Two goals each by Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor paced Arsenal to a 8-1 win over Schwadorf in today’s pre-season match in Austria. Johann Djourou, Kolo Toure, Nicklas Bendtner, and Alex Hleb also scored for the Gunners.
The following players took part in today’s match. Interesting to note that Theo Walcott was at the match, but did not play.

Agree, nice to see RVP sharp at the beginning of the pre-season…He had some bright spots at the World Cup…I really believe when confident and in form he can be a deadly player…

Why didn’t AW start Theo ? He was not in the lineup ..he is old enough compared to the other kids.
Sometimes I dont understand AW. … Why would u pay 12 million pounds for someone u will never play. We can buy an already estabelshed player for this price ….

I am glad we had some fun out there today and trounced this team… but folks, they are a DIVISION 3 Austrian team.
Its sort of expected that we should BURY them.
The next pre-season match should be a bit more competitive. Who knows, Theo Walcott might actually play a minute of pre-season football in that one.

what formation did we play? was it 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 ? cos it seemed to me like reyes and RvP were supporting ade, while flamini and gilberto supported fabregas…..for me this is a great way!
or was it fabregas on the right wing?

I am watching the Arsenal TV replay on GolTV in the states right now (DirecTV channel 614). They have been broadcasting tape delays of several EPL preseason matches.
I realize it is preseason and he is one of the experienced players, but was that really Cygan with the captain’s armband?

“Arsenal have taken Ghana World Cup star Shilla Illiasu on trial.
The 23-year-old featured in all four of The Black Stars’ games at the finals in Germany - starting the last three of them.
The central defender shone in Germany and his performances caught the attention of Arsene Wenger and his scouts.
Illiasu’s club Kumasi Asante Kotoko have confirmed that Illiasu is on his way to London to link-up with The Gunners.
Arsenal have excellent contacts in Africa and now they have agreed a deal with Kotoko - which sees Illiasu arriving for a trial spell.
The highly-rated stopper will get the chance over the next few days to try and convince Wenger that he is worthy of a move to The Premiership.
Reports from Africa suggest Kotoko would allow Illiasu to leave for around $1 million (?500,000).”
I was hoping for some established name, not some unknown Ghana player, but hey, with Wenger you never know, maybe he can make Illasu a worldclass centre back and he will lead our back line in the next decade

Read on the net that Walcott caught a virus and Wenger did not want to risk him. Wenger also said that the starting 11 against Schwadorf will very likely start against Zagreb. Shud make for an interesting away game.

Well at least he played center back at the highest level for Ghana in the recent World Cup. Shud say something about his ability. In any case he is on trial. Could turn out to be another Eboue. Let see how he fares against EPL strikers.

I would really like to see Walcott play soon. I want to know that we didn’t pay so much money for a player to sit on the bench and play in the reserves.
I hope RvP can continue the good pre-season form into the main season. He has always done well against weaker teams. It’s time to step up and perform against the big boys and in big games.
I think it’s not entirely true to say that AW doesn’t go for big names. Last season, he went for Baptista and Robinho. In my mind, Baptista was a mistake as the player had no intentions of coming to Arsenal.
This year, he signed Rosicky and tried for Davies. He would have bid 6M, but WBA raised the stakes and held out for 10M. Wenger might have learnt from his previous mistake of spending 17M on Reyes and is now unwilling to pay over the market on anyone. He did spend 5M (rising to 12M) on Walcott, but the jury is still out on him. So Wenger may have turned to Illiasu.

Wenger has confirmed that Henry and Lehmann will miss next week’s CL qualifier. We’ll depend on Ade and RvP for goals. Reyes’ mind is a little messed up, so I don’t expect him to do well. Toure + Cygan could start at the back with Hoyte as left back. It will be a nice preview to the new season.

I perfer Kolo + Jourou at the back. Also when Cole is so close to exit I want to name one player that can be usefull if we can sign him.His name is Matthew Taylor from Portsmouth. He is attacking wing-back solid at the back and very good going forward. Also he is English.

is he significantly better than our english man hoyte? if not then there is no point buying him - especially with clichy and traore still in on the leftback spot. or can he play central defence as well?
yeah, toure and djorou should be able to hold the CD in this first CL qualifier.

He can’t play central defense, but Cole and Clichy can’t play either. Traore is still young and Clichy is still injured so we need another left back if Cole leaves. And yes, he is better than Hoyte. Hoyte is right-footed and is good defensively, but in our system our full-backs must be good going forward and Taylor is one of the players that can do the job. He was the best Portsmouth player last season along with Lua Lua so I think he would be a good aquisition.

the point is that the long term first choice is now clichy…. so anyone coming in is contesting iwth traore and hoyte.
also hoyte being right footed is not really an issue….flamini is right footed as well and zambrotta started out as a right winger….so that should not really hinder him….
i think Hoyte, Traore, Flamini and Cygan can back up Clichy when necessary.
we should concentrate on the central defence …. personally i won’t mind just getting the overpriced Davies - yeah, 10 million is much but such is the market…

I would love to see Clichy as our first choice left-back, but the truth is that he is injury prone. Also I said that with Hoyte as a left-back our attacking style of play will be lost and we all know that Henry likes to attack from that side and complement with both the left winger and the left-back. With Hoyte out there our left side will be weaker offensively. Zambrotta started as a winger, but left not right and he is playing his whole life on the left flank. Hoyte is a RIGHT-BACK and it would be hard for him to play well on the left side. So we need a replacment for Cole, if he leaves.
Agree on Davies though.

nope, zambrotta started as a rightwinger, i know becos i used to follow serie a seriously then….and i remember in those days zambrotta was a right winger for bari….those were the days when bari had cassano….
oh yeah and he also played mainly as RB for italy in this WC with grosso on the left.
also it really isnt an issue at all: gallas is right footed yet is an immense LB, even Lahm is rightfooted and both are great going forward as well.
after spending the whole of last season as LB, hoyte should do….

Hoyte is limited with attacking skills, weather he plays on the right or the left. He will never attack like Eboue, Gilbert, Cole and Clichy. Gallas is playing well as a left back only because Chelsea are defensivly oriented. He is not good going forward either. Lahm and Zambrotta are technically very good and that give them abillity to go forward so easily.
