Chicago Update II From Staring Into The Abyss to Reaching For Unknown Glory
Mar 28

Cesc and Henry with the goals on an historic night that sees Juve left with nine men at the final whistle.

I’ve listened to the haters who said Madrid were going to kill the Arsenal. I’ve heard the doubters moan about Senderos and Flamini. I’ve heard the critics whine about Gilberto. Enough. If you can’t put that aside now, well, go root for Chelsea, or Spurs.

Juve are top of Serie A and Arsenal just made them look like a bunch of rank amateurs. That’s seven, SEVEN!, Champs League shut outs in a row.

Cesc can’t get it done? Ha! Wenger has lost the plot, ha! Is there any team in Europe you’d want to play less than us right now?

Believe!

New to this site, but i’m a chicagoan so it would be nice to meet everyone.

is it still possible to get a shirt or are they all spoken for?

what does the back say, btw?

  2. jasonmckee Says:

Who would’ve thought it could be this good?

2-0 and looking like there could be more in it… Vieira has been a bit of a non issue from my perspective… AND he won’t be playing the return leg.

That return leg in Turin doesn’t seem quite so bad now…

  3. andrew Says:

And to think we have a huge group of Americans there watching their first ever match from Highbury. I hope we get some good postings from them this week.

  4. andrew Says:

Ok, the full time whistle has blown and Arsenal not only have a 2-0 lead into next week, but two of Juve’s players were given RED CARDS and will be unavailable for next week.

    Wow…what a night.

  5. SachinG Says:

No Vieira, Zebina or Camoranesi next week and 2 goals to the good. WOW !!!!!!!

  6. faresk82 Says:

No Veirra Palying in Italy ! ……
    YAYAYAYA 2-0

    Lets Role on …

  7. Andez Says:

Somebody tell me we are OVERRATE?… Somebody tell me Juve ALLOW US TO PLAY?… Somebody tell me we won because our oppostion were crap?…
Somebody tell me we won because we were LUCKY?…

So what are u going to say now doubters?

While we scored two goals, hat off to our defence. Let’s DO NOT forget how young they are, and 3 of the 4 back 4 are second choices. And we beat a Juve side full of SUPERSTARS!

Another FACT: Henry, Lehmann, Gilberto, Pires asides, 7 out of our 11 starting players are aged 24 or below. Half of the team are age 22 or under. And we beat a side who had lost only 2 games in the past 30, the breakaway Series A leader. We not only beat them, but beat them with style. Regardless of if we can win this big ear cup or not in the end, just IMAGINE how good this currrent set of youngsters will become in 2 or 3 years time?

  8. thesoothsayer Says:

Can’t believe I missed this! I was working through the night here and I thought it was a good chance to catch the game. I didn’t take note of the time since the last few matches were shown at 5am here. I checked Soccernet at around 3 am and saw that the game hadn’t started. Worked another hour, took a one hour+ nap and then 2-0 to Arsenal and 2 minutes on the clock!

Ah.. mixed emotions. Really glad for the win but really, really should have been watching the game.

  9. invinciblehenry Says:

awesome! my only complaint is that dumbass espn2 decided to show the utterly useless benfica v. barcelona match in lieu of this one! oh well, maybe they’ll show some common sense for the return leg.

    believe.
    up the arse!

  10. joshuad Says:

I told you, Stag! 2-0. I don’t care what Juve have done on paper, they don’t match up well against Arsenal. I told you that if Reyes played, it’s game to the Arsenal. You knew I was going to get on here and talk smack. Our team is making it happen, brother.

To top it off, they’ve got three starters ineligible for the next match, including Vieira. Go Gunners.

  11. gerard Says:

It doesn’t get much better than this, does it.
The lads played a fine and aggressive game.

Someone mentioned “Rather live a day as a tiger than a 1,000 as a sheep.” Well they were the tigers and living two days as a Tiger, or even three or four make that experience even more meaningful.

Fantastic performance from everyone on the pitch tonight. Good on the lads - a huge thank you to all of them from this fan.

I already believed but this is a lot like seeing Moses come down the mountain carrying two stone tablets. Seeing is believing!

