I can’t believe Henry is not even shorlisted in the World Player of the Year Award!

To top it off, they’ve got Zidane in the final 3!

Are you kidding me?

What exactly did Zidane do last season? His World Cup performance was average at best. He won the Golden Ball simply because every other major star was rubbish during the World Cup.

No doubt we can’t call Henry a big game player. I guess that’s why he’s lost it year, after year, after year. However, does the judging panel rate CONSISTENCY at all?

Talking about playing well year in, year out, throughout the course of an ENTIRE season, nobody has been more consistent than Titi.

It appears to me those judges watched only the World Cup.

Surely people know by now that the award is meaningless. No player will ever win it if they haven’t at the very least won their Domestic League, and even then it will usually be overlooked in favour of a player who has a World Cup, Euro Championship or Champions League medal. That’s the criteria unfortunately, and it has been for some time.

in my opinion he doesnt deserve it this year at least. in previous years yes, but this year no.

the 3 main awards, FIFPRO, Euro and world footballers of the year are decided by fellow players, journalists and coaches respectively. and if none of these groups deems it fit to crown him, then i guess we just have to admit that he isnt rated that highly. the main reason is probably his failure to DECIDE big games.

anyways, i dont really give a flying f-ck about awards….i just want him to get seriously angry and tear our next few opponents a new a-hole!

I was not surprized at that omission. Henry will never win this award because it is a popularity contest. Most judges vote for players who can flick the ball, juggle and do some pony tricks. Even if Henry wins everything with Arsenal, he won’t win this. He does not do enough tricks for people’s pleasures, although if one looks at the goals he scores, they are pure class.

But when was the last time a player from the EPL won this thing? Maybe the judges need to get access to watch EPL games. Football is not only played in La Liga and Serie A.

actually thinking of it, an EPL player has never won the world footballer award.

and only owen has won the euro awards - at least since the premiership started.

Err, what tricks does Cannavaro do?

  6. SachinG Says:

he makes the ball go away :)

When a player with a ball comes towards him, Cannavaro works his magic and the ball goes away with the player looking around him to see where the ball went…

I have to admit Cannavaro getting short-listed was a nice change but if he were playing in the EPL, would he get nominated?

Zidane and Ronaldinho are shoe-ins for these awards. Normally, Shevchenko is up there as well even though he does no tricks but now he is playing in the EPL.

There’s no surprise here. Henry is being subdued by being the captain and being made a lone striker, so he’s expected to do the job of two strikers as well as lead the team. No f-ing way that’s going to work! It’s like I’ve said since day one, teams with strikers as captains never win anything.

Everyone knows Henry’s a talented player but when he isn’t allowed to focus on doing his thing because he’s got to worry about what the rest of the team is doing and his help is taken away from him, you can’t expect much.

Moving to a 4-5-1 was a necessary evil to cope with the departure of Vieira. We’re not being overrun in midfield anymore but we’re not “Scoring, Scoring Arsenal” anymore.

It’s like going from having a sharp, two-edged sword to having a dull, single-edge sword. This Arsenal sword is not as effective because we only have one edge and that one edge can’t even focus on being sharp because it has to worry about the rest of the team. Until this changes, we’ll continue to struggle and lose.
