Arsenal America are proud to announce that Jens Lehmann has been selected as the recipient of the 2005-06 Arsenal America Player Of The Year Award.
Jens’ performances last season were his best ever in an Arsenal shirt. Along with the defense, he kept a record 10 clean sheets in European competition, including a gut-check penalty stop in Villarreal which propelled the Gunners to their first ever Champions League Final in Paris.
The Arsenal America Vase will be presented to Jens on a date to be determined.
Congratulations Jens! From the looks of things early this season, you’re keeping up right where you left off.
Finally tally after the jump…

Thoroughly deserved!!!
Judging by the ManU game, his top form continues. Long may it be so.

Jens has come a long way. I can still remember the days when he’s deemed not good enough.
Lehmann to me is = Mr. Determination. Few goalkeepers in my memory could repalce his national team’s long time No. 1 at the age of 35, particular when the opposite number is not that much older than him. And the fact that his best performance for Arsenal came after he being dropped (and never look back since regained his starting place) say a lot of his character.
Also wanna add: the save his made against United in the dying minutes from Soljaker’s strike I rate it as the Second Best Arsenal Goalkeeper Save behind David Seaman’s save in the FA Cup semi final against Sheff Utd a few years ago. When Soljaker stroke the ball, i thought they had equalized… when i saw the ball out of touchline i thought how lucky we were Solkjaer didn’t hit the target…. until i saw from the replay it was in fact saved by Lehmann, quite unbelievable! just look at Soljaker’s expression, he can’t believe it himself!

Exactly. Saves are rated by their “unbelievableness” factor. The ManU one is right up there with Seaman’s.

Well deserving award! No gooner will soon forget his save from Riquelme's PK which preserved victory when it looked like extra time when we weren't playing well.
BTW I hate to be an arse but Aluminum was goalkeeper during the last three shutouts of the group stage. But Jens started the clean sheet run and finished it.

I would like to know when was the last time Henry did not win this award.

Maybe the roadtrip lot in November could give him the gong. Or I could in December

That was my thinking as well. However, AFC have a certain day on which the presentations are made, and they tend to rotate the supporters clubs who are allowed to present in person. Either way, Jens will get the vase, and at the very least we’ll get a picture of him holding it.

Well done indeed Jens.
He is one player who has ‘put up his hand’ since Arsene started disassembling Arsenal MkII (and I’m not referring to claiming for off-side!!)
As has already been pointed out his good form and determination has continued this season. And aren’t we all so very thankful. The facial save and one-hander against ManU will be highlights of the season for me.
Hope his bod can hold out for a while….must get harder to throw yourself around….but he’s not showing Seaman-like self-protection tendancies yet.

Well done Jens!
Deserves it by the mile… From being called Shite and Lemon or something to top 2 keepers of the planet.