  12. Andez Says:

And what a great night for Cesc. since the Real Madrid first leg game, this kid really took off. having living in Vieria’s shadow for the large part of season, i really feel happy for the teenager.

i guess now more and more of us start to come to term on WHY AW let go of Paddy.

And the young right back Eboue. I said long ago this kid is for real. Two words: NO FEAR. he just got this fearless attitude. Lauren should really start worrying his place.

  13. NL11 Says:

Surely there has never been a match that I had to follow on a computer ticker before this one that left me jumping out of my seat and running the halls. Everyone figures I’ve gone completely mad.

And I have–for this burgeoning AFC squad.

I can’t claim to have seen how all the pieces were to fit back in January, but that is why Arsene is one of the true grand master of his profession and I hack away on a computer keyboard.

    A job well done lads.

A special congrats to Fabregas who seemed to have a very, very special night–one that perhaps forever cast off that long, tall shadow he used to have to stand in amongst the Highbury middle. And a hearty cheer for the defense, one and all stood firm and kept that valuable clean sheet. They tormented, attacked and frustrated so much that the Juve players chose to bow out of the next game under silly fouls.

    Wonderful!! What a performance!!

Now, on to the second and more of the same lads…COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!

  14. Andez Says:

Definitely Gerrard, i can’t think of any other game this current Arsenal worked harder than tonight. We talked about the whole season how we missed Paddy’s PHYSICAL PRESENCE, but can anyone imagined it was Pires of all ppl nicked the ball away from him with a tackle, and created Cesc’s first goal?!

I always feel - when Titi and Pires are working hard, it means the whole team are fighting. Tonight is one of the games.

Speical mention to Kolo Toure, my choice of the man of the match. He is now officially the new ROCK of Arsenal defence. In fact, i can’t imagine how we cope without him at the back. Without Kolo tonight, we would have conceded two goals.

  15. Andez Says:

Ok ok, let’s don’t get carried away. I can see it coming - before long a party spoiler or two will drop by and remind us “it’s only half time”. yeah right, but like hell do i care right now. I’ll worry about it next week.

  16. Curtisimo Says:

Although Lauren could very well be the steel we need in place of Gilberto. Maybe move Lauren back to midfield?

  17. joshuad Says:

Bobby, from the first minute, looked like old school Bobby, Kolo was a beast, Eboue beat Mutu up and took his lunch money, and Gilberto and Fabregas beat up Vieira and Emerson didn’t even jump in the fight. Did you see that tackle Bobby made on Vieira? Holy Shite!

The thing about playing with 5 in midfield is that teams seldom get the ball forward on the ground and have to go over the top. The same thing that happened against Real Madrid is happening against Juve. Kolo, Senderos, and Lehmann have been phenomenal in claiming those high balls. This was something lovely boys. If you missed this match, what a shame. Find it being replayed. We kicked Juve’s Aaaaasssss.

  18. gerard Says:

That’s not such a bad idea, but I give credit to Gilberto tonight he played a great game and didn’t make any bad passes.

  19. gunner4life Says:

The games outcome certainly makes the trip to Turin a lot easier now. Toure and Eboue - what a pair of defensive studs! Dispossessed Trezeguet and Ibramihovic with anticipation and ease removing Juve’s attacking threat. Can see all the boys ran their hearts out tonight. Has the baton finally changed hands from Vieira to Cesc?! On tonight’s performance, I would have to say yes though I was one who did not believe Vieira can ever be replaced. How ironic for the first goal to be scored by Cesc (Vieira’s successor?) as a result of a great Pires (yep! That Pires!) tackle on Vieira before releasing Henry (captaincy from Vieira) for the killer pass to Cesc. Fiction could not have written the storyline any better.

  20. Andez Says:

i agree. it was Lauren’s natural position anyway (MF)

  21. Curtisimo Says:

They may be called “youth” or Arsene’s “youth policy” but I said for the Madrid ties- these are the ties that make men.

I think after tonight (coupled with Madrid’s matches & this season in general), Cesc is a teenager in age only.

