’ team - losing at Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Bolton, Blackburn, Everton, Liverpool and Blackburn - but in the Spring sunshine of London - stroll around and win 4-0.”

Very interesting and relevant point. The other three defeats came at the hands of Chelsea, West Ham and West Brom.

Thankfully, we have only four away games left - Portsmouth, ManU, Man City and Sunderland. We must win against the relegation candidates. ManU could be a defeat while Man City could go either way.

    Yes yes and yes..

I should have be ?400 rich this morning but was playing it safe like Wenger but came back with enough to get you and Scotty lots of drinks next weekend.

As for the game nothing apart from a win was expected from this team against Fulham. Good win all the same and hope we do the same against Liverpool next.

  12. KCGooner Says:

We did a good job of controlling the midfield yesterday. Im still not sure about Diaby. He’s young and finding his legs, but I see him making a lot of clumsy challenges. Also, he had a great open shot just in front of the goal line with the just the keeper to beat and he couldnt do it. Either way its nice to have some options in the midfield. Im happy Adebayor scored yesterday, but he should have scored another. He seemed to hesitate to long in front of the goal or pass the ball to someone with a less open shot than his rather than taking the chance quickly. He’s new to the team and finding his place. They both seem a little hesitant at times when taking a shot, but with every win so important now, its understandable that they are a bit nervous. The team looked great going forward.

Either way its nice to have some options in the midfield.

  13. KCGooner Says:

Dennis is going to retire of course, but I thought his touches on the ball were good. I just enjoy watching him play. He didnt get much time on the field and wasnt able to do much.

  14. DannyT Says:

Samuel’s right - Arsenal are Southern Softies.

If we played Fulham next week, we’d win 4-0 again, and if we played away to Blackburn the week after we’d lose 1-0 again.

That’s why we have a good chance of beating Real Madrid this week, but after that - forget it. Who else left in the competition is going to give us such time on the ball?

This game on Wednesday will be such a tactical battle - because the pitch is smaller Real will be able to press easier and they can play their pretty passes just as effectively as Arsenal. The pitch will be a leveller in my opinion.

  15. stag133 Says:

The fact is, we are much better at home.
We don’t have many remaining road matches… with United being the toughest of them.
If we can win a few on the road in the league, we will do well at home.
We have a chance… we just don’t control our own destiny yet. We need the Totts to slip up. If they drew today… that would have been big. We need them to drop points.
