Two goals each by Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor paced Arsenal to a 8-1 win over Schwadorf in today’s pre-season match in Austria. Johann Djourou, Kolo Toure, Nicklas Bendtner, and Alex Hleb also scored for the Gunners.

The following players took part in today’s match. Interesting to note that Theo Walcott was at the match, but did not play.

Manuel Almunia
Mart Poom (came on @ halftime)
Emmanuel Eboue
Armand Traore (came on @ halftime)
Kolo Toure
Joe O?Cearuill (came on in the 60th minute)

I’m not going to go into paragraphs of reasons why I think these solutions work, I’ll simply state what I think are two very good options.

Option #1. Take Jonathan Woodgate on loan from Real Madrid for a season.

If he stays injury free he is an excellent player and would become a huge asset for the Gunners. He would be a natural fit with Toure and would allow Toure the freedom to become a more attacking C.B.

Option #2. Bolton’s Tunisian C.B Jaidi is 30 now and looking to move out of the Reebok.

A 1 - 2 year deal at Arsenal would give the Gunners...

Given our shortfalls in central defense and defensive midfield, I’m perplexed about the season long loans of Kerrea Gilbert and Fabrice Muamba. As I understand it, Gilbert can play both central defense and fullback. He played a useful role during our defensive crisis last season and showed a lot of promise. He’s less experienced than Djourou but seems quicker and more advanced than Joe O?Cearuill. Hence, I can’t understand the shipping out of a guy who could be our current #4 in central defense.

Muamba has been impressive in the friendlies. He’s smaller than...

In a draw that’s sure to make Rick B happy, Arsenal will be travelling to Eastern Europe, as it’s either Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia, or Ekranas of Lithuania that will be the Gunners’ 3rd Qualifying Round opponents.

Dinamo Zagreb are the more likely of the two, as they currently lead Ekranas 4-1 after their first leg match earlier this week.

There has been a lot written about the implications of the new Champions League eligibility rules and the effect on Arsenal. Most of it, including my own contributions has been ill-informed and poorly researched. I have finally got around to looking into it and was surprised at what I found.

Article 15.02 states that “Each Club is responsible for submitting an A list of players and a B list of player, duly signed to its national association for validation and forwarding to UEFA. List A is confined to 25 players but List B is unlimited.” It is most important to consider who...

I was surprised to learn how few friendlies we had planned to get us ready for the coming season.

I am aware of the high level of World Cup activity, however only one player made it to the final and one other was part of the final week.

I think it could be a dangerous tact using the CL qualifiers as friendlies. It will be difficult getting players up to speed as we can’t sub 8 players in the game, only 3. I am sure ALL three will be used in both legs; I can assure you that.

OK, so this is the first time in ages we have had to qualify for the CL, since in the past,...

Hey all:

I have been lucky in finding other football fans, but all root for Liverpool, Chelsea, or (horribly) the Spurs. I am looking for Gunner fans in the Indianapolis area to match the 06/07 season with.

The opportunities for watching matches are numerous in Indy - Fox and Hound is decent, the Brugge is willing to show games, and I have almost convinced the owner of Radio Radio to open up for Premiership matches. Plus, I have the pay-per-view package and am willing to open up my home in case of exhausted options.

Regardless, if you wanna watch some matches with other...

Loyalty in football these days is as rare as rain in the Sahara desert. It all money … just money. Its all about “Who will pay me how much for how long??”. All the other rubbish about the players not getting along with another player or falling out with the coach is just made up by the player’s agent most of the time to make sure that the player gets out of the club and the agent gets paid more. Lets look at a couple of cases shall we…

The first case that always springs to mind is that of a certain Luiz Ronaldo of Inter Milan and Real Madrid fame. He crocked...

Greatness should be judged at the highest level possible. There are players with great ability who aren?t necessarily great players. If a player doesn?t leave his mark, then what makes him great? Greatness requires a legacy, an end product. A great player is one who consistently does the routine and the difficult better than his peers over a long period. A great player is one who does these things at the highest level and wins in the process. I cringe when I hear the word used over and over like it?s OK to just throw it around like a basketball. No, that won?t do. I hear announcers claim a great...