With 3 players out (even though Juve does get Nedved & Del Piero back), barring a defensive collapse in Turin, we’re in prime position to advance.
If we get an early away goal it could very well be the end of Juve before the half… BIG IF, I know.

  22. Andez Says:

“The thing about playing with 5 in midfield is that teams seldom get the ball forward on the ground and have to go over the top. “

joshuad, EXCELLENT OBSERVATION! i never thought of that before, but u are spot on.

  23. Fred Says:

    YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS !!!

it couldn’t be more comprehensive than this !!

and no Vieira, Camoranesi and Zebina in the second leg….
could you all see the Capello’s face in the closing minutes…….that was a look of utter resignation…even Camoranesi’s clapping after being sent off showed that he knew it was over anyway………wooooooooohoooooo !!!

now, lets just finish the job next week. we need just to score one and they’ll need to score FOUR !!! hahaha

i wonder how Vieira feels right now! Fabregas OVERSHADOWED him….

how ironic and hilarious that ’softie’ Pires bolton-tackled ‘hardman’ Vieira (and in the slow-mo you could still see Vieira sitting on the floor complaining) while setting up the goal !!! LOOOL…

  24. Andez Says:

i agree Vieira can never be replaced. but i think the timing of replacing him the past summer now start to make sense. cos he can’t go on forever. if we replace him one or two years later (with Cesc sitting on the bench), it would hurt Cesc’s progress.

  25. irishgunner Says:

    Who wants Vieira back now?

Vindication for Wenger. I thought that this team would be great in a few years and I was prepared to wait. Getting to a semi-final would be further than any other Arsenal team. With a bit of luck they could be great this season.

  26. Andez Says:

curtisimio, i think the most important thing is not the two goals we scored, but the fact we did not concede an AWAY goal.

They say the team who play at home first would have the disadvantage, but i kinda disagree. Think about that, if say Juve pull level 2-2 agg. at the 2nd leg, and the game into overtime, the away goal rule still stand.

in other word Juve will have 90 to 120 minutes’ playing time at the 2nd leg, to defend an away goal from us.

  27. irishgunner Says:

    Why change a winning team?

How can Campbell or Cole get back into the team?

Cole maybe because we need a natural left-sider. Campbell should stay on the sideline!

  28. Fred Says:

I don’t know if i’m going mad or its just the after-glow from the match……..but i think if Vieira was playing for us…and Juve had someone more technical (eg. Fabregas) playing in their CM they might just have beaten us!
    They created NOUGHT !!!

Wenger sold Vieira because of serious CL ambition!

Its funny and ironic that if Vieira was still with us we would probably be comfortably second in the premiership BUT definitely knocked out in the CL.

NOW, let the boys get this over with quickly AND knuckle down for Aston Villa on saturday!

    As for us fans…….its a celebration !!!

  29. USGunner Says:

Eboue has been excellent since returning from the African Nation’s Cup. As solid as Lauren has been for many years, if Eboue keeps this up I don’t know how you can justify pulling him from the side.

  30. USGunner Says:

One more thing, can you imagine what a nightmare it would be trying to defend against the runs of both Eboue and Cole.

  31. uberal Says:

Hi Guys! I’m a brit who has just about calmed down now! Wasnt that awesome! I wrote the (imaginatively titled!) post ‘Juventus Preview’ earlier today and for all those who said away goals would be important…heehee!! Seriously though, great stuff tonight! Please check out http://thearseclub.blogspot.com its my new site that I update regularly. keep up the great work and support here! Hopefully see a few of you on the road trip! Uberal

  32. USGunner Says:

I agree with you whole-heartedly about:

    1. Going crazy for this team.
    2. Wondering how Arsene does it.

Even as one of Wenger’s biggest supporters, the way this team is playing at the moment surpasses all of my most optimistic expectations. First Real, then Liverpool, let’s finish off Juve and take down ManU.

    Go Gunners!

  33. SCJonathan Says:

This win should help convince Henry to stay, even if we do not go on and win the CL.

  34. VaVaVoomTiti Says:

Does anybody know where in Manhattan i can catch a replay of this match tonight?

    Ste

  35. USGunner Says:

I agree. Big night for the players, but huge night for Wenger. This has to feel good for him.

