Never did I expect to see these words emanate from my keyboard……….”Watch out for Pompey!” All right, maybe that is a bit strong but you must respect their change in attitude and change in results. Pompey come off a true spanking of West Ham, 4-2, and now take their two match winning streak to the Gunners.
Two match winning streak may seem funny but when you consider that they received just one point in the nine matches proceding the Gunners 4-0 win, six points is monstrous. Now Pompey sit just three points from survival, though they need a nine goal differential in this match to shore it up.
Pompey’s home record does give them some advantage. It’s not really an advantage to note but they have half as many losses at home than on the road. This factor may indicate the Pompey plan as they work to get one precious point here and get more in the final 7 matches.
Portsmouth are lacking and all together weak in nearly every position. Lua Lua has tried but gets no real service. Mendes and Todorov have moved the midfield some but don’t possess the strength needed in the Premiership. The defense is so bad that they are nearly giving away 2 goals a game. All these factors spell a win for the Gunners.
