Ultimately, as much as we tell ourselves and each other how Arsenal FC are ‘more than a club’ or more than a mere team, it boils down to an entertainment product. That being said, I think you be hard pressed to find a better value for your time/money than Arsenal, and this season was more than worth the price (monetary, psychological or otherwise).
In fact, let’s just say that we all spent 100 “Arsebucks” this season supporting the team. How much value did you get for your hundred?
In the history of the club - more than 100 years - you would have to say that seeing Arsenal play in the Champions League final; play their last game in their historic stadium; and seeing a player become the club’s all-time goal scorer would all rank as highs. WE SAW ALL THREE IN THE SAME SEASON!

Rick, that sums it up for me, too. There were a few debits on the account you didn’t mention (1 win out of 6 against the Prem top three), but the lasting memories will be of the thrills and joy you mentioned. Another big factor were the January signings. I think the club got a psychological boost from the aggressive, positive nature of these. Instrumental in stemming the feeling of decline that was beginning to set in late Fall. That way of thinking seems obsolete now, but it is Wenger’s (and Dein’s) great achievement to make it such; it didn’t happen by itself.

A very interesting perspective and way to look at things Rick… There was a lot of entertainment value, no doubt, no denial in that.
On the flip side, the anguish and torment of watching the team in the first half of the season play like rubbish on the road and lose to the dregs of the league… Minus how much?
Our worst finish in the league in many years?
NO SILVERWARE at all…
Entertaining? Hell yes. Its part of how we play as well… but it was a rollercoaster season indeed. As usual, we alreadyl can’t wait to see this soap opera unfold next year!!

Although I do have to say that music for me eclipses the Arsenal as blasphemous as that may be to some around here although both can produce those moments of magic that make you go “oh my God, that moment of brilliance had to divinely inspired!”

Excellent recap. As far as the negatives - well you need a few in order for some of the events to mean something. You can’t pip 4th on the last day against your rivals without having dropped points somewhere along the way.
And the sad loss in the final followed by the pledge of love from Titi had Hollywood flair to spare. The things he’s been saying, about the game and the team, are the things we’ve all wanted him to say. He’s a true Gooner with an enormous heart.
We climbed out of a despairing place to finish with class. That was PRICELESS…
…even if it wasn’t a banner year at Stag’s Silverware Outlet.

Now that Henry’s definitely on, I can relax a little and wait for the silly season to begin. Frankly, I need a break. The rollercoaster is exciting, sure, but not great for my stomach. And my girl has been so patient and (relatively) understanding of my psychosis…she deserves a break as well.

I got value for my money and in spades!
Dope costs more money and this does the same thing, on a weekly level. Will they get a goal, will they advance, is he staying, can they win, he passes, he shoots, they score…. and a thousand more questions and answers. The draw back is that this hurts more when coming down than dope does! After losing a horrendous match or the like, suddenly the pain comes and your out getting dope to take that pain away. Its a vicious circle sports is.
And I could of been a drunken yobbo in the red army and split some serious skulls, instead I wasted it on poetry and art ~(:about serious skull splitting:)~. Don’t you love cannons?
I love Canada because it’s green and good things grow here.

Here’s the thing - if one can’t see where we’ve grown in exciting leaps and bounds, the emergence of some amazing young talent, and our new form in the CL, then I can see where the silverware issue is the main issue for some. This was a transition year, and it was still good enough to convince Thierry Henry to stay on. We showed courage and prowess in areas we never did in season’s prior, played through a horrible injury crisis, an African Nations Cup, and made men of boys. All while we were saying goodbye to a great old ground, and financing a new one. It was a GREAT year by ANY club’s standards. To bottom line our success by what we’ve won is to miss a fair amount of what is great about this club. And that’s a shame.
Think about the collection of moments. What other club had them like we did this season? In context, whether you can feel it or not, we’ve been spoiled yet again.

Wrong. It’s that same mentality that most people would belittle when a “big, mean” corporation wants to make money.
Chelsea wins silverware now, I certainly don’t want to act & conduct business like them.
They won the EPL & yet still have players wanting to flee each year, Kezman last year, this year Gallas & Drogba, all of which are in their prime & are/were well paid, so there’s something to be said about a club like Arsenal even though we didn’t win any silverware this year.
A disappointing year for us, yes, a bad year? Personally, I think not. I have to agree with Scotty on this one, I think we acoomplished more this year than people (not specifically you, Stag, but I just mean people in general) want to give us credit for.
And as far as perception of how other fans or the media views whether or not we’re a truly elite club- I COULD CARE LESS. B/c if there’s one axiom I live my life by, it’s this- MOST PEOPLE ARE WRONG