I always thought that Arsene would get his young and talented team to turn around their poor midseason form sooner rather than later, but I could not have imagined that they could be this good this fast. They are flat out dominating knockout stage CL competition. Who knows what will happen if we make it to the semis (how perfect would it be for us to take on Barca), but the way we have taken down RM and played today vs. Juve will be remembered for a long time. See, a few momentus occassions in our last year at Highbury (beating Spurs at home to clinch fourth place will be the icing on the cake).

As an aside, I have to believe that Henry realizes how much this Club has to offer (talent, stadium, management, etc.) and is already planning to resign.

  36. MikeK Says:

Sorry, was sidetracked by the match. I think it should be fine, just let me know what size shirt you need. BTW, it says: “Arsene Wenger’s Red, White & Blue Army”

  37. Denver Says:

That’s 7 clean sheets in a rom in the CL!

What a future we have with this team!

Where are the ‘inspirational’ comments from L-G, Stag and the other ‘Negative Nicks?’

    Wenger knows…

  38. DannyT Says:

Awesome, I’ve never been so happy to be WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Although a few weeks ago I did say we had a chance if Vieira’s head was messed up, and it was.

Juve are frightened of us now. Scared stiff. Nedved will be back and he will give them so much more, but that’s pretty much cancelled out when you take two ball winners like Vieira and Camironese out of the equation.

It could not have gone better tonight and Pires surprised me, who could predict he would out tackle Vieira and help set up a goal for Fabregas, it’s ridiculous - Pires has never won a tackle like that in his life, let alone even TRIED to win a tackle like that.

Barring a disaster, the semi-final beckons.

  39. irishgunner Says:

Did anyone see the bit where Henry showed Vieira the ball and then put the foot down and went past him like he wasn’t there.

To me, it looked like he was saying to him, look what you left behind.

I am now confident that Henry will stay.

  40. Denver Says:

Not that newspaper player ratings are all that meaningful, but you gotta love seeing Cesc get a 10 and Vieira a 5 from Sky Sports:

    http://home.skysports.com/matchratings.asp?fxid=294550&clid=3&cpid=5

  41. stag133 Says:

    UNBELIEVABLE!
Absolutely fantastic performance by the players tonite. All around applause to every one of them. They played their hearts out. GREAT performances from Cesc, Pires, Eboue & Kolo… all superstars… but again, I think every one of them played well and deserve big credit.

First off… its my birthday today! And this is simply all I wanted and requested, a good Arsenal performance. Blown away by our match.
I was at an Italian Cafe’ in Boston’s North End… the Italian district of Boston, filled with Juventus support. I am horse. Can’t speak, from yelling so loud. They watched the match, and it was fully apparent that we deserved the win… by even more than the scoreline.

We beat them at every facet of the game. After a tense beginning, we gained confidence and belief and OUTPLAYED Juventus all night long.
We created good chances and could have won by 3 or 4… but well deserved win, and up 2 goals, having conceded NONE at home, we look amazing.

I give all credit to the followers and believers out there. I “thought” it was possible we could win, but I didn’t view it as likely. Couldn’t believe how SOUNDLY we beat them tonite. We were excellent. I have to say that based on that performance and the matches versus Madrid, I don’t see why we can’t WIN this competition.

I actually believe we can WIN the Champion’s League this year. If we play with that type of belief and determination, ANYTHING is possible.
Impossible is nothing, as the advert says… that exemplifies the Arsenal in the Champion’s League this season.

GREAT MATCH. GREAT EFFORT. GREAT PERFORMANCES all around for our players.

Don’t know if Paddy got a warm reception, as we didn’t get to see that, but I hope so… but he was not a factor on the pitch. NONE of the Juve players were.
The fact that Juventus were so frustrated at the end, says it all. They played like IDIOTS and lost two players for next match on RED CARDS, as well as Vieira on the yellow card. They are in BIG trouble in this 2 match tie.
We just need a solid workmans-like performance to get us into the Semi-Finals of the Champion’s League.

    AMAZING.

  42. SachinG Says:

It was 2 but could have been more. If Henry’s quickly taken free kick had gone in…but as Henry said after the Madrid game ‘let’s not get greedy’. The 3 suspensions for next week are another huge plus point. Del Pierro might not be back either?

Cesc was really un-selfish on two occassions when he opted to pass rather than shoot himself. The ball seemed to be behind Henry but Theirry knows how to put them away, off balance or not..

Toure..when he is back there, one can really breathe a sigh of relief. Inch perfect tackles….Zlatan surely thought he was going to score but Kolo stepped in.

For a change, Arsenal had two really good corners, one from Reyes and one from Henry.

It was great to see Van Persie back. Could hear the crowd chant his name….

So how many people do you think will show up at the Del Alpi next week? more than 237 for sure (their turn-out against a cup game against Sampdoria) and more than the 10,000 that showed up last time Arsenal played in Turin….Will there be more than 35,000?

  43. NL11 Says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY STAG!!

Certainly one you won’t soon forget…cheers.

  44. gunner4life Says:

Yes I saw that nutmeg but I thot it was Cesc who did it.

  45. USGunner Says:

It’s good to read your comments Stag. I know you and many others on this site have expressed worry that the Club had been heading in the wrong direction, and looking at much of our play this year that concern was certainly not unwarranted.

Hopefully, our recent form is evidence that those poor results were a result of growing pains and that the AFC ship is now righting itself. I’d like to believe that Arsene has found the talent and chemistry to put together another team that is capable of playing some incredible football and winning some major silverware.

Here’s to your Birthday, an awesome Gunners victory, and more celebrations throughout the rest of the season!

  46. gerard Says:

I read that they gave away 26,000 tickets for their last CL match and statium still had room?

  47. gerard Says:

I couldn’t think of a sweeter gift on any fans birthday. Happy seems like appropriate word of the day, your birthday - happy birthday!

Jeez, mine is in late June - maybe it will come early this year, like April.

  48. KCGooner Says:

I was jumping for joy at work today when I saw the soccernet. Im a surgeon and I was so overjoyed I couldnt help but smiling and randomly laughing throughout my operations this afternoon. Everyone must think Im crazy, but Im glad that this site exists and there are others who are just as crazy as I am. My 2 regrets are that I wasnt able to go on the trip to highbury and espn 2 has no clue about which games to show. My brother was supposed to get engaged in london this week but moved it to the summer. Im excited he’s getting married, but I’ll be honest Im more excited we won. I can’t wait to here from the guys who were in Highbury. Come on you Reds!!!

  49. gerard Says:

    I feel your joy.

    Kudos to your bro to.

  50. MightyGunners Says:

Magical it was magnificent. I practically woke up my parents with my screaming and yelling. The player that stood out the most for me was Kolo Toure two worldclass defending against Ibrahimovic. Hahahahaha I bet he regrets moving to Ajax over Arsenal now. Cesc was sensational. He totally out played Emerson and Vieira. Reyes was awesome. Everytime he ran forward with the ball the Juve defence started to panic. What can I say about Pires. He actually tackled Vieira perfectly I bet Cannavaro would have been proud of that tackle. Henry a true leader. He is …. Im all out of words to describe how i feel. I reaally really would like to say thank you to the Arsenal team everyone worked their ass off and they truly deserve the result. When Arsenal played Juve it looks like a group of school boys playing against Professional footballers. SWEET! LONG LIVE THE GUNNERS!!!

  51. Curtisimo Says:

Rewatching the highlights on Arsenal.com & Martin Tyler has a great comment after Camoranesi is sent off:

“Juventus’ night is ending in ruin.”

    Indeed, Martin!

  52. SCJonathan Says:

A maybe dumb question. How did everyone see the game? I followed it on Soccernet at work, and taped ESPN 2 but got the Befica game instead. I saw too late that it was on ESPN deportes. ESPN deportes is showing both games tomorrow and the games next week. I did not see that they were replaying the Arsenal-Juventus game.

  53. seagunner Says:

Setanta had it, I think. I watched it at a pub here in Seattle.

Brilliant game - I was so nervous going in.. but all worries about Vieira overshadowing Cesc were quickly abated. I didn’t dare dream that the match would go this well. A spot in the semis is ours to throw away now and in this kind of form we’re fully capable of beating Inter or Villareal… bring it on!

  54. AlamoGunner Says:

has anyone recorded the game on a DVD? I am looking for DVD that will play on US DVD players and TV (NTSC).

  55. NCGunner Says:

    OHMIGOD!!! OHMIGOD!!! OHMIGOD!!! OHMIGOD!!!

I didn’t get to see the game, but ….. OHMIGOD!!!

I actually had to follow it on ESPNSoccerNet … I kept sneaking out of meetings to go to my office to check the score ….

Oh did I mention .. OHMIGOD!!!

I thought this was the worst possible draw for us — I thought Viera and Emerson would boss the game. I thought Ibrahimovich and Trezeguet would out muscle and out maneuver Senderos, I thought the best we could hope for was a scoreless draw.

OHMIGOD!!! I was wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong ….

Bring on Villa and 4th place!!!!!

  56. Ozzy9 Says:

Unbelievable!!! What a Night for Arsenal!!!

Tonight AW’s “SONS” all showed why everyone says Arsene Knows!!!!

Give credit above all to AW please…as for the players 10/10 without exageration.

  57. joshuad Says:

I have it on my hard drive but it’s PAL. I don’t know how to convert it but if you know, just tell me how and I’ll burn you a copy and send it to you tomorrow. You’ve simply got to see what I think is the biggest game of the year for Arsenal.

  58. Andez Says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STAG!! U r a lucky boy! U travelled to Highbury, and withnessing a stylish victory of us over Liverpool. Then on ur birthday, we beat Juventus 2-0! Did u receive any better birthday present than Arsenal FC sent u this year?!

Personally i’d say this victory over Juve is even better than we beat Real Madrid on the road. ‘cos no more excuse, this is a HUGH team we beat. They are many ppl’s favourite for the CL this year. And look at all the big stars they had. And we beat them with half a team of youngsters.

btw, Paddy did get a warm reception at Highbury, before the kick off, the fans were singing his song. We love you Paddy, but it’s time to move on.

One final note: i really hope there will be a testimonal match for Dennis comes the end of the season, and hopefully we will invite Paddy back. He deserves a final chance to say proper farewell to Highbury faithfuls. And i’m sure the fans would love to see off Paddy and Dennis like the way they did to Tony, Dixon and Keown.

  59. Andez Says:

better than mine Gerrard! mine in mid December, when we were still struggling :(

  60. Andez Says:

Danny, i dont know if Paddy’s head was messed up, but i did a bit surprised on Paddy’s rather lack of interest in the game. The moment when Titi drove past him like he’s not there… i mean, a highly motivated Paddy of the past would have never allowed an opponent did that to him in a manner like this.

We’ve debated all season on WHY Paddy left. Yet Martin Tyler’s one comment seems to be the answer of all “Let’s face it, the reason Vieira opted to join Juve was because he could get a 5 years contract there, while Arsenal was unwillingly to do that with their policy over 30-year-old player…”

A simple answer. But seems to be the real reason for me.

  61. joshuad Says:

    Not unbelievable!

    Match-ups.

I’m glad you got to physically see what I did when I said we can win 4-0 and we really could have and should have won by that scoreline. I knew we would create chances but our finishing, as always, would be the determining factor. 2-0 was more likely and proved to be a more accurate anticipation. All of the match-ups worked like I believed they would (except Hleb struggled with their LB). I’m very glad for the lads.

Do you still think I’m nuts! I thought Wenger was when he sold Vieira. In fact, I still do but that’s another story.

  62. joshuad Says:

I think Patrick Vieira left because he was hurt that the club had accepted such a low transfer fee for him without even talking to him. Vieira loved this club and imagine if anyone you loved would seemingly betray you the way Arsenal did.

There were other factors with Juve being a top team, a pay raise, playing with all those big names, and the 5-year deal that made good business sense. In the end, I believe it was the decision to accept such a cheap fee without even talking to him about it first. That’s like the club saying, “We’re not interested in having you in our team anymore. We’re willing to let someone else take you away without a fight”.

If someone you love tells you something like that, it hurts. That love affair is over.

  63. nipuna Says:

Toure was my man of the match. Two blocks of Ibrahmovic were sensational. The clean sheet was absolutely essential.

When was the last time we saw Henry celebrate so passionately after scoring a goal? Not even against Real Madrid. He knew the significance of the second goal. I think he will stay at Arsenal.

I want to applaud Wenger. He kept his faith in the team even during some miserable times. Now it is paying off. I hope he strengthens the team in the summer and makes it even better.

  64. Fred Says:

    ….the excitement is still on………

this victory is SO SIGNIFICANT !!!

    WHY?
    1) it excorsises Vieira?s ghost from highbury….now all the talk abt him would be ended for good.

    2) NOW the kids would have all the confidence….they know they are good !!! This could just be a turning point for us….not for this season but for an era.
If you had asked anybody to name the top 3 clubs in club football, most would definitely put Juve up there……..BUT we outplayed and THRASHED them….they had no answer to our style!

    3) NOW premiereship clubs will begin to FEAR us again..meaning that we could start (again) to win matches before they even begin (like the invincible year)

now bring on Villa (and their c==t of a coach, called O?Leary, who never fails to mouth off against the Arsenal) and lets THRASH them silly……and i am talking 7-0 (or better) scorelines ….

    WE ARE GOING UP !

  65. kelvin Says:

Had to watch the game in cyprus with the Paphos Gooners. Blindingresult.

    For you Sachin

    We’re on our way
    we’re on our way
    We’re going to Paris
    we’re on our way
How we get there, I don’t know
How we get there, I don’t care
All I know is we are on our way.

Just noticed that Theirry Henry has scored against Real Madrid (multiple Euro champs), Liverpool (ex Euro champs) twice and Juventus (Italian giants). Whoever said he is not a big game player. Does it look like he is not committed to the cause just because he hasn’t signed a new contract?

  68. DannyT Says:

Yeah, Vieira’s head was messed up, just like I’d hoped. His head was so messed up that he was outfought by Robert Pires for god sake

Vieira was sold because he was on the wane and Wenger wanted the money. It had a disastrous initial effect, but the team is obviously growing and getting over it.

I don’t believe it has anything to do with the 5 year contract that’s rubbish. Henry is 29 in Auguts? If someone offered him a 5-year deal in the summer but he wanted to stay at Arsenal, would Wenger say he can leave because once he’s over 30 and we can only offer him 1 year at a time? Don’t be daft.

I expected a warm Highbury welcome for Paddy… because he is an Arsenal legend of this era, AND because Arsenal supporters are CLASS. Thats no joke either… very good people who are a family for the most part.

Best birthday present I could have received… it was fantastic to watch. We just need to play tight in Turin and finish the job. For the first time in a while, I am confident we will do so.

Alright great win. I had a blast yesterday. One of the most amazing soccer days.
Lets look at 2 things now:
its only 2-0 up against Juventus. The job is still not done so lets focus. Its very possible for Juvi to score 2 in Italy. It would be a hard job for them, but thats why they are a Giants in the Italian soccer.

Now as far as Villa and scoring 7. Calm down. Dont over expect from Arsenal. I only need 3 points. 1-0 win is more than fine. Lets just take the fourth place and prove that we are a team that has a great future.

Spurs seems to be very very lucky. But if they needed luck to beat WB at home, this means they will need a lot of luck for the rest of their campain.

    Andez,

    Regarding DB10’s testimonial. . .

I was one of the Highbury tours Kenny Sansom did last week and he said he had been told Dennis’ testimonial match will be the first game in Emirates Stadium, not the last game at Highbury.

Here is to hoping Kenny is wrong.

    Cheers!

I wish Miriti’s company had gotten me involved, since they’re using the Arsenal America badge I created. I think I could’ve made something that would’ve screamed ArseAm a little more than this design does.

  76. DannyT Says:

I wouldn’t say Spurs were lucky compared to Arsenal. We too won a game in the last few minutes against Liverpool thanks to Gerrards little gift. Otherwise we’d be 7 pts behind Spurs.

  77. ScottyUS Says:

    Never in doubt. ;)
